I had two 448’s, one complete but needed work, other minus engine along with a lot of attachments. Space is tight under the hood and there are lots of expensive parts to a hydraulic system. I needed something newer and got a Toro 520xi, sold all of the Case & Ingersol stuff one by one totaling about $3,000. I now have three 5xi tractors.
Interesting... Bought a project Ingersoll 4016 which has the Briggs and Stratton 16hp Intek V-Twin and its engine is mounted in the opposite direction. Cooling for the hydraulics is accomplished using the engine's cooling system. Radiator is mounted near the steering column rather than up in the grill area. Need to pull its engine and cooling shroud and give it a good cleaning. Mice like to make nests inside there and these engines do not take well to running hot. The steel valve guides work loose from the aluminum cylinder heads and bend the push rods. Sister in-laws JD L120 succumbed to this. Has the vertical shaft version of this engine. One of the previous owners lost the cover plate behind the steering column and I will have to find or make one. Need to ensure it directs enough air through the oil cooler. It is a little beat up, in need of some love but runs strong. Came with the mower deck and snow caster. All for 200 dollars.
Nice. I have a old case similar to this. Not sure what model. I need to get it going. It may need a new engine. And I was considering putting disc brakes and dual pedles and masters on it. If I have the parts laying around. And can find them cheap enough. I mostly need it for scrape blade and pulling!
My son owns a 446 with a Vanguard 18 hp in it. The wiring for it is a mess. It does run but could use some cleaning up. Is there any chance you could tell us or forward a drawing some how how you did it? Looks very nice!
This looks great! I'm in the middle of doing this exact same repower just can't figure out where to hook up the 2 wires for the charging system and shut off? It cranks but these 2 wires are stumping me. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
I have a question for you case 446 guys,I have a 85' 446 that ran great,then suddenly won't get fuel,has new battery & plugs so I put a new fuel filter in and it's getting to the carburetor but still nothing,it starts for a second with carb cleaner but won't stay running, is a a fuel pump or the carb?? I'd appreciate any input!
was it worth spending time and money on 1 wheel drive tractor? no locking differential makes it terrible climber... and no brakes! if 1 wheel is on slippery surface. Its a shame that engineers at case would not design it with 2 brakes at each driveshaft.
Its true, I wish it had a locking diff. but if you have good grip with tires or chains and lots of weight , it doesn't break loose and does the job. I had no difficulty for instance in the garden , only ocasionally on the snow. but for what it is I would absolutely say yes it was worth it. and FUN!

How hard is the wiring to figure out I just bought a 448 and I replaced the key switch and solenoid and battery and still no power
