I'm a DC fan, I KNOW Golden Age Lex Luthor, but....... I though "we are not in 1938" like like Perry White sayed himself, so....... Why use this Lex Luthor?
We saw in other movies the serious and mature Lex, I think they gave us a new perspective of the character and I liked it a lot, I feel that this character is going to become more mature and dark and we are going to see the Lex we all know!
Even if the character does not change to resemble other portrayals of the character; why does that matter? The only criteria that should be used to examine the character is, "Does that character serve a purpose in this story? Does the character feel as if it comes from the world of this story? Is the portrayal of the character consistent with the world and does it compliment the other actors work?" As long as the character continues to fulfill that criteria then nothing else should matter.
If by mature they mean older then yes, this is typical. But you are correct; Lex is a narcissist and a sociopath and has been since the 1986 reboot. His cool detachment is a function of his pathology he believes himself to be above any other human on the planet. However like all narcissists Lex is quick to blow should he be challenged as his ego will not allow that kind of affront. What people remember or see is, at times, only what they choose to. In this case people want to cling to the facade of the character instead of embracing the fact that he was always not just a little, but all the way insane. Just because you're a genius doesn't mean you can't be nuts.
ReelO Lmao being that it's based on the version from a certain comic it's pretty damn accurate you're just biased because of your idea of lex you can't say the acting itself was bad, he gave a hell of a performance
A while ago after watching this, I respect this movie and take back all my complaints. I see what they went for honestly. This lex was just a version of him on his way of being the true Lex Luthor villain we are waiting for, he’s being reborn. I like what they went for and respect them for going that way. I hope that Zach’s cut of Justice league gives us more of this. Can’t wait to watch it. Batman v Superman is a really underrated movie.
Dude. Thank you. Jesus christ. Your comment is the exact one I would use to describe how critics and WB fucked the dceu over. People bitches and moaned over movies they didn’t understand bc its not marvel and WB trashed it. What a fuckin world we live in
Don’t make me laugh. How in the world is he even a good Lex Luthor. Calling this Lex “Ultimate” is a straight up insult to other villains that are miles better than Jesse Eisenberg’s portrayal of Lex. From Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ Kang, Aaron Stanford’s Pyro, Ian Mckellen’s Magneto, Josh Brolin’s Thanos, Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock, The Maker from Ultimate Fantastic Four and the list goes on.
Honestly, I wanted to see another type of Lex - more confident, more adult, more bold, and first time I didn't like him at all. But, watching it again in ultimate cut I really liked him. He's really dangerous and unpredictable. He's great! Good work!
Sam Blake As the character evolves throughout the DCEU I think we'll begin to see the Lex that everyone's used to. A more fully realized one. Just like our homeboy Superman.
Sam Blake yes but lex always had this charming way about him. he could convince anybody thanks to his charismatic personality. but this lex was annoyimg, child like, and misunderstood. liked the character but just wrong lex

DCEU's Lex is a Lex riddled with PTSD and personality disorders after suffering sexual abuse at the hands of his father. It's mean't to be over the top and annoying. He's clearly mentally ill and driven by a psychotic hatred of 'God' who he blames for not saving him. It was an interesting way to approach it.
@MP R Also, this Lex was Alexander Jr.,the son of a Lex Luthor who had a public reputation as a heroic philanthropist but at home was no less cruel than the tyrants who victimized him in his native land. Alexander Sr. in The Film was in fact a composite of the Earth-3 Lex Luthor(The name and more heroic reputation than most Lex Luthors) and the Earth-2 Lex Luthor/Alexei(Growing up in poverty in the Soviet Bloc, defecting to the U.S. and becoming a famous philanthropist whilst secretly being a mad scientist and abusive father).
Great villainous performance! Many fans are still figuring out how great DAWN OF JUSTICE really is. I love both film versions. Pretty EPIC dark movie. 😱
"He's on his way to becoming the iconic Lex Luther in the comic books, but it's a very different version." - Geoff Johns literally in this video. Come on...
After watching this it just make me more curious to know how Lex character is going to be on the next movies. I would love to see this evolution of Lex first very charming but fucking awfully crazy young man become a strong evil man out of prison trying to destroy superman. I hope they stick with Eisenberg.
The more I watch Batman v Superman (ultimate edition) the more I like Lex Luthor. I mean the one scene I could do without is when he started twitching during his charity speech but other than that he was a memorable villain. I understood his motives and found his actions frightening. He knew who Batman and Superman was so orchestrated their civilian identities to meet. And the way he ordered the death of the fake witness was chilling.
That showcases his motivation amazingly though, the thought of Superman because in that scenario Luthor sees him as the one with the power and no knowledge. It set up his anger against Kal.
