I went down the rabbit hole of buy a lot of 3D terrain, Dwarven Forge, Warlock tiles, and off brands. I have to say now after many years that I have used them a lot. Looking back I should have just crafted my own and would have been a lot cheaper and I didn't need as much as I bought. Also I literally have 100s of miniatures and Skinny Minis. My obsession took control of me. I did get into painting minis and that is very calming and I also make terrain now.
I have spent thousands on all of that stuff. If you are the person who is going to spend a lot of money on miniatures and terrain, don't, just buy a 3d printer, you will save yourself a fortune in the long run. Minis, terrain, combat risers, trees, furniture, buildings, the files are all out there (except draconians, apparently), free, and it is easy and fun. I have printed over 100 minis in the last month, I still have a little bit of resin in the £17 bottle I opened in July. slaad, slaad tadpoles, treants, monks, manticores and many, many more. one thing that is not on the list, is numbered or alphabetical base rings, to help keep track of which un-named, grunt 0rc, goblin, bandit etc. is which. You can print them too. Don't spend a lot of money on single sets of dice, a few three quid resin sets will be good enough, unless what you really want to do is test them, they are balanced to better than 99%. The rest is just fluff, you don't need anything branded or expensive, just whatever suits you.
I love a good dice tower. The dice make satisfying clonking noises as they fall through them, it feels like they’re well rolled, and it helps contain the dice as you roll them. Unnecessary, but nice.
The word for a series of a bunch of different stories is anthology :) Glad to see a person actually review that bag, I've been considering getting one.
I love the silicone dice I bought from FanRoll, which is also my favorite (but not only) online dice retailer. But they're functionally unusable on my away game rolling mat due to the bounce. So I only use them for home games, with my dice tower. That does a good job of keeping them under control.
That Area of Effect template is great. I have one as well. Its made by Guilt Free Games. There are some other knock offs out there from china but there measurements are slightly off. Be sure to get the Guilt Free Games one. They make some other really cool stuff too including the condition markers and some cool bags. It looks like you own the Guild Free Gaming one but linked to the Chinese one in the description. I'd recommend switching that. It is a better product. I also have potions but they are ones I made and are in bigger bottles which is super nice. There was an online tutorial on how to make them. Then someone took that tutorial and did a kickstarter to sell them but you can make them super cheap on your own. I even added some red resin in there to make it look like a potion. For the silicon dice, I have a couple sets and I don't mind them. They roll good in a dice tower and if you just roll them into a tray and not drop them they are fine. But Fan Roll makes some amazing dice in general. Their liquid core are my favorite and I use them all the time. They are my favorite dice maker.
So for the bouncy dice (and I know this from experience)... if you have a really solid dice tower, you can just throw the dice as hard as you can and (if you're accurate) the dice bounce around in the tower a very satisfying amount of time before they drop.... be ready to stop them from flying out of your dice tray
I’ve been playing for almost a year now, so I’m still kind of new at it; but this has been EXTREMELY informative. Sellers always catch D&D players because of all of the new shiny stuff; and I am no exception. 😂 I was actually looking at quite a bit of these, so it’s nice to know what works compared to others, and which ones are worth your money.
The dice alone are hilarious. Cashier: Just so you know, people have complained these dice are too bouncy Dice Goblin: I don't mind Dice Goblin at home: These dice are too bouncy. Time to buy more!
That smoke machine was pretty neat. That probably wouldn't get used much in my games, either, but it would still be a neat effect for an end of campaign boss fight.
I made my own potion and poison bottles. After trial and error tests my favorite is Uxcell 100ml widemouth plastic bottles and Koplow Games 8mm 6 sided dice. Works no problems. I use red for heals and green and blue for other potion/poison strength or duration.
What is your monthly budget for D&D? I have bought dice sets from 98 cents a set to maybe $12 but that is a rare buy. The potion dice is a gift set. We use soda bottle rings for condtions. But some of my gamers will bring their rings.
I just Bought three aoe templates this month. 2 3d plastic templates set. 1 similar to the one you shown. Mainly I game with a lot of casuals who need the templates.
i bought a 40 piece dice sets on amazon for 20$ and condition rings, distance rules, etc from index cards and sharpies. i bought the player's guide and dm guide and i wish i could get my money back cause the 5e SRD core rules are available for free.
I love a nice smelling candle - HOWEVER - my biggest issue with many scented candles is that there is often a component of the scent that sears my sinuses. My wife now has me sniff test them at the store before purchase to make sure she doesn't buy another one that makes me feel like I just snorted chlorine. I'm sure other people have scents that they're either put-off by or have some really bad associations with (smell being so strongly tied with memory) that this is one thing you'd want to check with the play group in advance. Beyond that I invested in a couple of 3D printers (both a resin & a filament) so I can print minis, monsters, terrain, & props. Plus paints for them. It's definitely an investment in time and money, but being able to print what I want and then make it look how I want is pretty valuable compared to buying them all. There are a ton of models that 3D modelers put out there completely for free, which I think is just fantastic!
I really like the AOE templates and such, but I do find that it makes the game too... linear? I enjoy having things be up for a little bit of interpretation & to give the players a chance to react to the spells, rather than a spell just blanket reaching the exact point and hitting anything there. Plus a ruler does the same thing at the end of the day :P It's interesting to see just how many gadgets have been made for this game, and how little I own myself 😅
Thank you for sharing your content. This gives me great ideas for Christmas. Gonna download twitch later and learn how to use it. See you there, have a good day, and happy adventuring!
I have corked bottles of health potion dice ... I use them a lot .... I have bottles bought separately, with a wide opening, and tiny dice - they then work really well and remind people they have them, and how many they have left ...
I bring my condition rings as a player just so I can mark any conditions I put onto creatures. Makes the game easier to keep track of. Especially in PF2 where it’s nothing but conditions, it seems.
The real S tier DnD gear I wish I had was players who will actually show up and play *in person* so I can actually use all of this stuff I've spend far too much money on. *sigh* Thanks COVID.
man, you make really cool videos.. can't believe you're not at 10x of your current sub count. thanks for what you do, you really helped me with your videos to be a better dm
I really like your content, but for the love of gawd, PLEASE get a microphone stand or arm. You trying to handle your toys and your mic at the same time is so distracting, I just couldn't go on watching.
You literally THREW that “bouncy” die from the height of your shoulder to ensure it would bounce off your rolling box. By contrast you calmly roll the next one from the hip. It just looks completely biased.
What is with all the cuts? Some of the shots are only a single word before he cuts to the next take. I want to watch this, but four to five jump-cuts per sentence is maddening.😢
A stream into a normal video is a hard transition generally I think. Stream can be so chaotic because you’re responding to people in chat and it’s live so you’re not doing a retake when you stumble or just loose your train of thought. I know I randomly just pause mid sentence all the time because my brain is just buffering because you’re aware of so many random things when streaming. There’s more going on than people realize I think. I’m honestly super impressed with how smooth the audio is considering the number of cuts that were needed to make it quick and short for TH-cam
@@Matziamousehouse That wasn't a stream, it was a scripted and recorded video. But. If you.. can..... only get one...... or..... two words... before ...... needing to..... cut.... to... a different take. RE-RECORD IT!
@ you can literally see the stream chat on screen. And in the first 30 seconds of the video he says it is. If the attention span is too short to remember the beginning of an 18 min video 2 second clips are probably the right length for your content anyways

