Is this 10 year old $30,000 3D printer still any good?

Frankly it’s amazing how far the industry has come and it’s allowed everyday people to have great quality prints for a fraction of the price.

@@bombswabs3041 crazy, at that price it's basically free as their filament costs that much per spool now XD

For the support on the strat system, pretty sure they are NOT water soluble. Most likely they are the sodium hydroxide soluble supports. (I think something like drano).
On another note, the stratasys system you have Nd older models have that level of print quality and have been out for over 20 years (I’ve used many of them)…. Stratasys patent blocked the FDM industry for over 20 years but that’s now just starting to change.

@@JohnCarver3 they aren't water soluble, they require some solution I don't have, and probably won't bother figuring out as I'm not going to try to use the printer anymore (as I don't actually own it) , but I totally agree that it's a shame that bigger companies have limited the development of FDM for so long and I'm really looking forward to seeing the "new" technology implemented in desktop printers soon.

I know this vid is a longer than normal, and doesn't really get into the numbers as much, but there were just a few things that I really wanted to articulate, and some that I didn't because it's not really a relevant printer. But tldr, it's just too slow and clunky to compete in today's market (ignoring the obvious price problem)

I watched through the entire video waiting for you to compare that benchy to the default settings benchy from your prusa. Im disappointed.
Another thing. Prepare a list of things you want to talk about before shooting the video. You've talked about proprietary slicer and the mandatory supports like 5 times throughout the video.

They were shot on different weeks entirely and I just kinda forgot mb, I hardly plan my videos as I'm just a kid in highschool and that's where most of my energy goes, I just like to film and try to showcase some of the cool stuff I get the chance to play with, I apologize, I do plan of putting much more effort into my videos this summer, once I'm out of school, but for now I'm just kinda learning how to edit little by little and get no feedback whatsoever, but I'll try to do better.
As for the benchy, I was going to, but one of the things I didn't mention is that the slicer couldn't interpret the original file, and so when it fixed it, it scaled it up to be massive, and then set that size as the default size (100%), and so when I scaled it back down I could only eyeball it and it is just a bit bigger than the default one off my prusa. With so many differences I just didn't think a comparison would be worth while as it's just too different. Plus I just film on my phone's camera, and it can't really pick up any details better than I could describe it.
All that being said, yes I do think that the video is lack luster in many regards, I just have never had any feedback, or really much of an audience before, nor did I anticipate much of one.
Once I get back I'll make a video and try to compare the two.

@oneletterlon I didn't mean to shit on your video. Treat it as a suggestion if you decide to do youtube more seriously.
Honestly I didn't see how small your channel is when I wrote that comment. I thought you were a regular 3d printing channel since you popped up on my home page so you've done something right.
I wouldn't stress about filming on a phone. You already have better audio than Teaching Tech lmao! Just work on your storytelling and your channel will grow.
If you couldn't get the scaling to work then even more so you should've compared them. Part of the benchy test is having accurate dimensions. If statasys' slicer can't even print some stls accurately then it's literally useless in the industry (where they print functional stuff that has to fit together, not decorative trinkets). No reprap based printer would ever have such a problem, even those $50 ones from AliExpress. I feel like it should be an important part of the video.
EDIT: I went through your channel and your last 3 videos have banger titles. Seriously, if you write a script for your videos, do some light editing (like when you showed the clip of you slicing the model, and you see that you rambled too much, do a voiceover and use the video as B-roll) and *film horizontally* you have a serious chance of your channel blowing up.

@@igorordecha Ty, I figured that you probably just didn't recognize my situation. Also I do plan on filming normally, but most of my long for vids are just extensions of what I don't have time to say in my short, like 90% of my views on long form come from shorts recommendations, so by continuing the same vid format on those kinds of vids it stays consistent, but ik its awful for non phone viewers, and I do plan on changing formats eventually. As for the benchy, the scaling is my fault, not the printers, It's just error on my side/slicers side of not figuring out why it distorted and trying to fix it properly and instead just me getting it to look good enough to hit print within five mins so I'm not late to my next class. Every other print that its done was dimensionally perfect, idk why the benchy got messed up in the slicer.
