I have a paramount version in my gym. Used to be hidden away with butt blaster in ladies locker room. This is now my favorite machine for Glutes and quads. No one else uses it and I’m almost hesitant to explain how much it’s helped grind out the reps versus back squat. Thank you Eugene. You understand biomechanics it’s educational and helpful in getting results.
Hey Eugene, many thanks for the breadth of useful knowledge along with your humble approach when it comes to teaching. Typically I like to switch things up between the vsquat machine/hackpress vs. Regular barbell squatting depending on whether I feel like training more towards hypertrophy or strength that specific leg day. I've been seeing amazing results doing the old school barbell squat with an emphasis on a 5 second eccentric, pause at the bottom, powering back up without locking your knees... it works great for me. But like you said in a different video the way these machine squats promote time under tension is extremely helpful . I will be giving it a try with resistance bands next leg day. Thanks again!!
Amazing video! I remember your answer to this question: building strength and muscle is functional in itself. But can you make a video discussing why so many coaches debate which exercises and equipment are “functional” and your opinion on the topic?
this machine is definitely on my wishlist, was contemplating a classic leg press but this one seems easily superior to the 45 degree & the vertical leg press & hack squat. mountaindog very much likes this machine as well. this machine plus a leg curl and bulgarian split squat or lunges are all i need for legs. well explained btw, love the content.
If you hate squats, give this a try seriously. My hip and ankle mobility is shockingly bad and i've never been close to ATG squatting. This just feels so safe in the hole (lol) and really gave me a perfect squat position to stretch the quads, better than anything else hands down.
I used to stick to squats and deadlifts (with leg curls and extensions as complementaries) but since i have a hip-pinch of some sort that unables me to squat, i switched on the hack squat machine. Really tough machine but it's amazing how far you can push and grind for the last rep on these machines !
Same! Developed a hip pinch on my right side, and it's plagued my squats for about a year or so. Fortunately I've switched gyms and have access to a hack squat machine. Working on those gains!
Absolutely love your content Eugene, love your no bs approach, I use a mix of machines and bars with my clients and myself, having access to a pendulum squat would be great but don't have one of those bad boys, i use alot of banded exercises even on heels elevated Goblet Squats and on leg press, they alter strenght curve greatly and add a third demension to resistance training for clients. The Atlantis machines are amazing, you worked hard to having those as your weapons so fair play to you man!

Keep in mind, the Five stars are based on my needs for this item th-cam.com/users/postUgkxUHHotQRjIQnfuxEeVotlkHVYWH0DXZoS When I first bought the bike I was going to return it immediately. After trying it out for several days/weeks I came to realize it is actually perfect for WHY I bought it.This is not a workout, the resistance is, eh, it makes a bit of noise, not loud, and it isn’t very stable even with the mat. The mat certainly keeps the bike from sliding but nothing keeps the mat from sliding (if that makes any sense, lol). Mine is place on my hard wood floor. Maybe it would be better with a rug underneath??I sit for long hours for work and wanted something to keep my legs moving. This bike does exactly that! For the price it is amazing, it is compact, easy to use, light weight, keeps track of time, calories etc (not sure how accurate it is) but good little product. I am happy with it.
Thanks ET!! That facial expression is very recognisable, almost as if a holistic type of shock has taken place. It's always visible in the eyes, lol. As far as using equipment, I like it all but in slow rep cadans (1-6-pause) to be conscious of the amount of tension from my own ability to contract rather then letting the weight dictate my movement and mentally I feel more protected.
@@coacheugeneteo hahaha you had me before mate! I left an inappropriate comment on the first vid you dropped in the return but I changed it cuz' I didn't think you or others would get the joke behind it lol
That’s an awesome machine, my college gym use to have something similar 5-6 years ago. Machines are hit and miss for me due to the leverages of my body. I cannot use 90% of squat machines since they place all the pressure on my knees and lower spine no matter what form I use. Free weight movements feel effortless though!
You should make a video showing the bands on the other machines. I feel like not many will have access to this machine. I have 2 gym memberships and have been to many more and never have I seen one of these
I go to a powerlifting gym that basically has only barbells, a pullup/dip station and some heavy dumbells. It's actually a blessing sometimes to have limited equipment as it forces you to become stronger on basic lifts or you won't progress.
Nice video, I would like to try such a machine. Anyway, I am curious about the safety: what happens if, when training to failure, I realize halfway up that I can't finish that rep? Is there any "safety end" or will I end up crushing towards my feet arching my back in a very dangerous way? Thank you.
I do pendulum squats on an Arsenal brand machine. I never could get decent technique and depth with the barbell. I believe the pendulum is safe because the angle of the plate and the arch in the movement actually punches the lower back against the support.
Done with back squats, my ass is like Jlo. Hacks, front squats, and maybe some sissy squats. Mate the pendulum machine is very rare. I’ve done some trx-like pendulum bodyweight stuff, felt great. I’d love to try one! Great stuff, have a great day! 👍
It's important I think to differentiate the pendulum squat from V-Squat type machines - they are superficially similar but usually very different and infact vastly inferior in almost all cases. Some machines have optimised for the reverse position, & these can be decent - but any multi-joint exercise machine with an arc has the possibility of being hit and miss, even the pendulum; your height, femur length, & leg:torso ratio can all be factors in squat machines.
Great explanation. However; does the side that you load the plates on change the strength curve and/or the constant resistance through the range of motion? I.e the eccentric and concentric portion of the movement.
Hi Eugene, glad you made a video about this one, I really enjoy your content! I am finally in a gym with a pendulum squat machine and it seems to work fine but it seemsI am not as strong as I thought, I do it without weights at the moment full ass to grass tough. Hopefully I will be able to load some plates on it one day :D. My question is does the counter weight help a lot with that or could I add some counterweight at the beginning to warm up without adding any weight on my shoulders or does it mess up anything? The trainer said I should always use half the counterweight of theweight on my shoulders.
For me personally as a Powerlifter, when I squat low bar I never go higher than 6 reps and with the high bar squat, I never go higher than 8 reps. I always had better results with using a high bar squat as it places more emphasis on the quads rather than the hips and glutes when it comes to the low bar squat, however, the best mass builder I ever used to develop my quads were the hack squat which is similar to the pendulum squat, bringing your feet further down the platform to incorporate more quads as the higher the foot placement the more glute activation you receive, and walking lunges. I do these with higher reps, so I would pick a weight where I fail at 10-12 reps then rest pause until I reach a total of 20 reps 😉
Binging on your channel a bit bro lol. I'd love to use this machine, but my gym certainly doesn't have it. They don't even have a proper hack squat. In fact, my gym only has 2 squat racks, and just 2 spots to deadlift. But, we make it work. Right now I'm in my garage gym anyway due to the worldwide panic of coronavirus, so my space is even more limited there for specialty machines.