Same 😂
Same!
I've been wanting to get into terrain building but I'm scared to get the wrong stuff, what materials do you use?
@gabrielaruiz4571 rp archive has videos and a shopping list and tells you what you need for each build

The condition rings needed to be S tier
I have found condition rings to be a genuine necessity when I play IRL (not as much on VTT as many have their own marking system for me to use).
I love a good dice tower. The dice make satisfying clonking noises as they fall through them, it feels like they’re well rolled, and it helps contain the dice as you roll them. Unnecessary, but nice.

A tailor’s tape measure is fantastic for odd measurements on the fly, especially if you do theatre-of-the-mind
That's what I use. Very useful and compact.
17:23 As a D&D like creator, I liked the smoke machine mention. Haha
14:10 Love Death and Robots!!! I love that programme. Also, great vid! Defo subbing.
A bit niche but I bought a tv to play 3D maps on. Best financial decision ever. A 3D printer also can be worthwhile

13:50 THank you for that HIMYM reference ! I often do that and my friends don't get it 😂

It's good to see a focus on things that are actually used or bring joy
The dice alone are hilarious.
Cashier: Just so you know, people have complained these dice are too bouncy
Dice Goblin: I don't mind
Dice Goblin at home: These dice are too bouncy. Time to buy more!
every video he says "I'm probably live right now" and every video I check and our times do not align
That smoke machine was pretty neat. That probably wouldn't get used much in my games, either, but it would still be a neat effect for an end of campaign boss fight.
Warlock tiles are the biggest con, for the price of 3 or 4 boxes you can buy a 3d printer then print dungeons for 26-39 dollars
I’ll add. Laser pointer. Super easy for bigger maps.

I buy steno pads by the dozen from the office supply store & use a different one for each adventure/campaign. Cheap, portable, and practical.

My friend got a smoke machine for our game. We used it one time but had a great time with it
Great content ! Would recommend you have a camera facing down at your desk and hands to show products and then another camera for just your face
I bring my condition rings as a player just so I can mark any conditions I put onto creatures. Makes the game easier to keep track of. Especially in PF2 where it’s nothing but conditions, it seems.
Cool! You put it somewhere 🤗 thanks for that!
The real S tier DnD gear I wish I had was players who will actually show up and play *in person* so I can actually use all of this stuff I've spend far too much money on. *sigh* Thanks COVID.
My best advice is to get a nice set of resin dice, and one gemstone d20.
journals are S-tier. Any kind of journal. Players and GMs. Knowing what the hell happened last session is so key.
I think you were looking for the word "Anthology" 14:10
Lmao I have the Fanroll silicone dice too and I agree those stinkers bounce like mad 😂
Conditions rings are cool
You get a sub just for the How I met your mother reference
When you see the deck of many more things in person it really makes you want to put it in S tier
Get on OfferUp, but a $20 flat screen TV, get on a DnD map program like Infinite realms, and only that way.
man, you make really cool videos..
can't believe you're not at 10x of your current sub count.
thanks for what you do, you really helped me with your videos to be a better dm
you need an adblocker at least for when creating videos. Cool vid regardless.
👍
Very helpful!
I was wondering if you were going to mention your dice tray 😂 considering snagging one
GENERAL BOOKS!!!! HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER
Good Afternoon. Just found your channel. I am guessing you play 5E. I am a 3.5E player/DM. Some of the items would work for me as well. So Thank you.
Di is singular, dice is plural
Pretty sure anything will dice if you THROW THEM AT FULL FORCE! hahahah
How did the combat risers get on the list? They weren't discussed!
4:47
bro you started off your video saying the chat wouldn't move much because not that many people were watching. Now I'm bummed that I missed the stream
You have a good voice and a nice personality, you need to improve your editing skills
Trying to with every video! Thanks for the feedback
Came here from TH-cam shorts
The system works!
how on earth can this video have 42k views but 63 comments?? that makes zero sense
I read that as tasted and I’m so disappointed…
"I have hundreds of dollars it D&D stuff"... yeah sure... Regards!
