Betta Edu Appears Before EFCC for Questioning Alleged

- The anti-graft war by the administration of President Bola Tinubu is in full swing, but we await the outcome. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has detained a former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, for questioning over fraud allegations in the handling of 37.1 billion naira social intervention funds. Meanwhile, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, had a date with the EFCC at its headquarters in Abuja, for questioning over alleged 585 million naira fraud. The invitation was sent to the suspended minister less than 30 minutes after President Tinubu announced her suspension from office.

Imagine Hope Uzodinma saying "we have only one president whose wisdom we cannot question". This attitude is what breeds corruption. Uzodinma, everybody can be questioned. The only solution to misappropriation and embezzlement of the public funds is to have a system of Checks and Balances. No blank checks to a public official to carry out government functions and duties; in the area of purchases. There must be a central authority, like an Office Of Management and Budget, where an accomplished job is paid by that authority alone after approval. For a public individual to have access to public funds leaves room for actions like that of Betta Edu.
This woman has not done anything new in Nigeria only that she is unfortunate to be caught.

It is obvious that this young lady was misled by someone who is familiar with our that Ministry has been run. I watch this lady through our time as the APC National Women leader and she worked so hard for the president during the campaign that it is sad that she has to be in the situation that she is in now. There is no excuse not to follow the laid down procedures in an organization but in this case, I strongly believe that the element of inexperience heading a ministry might have played a role in addition to being misled. She was fully aware of the complaint people made about this ministry and she should have been more careful. She vowed to be transparent and put an end to the corruption associated with the Ministry. It is hard for me to believe that the lady had the intention of duping the government after all the warning from the president on the retreat day. Well Nigerians should wait for the end of the investigation to pass judgment. We can only feel sorry for her now being the youngest Minister in the cabinet.

If you are in a ministry and they say minister is coming, you will see how everyone from top to bottom is running helter scelter cos a human being is coming. Just less than one year, the big appointment has collapsed before her face with shame and disgrace.

The letter has the it addressed to the office of the accountant general, how come the accountant general is denying having any knowledge of it.
