That's correct. And I didn't notice Sven's bike shop while walking but we definitely have a lot of Scandinavians. Around Livingston, we have a lot of people with Norwegian backgrounds. My wife's family is from Sweden and we would love to get back to that area once travel is safe again. Cheers. -H

I really enjoyed this City Walk. My family and I just took a short vacation, and we recently visited Anaconda and Butte Montana. FYI, I have friends that live there and when I was younger, I used to visit them and we would walk around Anaconda,to pass the time. It's truly amazing how Anaconda has not really changed in 40+ years (And that is not to say it's a bad thing). About 40-ish yrs ago, the MARCUS DALY HOTEL was beautiful. This was before they tore down the upper floors. Also, the little homes around Anaconda, (which were originally built by the Miners who worked at the Smelter) look about the same now,and seem to have been well preserved. I have two friends who lived in those little Miners' Homes when they grew up. Those homes were/are tiny, but the insides are compact and logically arranged. Most of those tiny Miners' Homes have about 2 bedrooms and one bathroom and a tiny kitchen plus a small living room, with storage above. Those Miners' Homes are now Historical landmarks and are all protected, so they can't be torn down. So glad about that. And as you noticed, those little homes are still there,all lined up in a row, all very closely built, and all are painted in these amazing colors. Anyhow, TXs for sharing this walk around Anaconda.

Not sure how this popped up on my news feed but I live and work in anaconda. I'm the maintenance director for anaconda deer lodge County. I take care of the courthouse and the hearst free library. If your ever back up this way I can take you up into the towers of the courthouse and the tunnels below it that connect to the old jail. The hearst free library and its story is impressive as well.

Another great walk Henry. Usually spend all Sunday walking with local group here in Chepstow Wales. Weather doesn't usually put us off, but a deluge of rain today cancelled that! So it was great to be able jump on the treadmill and explore Anaconda with beautiful Blue skies and great view of the mountains really enjoyed it! Love small towns in the US, much more than the big cities really. Loved all the old buildings and individual architecture. Just hope it doesn't get to spoilt with the increase in incomers you've mentioned before. Re your question on sponsorship I personally see no problem at all with that if it helps the channel !

Wow it's been years since I last saw Anaconda me and my daughter went there and spent almost 2 weeks with my boyfriend visiting his family, the Flynns which was in the early 80's. That's the 1st time I had been there but not the last.
Thank you for adding that caveat. If I remember correctly I did two separate walks in Anaconda. My ability to show everything is limited by things such as time, energy, battery power, card space, etc. That means I often have to leave large parts of a place un shown. If I make it back to Anaconda, I will try to show in the smokestack more closely. - H
"There's no wind." That's because it's early in the day lol. Just wait till the afternoons. Sometimes the wind just rips down the valley. Florence MT (where I spent most of my young years) and Anaconda MT (High School) are my home towns. I love them both, and I'm looking forward to moving back in a few months. Best restaurant - Barclay II. You HAVE to have their tenderlion. Best pork chop sandwich - Peppermint Patties. Best pasty - Wind's. Best burger - Paul Bunyans (not sure if they're still there). Washoe Theater is a beautiful old theater. Washoe Park is BEAUTIFUL. A lot of those old houses were actually (definitely the shotgun houses) were put up by the Anaconda Company to house the workers & families.
I am soon relocating to Montana, is Anaconda a great place to live? I hear Butte is not so great? I am looking for a small town that’s not so busy with traffic or people. I was looking in Helena but it seems busy there. Cheers
Anaconda is a cute little town for sure, in a great location. You might look at other areas though, as Anaconda does have a history as a superfund site. Wyoming and Eastern Washington have some great towns too. -H

Yep, Pay is not good, jobs can be hard to find though that is not the case right now, and housing costs have gotten astronomical. The weather is just something you deal with. -H

I passed through Anaconda in the early seventies on a Greyhound bus and I remember it as a dirty little town with a layer of reddish-colored dust on just about everything. The bus driver warned us about it just before we pulled into the station.

Seeing lots of sidewalks ... Maybe try turning the camera towards the buildings you are walking by, too many shots of the street, the intersections and the sidewalks ... Love Anaconda, grandpa got here at the turn of the century, 11 kids in a 900 sq ft house on Oak Street, the mine darn near killed them all, or was it the nightly stops at the bars on Main st on the way home?
It's a slower town for sure. But they seem to be making a lot of efforts to revitalize. The area is beautiful. Must have been so different back in the day. -H
The smelter smoke stack is the tallest free standing brick stack at 500 feet. Very contaminated. I worked on the Super Fund Clean-up of the area. The stack was designated a Historic place and not torn down as was the smelter. Anaconda is 26 miles from Butte and 105 miles from Missoula.
Marcus Daily is a copper king and a hotel at park and main (1888-1971) smelter because that there used to be the world's largest. East end of town on the hill .
West end of town and out that way is a lot greener than the east , the smoke from the smoke stack outset the land and vegetation out that way . 2 completely different worlds , dead and desert like (east) to green and beautiful (west) .

Marcus Daily is a copper king and a hotel at park and main (1888-1971) smelter because that there used to be the world's largest. East end of town on the hill .

West end of town and out that way is a lot greener than the east , the smoke from the smoke stack outset the land and vegetation out that way . 2 completely different worlds , dead and desert like (east) to green and beautiful (west) .
