    If you can find it the material called Zorb is GREAT as it was developed for absorbancy... Diapers, pads...any thing requiring the retention of fluids. I got mine at Michaels !! Best I've found.

      Thanks! Do you know if Zorb is for the absorant layer onlybor is it used againstvthe skin? Also, what weight of flannel would be best to use?

    • @karenhogue8443
      @karenhogue8443 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@carlahabeck4051 I believe Zorb is meant to be sandwiched between other fabrics.
      I like a thicker flannel since they tend to wear longer but any flannel would work.

    I'm so happy that you made this now, since we are having a shortage. But also, we put together a operation shoebox for Children. I usually choose a teen girl. These are so expensive to buy, but making them would be easy and cheaper!!

    Hi Jeni. I was introduced to cloth pads when I was in my late 30's. I had enough made to last me through my cycle and they were made from flannelette with bamboo inners and the snap. I had mine made for extra heavy flow for all of them. Now with the 24 pads came a velvet drawstring pouch that was lined in vinyl to put your used ones in if you were at work or out and about. I used a small bucket with a lid in my toilet with water and napisan as the soaker. I made them for both my girls as they came of age and now I am 65 years old and have reached official cronedom. Both my girls are married with of age girls themselves both the girls are 13. I have to sew new kits for both the girls as they are starting out right as well. They never knew anything else as their mum used them too. Best decision I ever made. I had them made in maroon, black and leopard print (my Fav) lol. It may be extra work but so worth it in my opinion and having both daughters asking me to make my granddaughters kits for them speaks for itself. Michelle

    I appreciate this video! We had a presentation from some missionaries to Kenya tonight at church. They said one of the most requested items recently are feminine products for the women. I want to learn to make these to donate to them and include in the age-appropriate *Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child* gift boxes at Christmas! Thank you for passing on your knowledge! I actually have a brand-new Baby Lock sewing machine that I hope to learn how to use from some talented ladies at church…I pray God helps me out on that one! 🙏✝️🎄🥰

    Very cool that this kind of resources for patterns and specialty fabrics is available to make these now. I'm past that season of life but I know there are charities that look for donations of these pads. Seems like it would be a great way to use up flannel scraps. Is your machine a Juki? A quilting machine sounds like a dream to me...fast and so useful! Thanks for the sewing tutorial, Jeni!

    My daughter starred sewing all of her own personal feminine products about 10 years ago. Diapers with covers, wipes and other items. Last year I purchased enough bamboo fleece to make all the personal wipes in exchange for toilet tissue. However, old tee-shirt, towels and clothing or sheets would also work. A small pail or trash can with a mix of bleach water or vinegar or peroxide works for soaking used cloths. We are a very wasteful nation.

      Good for her! My biggest frustration is having a wonderful daughter who decided she's just too busy to use resuables...We both sew...she works as a teacher though, and just didn't want the fuss of more to wash...one day, I hope to convince her.

    Thank you for this.
    I was thinking of making these, but in the more old, very old fashioned patters that the hospitals still use with the 'peri-pads' that are really long in the front and back, and just get pretty garter belts to clip, snap, or button hold them into place in the front and back.
    I like yours with the idea of wings and snaps to hold into place.
    Thank you

    I made some of those for missionaries to take to Haiti. It was something they asked for .I’m also at the age where bladder leaks sometimes happen when I sneeze of bend 🙄. Those would be good for extra protection when away from home. I usually take some kind of disposable feminine pad just in case .

    I love this! Although I'm no longer in this season of life (woohoo) my daughter is and unfortunately she has a long season ahead of her lol. I stock up for about 4-6 months and it can sneak up on me that I need to refill her items😓 out of sight out of mind. I think she tends to 'over use them' and goes through them quicker too. But these will be materials I can keep on hand in my sewing room just in case.

    I think this is definitely a good thing for people to have just in case.
    For ease of washing and drying I like a pad with separate inserts or a pad that can hold a booster when snapped in place like those from Glad Rags. I bought a couple of them years ago (they are pretty pricey for a plain flannel pad IMO) and traced them to made a bunch myself.
    Last week I found a tutorial for an H shaped pad that has no fasteners that I'll be trying soon.

    • @bohemiangypsy99
      @bohemiangypsy99 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Karen you may consider them pricey and they are but over your cycle years how much would you spend on purchased throw away pads which hurt the environment? I did the costing for me in Australia and I saved so much money especially when I made them myself for my girls. So much money saved they are both in their 30's now and still use them only they have updated them of course with me making them lol. Michelle

      @@bohemiangypsy99 Oh they are most definitely cost effective over disposables! But if I didn't sew I would have a very hard time buying plain flannel pads priced at $20-$25 each. Making your own is definitely the way to go.

      @@karenhogue8443 When I started using them years ago they were $14.95 each so even 30 years ago they were expensive. I bought my cycle kit, or mine were called moontime kit and it cost me a few hundred dollars but totally worth it. They were much cheaper to make when I made my daughters though lol.
