    When I get to view a presenter (On TH-cam or otherwise) in a more candid setting, I truly appreciate it because it allows me to gather a plethora of knowledge. The observation of the human animal is a fascination of mine, I suppose. These videos are wonderful, Leo!

    😍 Leo, your t-shirt is the BEST! I am so stoked for you, trying out a new style... this was epic! Looks like you guys had not only amazing weather but a really awesome time! So much biodiversity, especially all those ants! Although, the slow worm pooing on you 😂 Thank you so much for answering my questions 😊 While the 10th Doctor was no surprise, your answer about the future of the channel was so raw and genuine... YOU ROCK! Keep bringing that passion and enthusiasm to your work 💚💚💚

    5:12 that’s always one of my favourite things to do in the garden. Just flip over slabs and rocks and look at all the ants scurrying away with their larvae. I actually purposely put out old bits of brick or slabs to provide nesting areas for ants and other insects

    The frog population here in south Wales has been declining in recent years. I haven't seen a frog in 2 years now when they used to be plentiful :( we really need more people like you who care about these amazing creatures.

    • @NaturalWorldFacts
      @NaturalWorldFacts  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Aw I’m sorry to hear that, that’s terrible! Wales seems like it ought to be the perfect environment for frogs, do you know what caused the decline? It’s a shame, Wales always was known as the UK’s best spot for reptiles and amphibians.

      @@NaturalWorldFacts it's been raining a lot less, most of the ponds that they lay eggs in dry out before they can exit the water and they end up suffocating. This is usually not as much as a problem because a few ponds dont dry out but now they are heavily polluted. Around here they've also been cutting down trees, bushes and ferns for no clear reason. Its absolutely recked the natural habitats for these animals :/ at some point they dug out a pond which was one of the only places newts came to mate and then just left it. It's an absolute shambles and it's honestly so heartbreaking

    • @NaturalWorldFacts
      @NaturalWorldFacts  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That really is awful. I hope something changes, from the sounds of it the devastation is ruthless and unstoppable. Are there any charities you know of that are working to counter this? If I ever get the chance to visit Wales I could make a video to raise awareness about this issue, I just wish there’s more we can do?

    • @supercat9119
      @supercat9119 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@NaturalWorldFacts theres no charities that I know of that are working on this. The area I am talking about is Llantrisant common if you'd want to visit, though I dont think you'll see enough to make a interesting video about considering the lack of ideal habitats now. It really is a lovely place I hate all the destructive actions taking place now

    Awhile ago now my mum was on a run and she found a fox jaw and showed it me. So about a month later I’d kept it in my room for Show and Tell at school. So I brought it in a plastic bag and showed it everyone. Some people were a bit grossed out as you’d expect 😂. EDIT: Your also very lucky to have found an entire spine

    I am happy to see a frog in London even on video. I wish I could see them in life. Over the last 20 years they seem to have declined in London much like the sparrows. I will go for a forage and look out for them in the reserve soon.

    • @NaturalWorldFacts

      @@NaturalWorldFacts most probably Tottenham since you found a few good things there. Just to feel good that I have seen another frog and slow worm, hopefully.
      Would be great to meet you with my kids to go on a half day trip. You should think about a small business like that which i am sure you have.

    • @NaturalWorldFacts
      @NaturalWorldFacts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah! The place in the video is (confusingly) Totternhoe, which is about an hour out of central London. I have been to Tottenham too, and I think either location would be wonderful for you to take your kids and look for frogs and lizards! I’ve also heard good things about Hampstead Heath as a place to find grass snakes!! Which is incredible. I’ve only ever seen one, and it was nowhere near the city :)

      It’s really upsetting to see how much the wild populations have declined, even in my short lifetime. I’ve never seen a living hedgehog, and so many of London’s amphibians are threatened. Richmond Park is my favourite spot to visit these days, for it still feels wild, as if it’s a haven for life amidst the ever-growing, overcrowded city. I’m glad you enjoyed the video, and it’s so lovely to hear from somebody who spent their youth making similar memories like this. Thank you so much for watching.

    I read somewhere that amphibian skin is made up in a way that handling actually hurts them, dont know if restraining then that much is appropriate

    • @NaturalWorldFacts
      @NaturalWorldFacts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You’re right, it can damage the mucus layer on their skin. But it’s worse if you wash your hands thoroughly as any residual soap or chemicals will damage them even more. Handling them briefly won’t cause any long-term damage or any irritation as the mucus layer is constantly being regenerated, so holding them in the video shouldn’t be too detrimental. And I kept my hands moist with a little bit of distilled water while handling.

  • @gamewithadam7235
    @gamewithadam7235 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I thought touching frogs and toads with your hands/fingers is bad for them because they absorb things from your skin that isn't good for them.

    I live in Cornwall and as a kid I seen so many frogs, toads and slow worms. I don't see any now and haven't in years. do you have a idea of why that is please?

    • @NaturalWorldFacts
      @NaturalWorldFacts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I used to see far more reptiles and amphibians than I do today. They’ve come under threat - more people keeping fish in their ponds leaves frogs with nowhere to lay their spawn, a rise in cats and a loss of slow worms’ preferred woodland habitats is causing them to decline. It’s really sad.
