for Royal Taxes: you need to maintain population for one branch under 100. Every headcount above 100 will inflict royal taxes. For example: you have 1000 farmers on one island. 800 have a job and 200 sit. Out of those 200 -> 100 will be considered as buffer and the other 100 will pay royal taxes.
I've found that exporting goods can throw out the production, consumption balance. Pity you can't separate the island consumption from what you export. I know the amount the ship(s) is carrying but the frequency, ie, number of trips the ships make is harder to follow. Unless I'm missing something. ☹ The same is the case with export /import to other islands. Demand changes and it is tricky getting the balance right at times, especially when an island is growing.
You can set a limit on the amount of a product you want to export from the island, so that you never drop below that limit. Also, you can press CTRL and Q, CTRL and left click multiple islands in that menu (maybe the island you're exporting from, and the island you're sending it to for example) to see if you're fulfilling all of the needs for both islands. Those are the ways I work it out!

Nice tips! How about an Anno series from scratch?
Thank you! That's a good suggestion, I currently stream it on Twitch. That could be a different video series I can do though, we'll see!