W O W .. . this movie really needs a deep understanding to be understood .. . to understand it all, i watched the extended cut, i read some explainations from the internet, i also watched some explanations from TH-cam . .. then finally i understand it and i realize that this movie was really smart and amazing .. . there was even no room for humor in this kind of film.
william kinlan okay then . . Everyone has a different perspective to everything . .. And maybe your mind saw this from the negative side. And me . .. I just enjoy it first, then i try to undersatnd it, and my mind GET the greatness side of this movie
You can tell if people "understand" this film by the Martha scene. If an idiot sees it as a joke then they dont understand the film entirely. I agree this film was very complex and will become a cult classic mark my words
Yes. I love this. I love that Lex is always the smartest in the room. The smartest on the planet. Bruce Wayne of course, is second. Exactly like the comics.
i really never liked the old lex... because he always seemed so proper... kevin spacey did a good job on making him little more maniac..but jese's one is the best take on character i have ever seen...
I wish Eisenberg had simply done his Zuckerberg take but a slight bit more menace....that would have truly been iconic. (A very smart guy, fragile in a way, but sinister with teeth. Empathetic enough to break someone down to their soul, but smart enough to design a nuclear quantum laser to cut your actual soul.) His version of Lex was borderline wacky.
I said this in another video, Eisenberg's Luthor is inspired in Superman: Birthright, get a look to that and it'll change your perspective about Jesse's perfomance.
So it is a poor choice of comic inspiration then. Some comic versions of characters do not translate well to live action. Jesse was simply terrible. You can't force people to see it differently. Most disliked Jesse's Lex for good reason. Nobody can take that face seriously.
If you have to watch a Behind the Scenes video to appreciate more what you didn't like about a character originally, then there is still a serious problem with the portrayal.
What is the meaning. Enlighten us. He is just a shitty Lex. Zack should have went for animated series Lex. Not some kid. People hate Jesse's portrayal for a reason. If so many people don't "understand", maybe it was not the best choice to begin with. You make movies to make money. BvS was a shit show anyway. Too much stuff in one movie.
The fact this dude won the Razzie because of a bunch of crybaby fanboys whining about him not being Bryan Cranston makes me hang my head in shame. Different doesn't mean bad and if you think this performance was bad then you know nothing about acting.
How is this even your favorite villain portrayals in a comic book movie. This is a perfect example of what not to do when it comes to casting and execution of a villain. Who’s gonna be excited seeing Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor if you can even call him that.
Tom Siebert why do Snyder die-hards assume if you think his films are trash it’s because you’re an MCU fanboy 😂😂😂😂. I just watched the Batman and Lex in prison scene and it is f’ing awful he is literally just being Jim Carey in Batman forever
A U no he’s actually being the original lex Luthor from the early comics. Did you not even watch the vid. That’s scene is a warning from the bat. It’s fricken awesome. Also lex Luthor had just given us an indication about what he did. He rung the bell. He’s psychotic. It’s who he is. He’s taken from the comics but you ARE just to much of an mcufan to admit it. You probably haven’t even watched BVS. And that performance 100% deserves an Oscar.
Muzaffar Zarrataj i get tired of telling special people that this movie was messy, superman bashing, murder fantasy that looled pretty but made no sense.
So loved Diana's reaction to Lex's story about the Gods and how the Titan; Prometheus was punished by Zeus. Her reaction in feeling insulted was too understated in the film. Cos Lex is taking liberties with the events in mythology and insulting her father at the same time. Wonder if she'll finally confront him in Justice League and slap the crap out of him remembering the event night from BvS here, lol.
clark kent Exactly, -Superman- I mean Clark. 3:30-3:40 explain why DC cast Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and were his character arc is setting for the DCEU :)
To be honest for me Jessie's Lex was so good he portrayed the young Lex well imagine after 4 years his face somehow gets old and try to put muscles he will be the perfect Lex of the future DCEU period we don't have to rush things for DC they are just the beginning and already planned movies maybe up to 2030
Spacebar Hater I hope Eisenberg fully grows into Lex Luther like the one we know now. I hope in the future he bulks up into a physically empowering figure and pull off a fully matured threat.
When I found out that Jesse was going to play Lex Luthor, I was like: "Weird chose, but I'll give WB/DC a chance. Like look what Heath Ledger did with the Joker" But when I was watching BvS, and saw Lex Luthor in the first 2 minutes he was in, I was like: "What the hell did I just witnessed? Did he really put a jolly rancher in that guy's mouth?"
thats not what I was saying. Lex knows she is some sort of Meta-human as she is over 100 years old at least (actually a lot older than that). The question is does he know that she is the daughter of Zeus or not? If he has just that image of her and some video footage of her it seems unlikely he knows anything else about Diana
It’s not my favorite version of the character, but he was better than I thought he would be and I have grown to appreciate his performance well enough. The scene where he throws the picture at Clark is excellent.
Dude. Eisenberg is the same age as Cavill. That makes Superman the same age AS LEX LUTHOR IN THIS MOVIE! EPIC FAIL! No! Lex is like the joker/riddler in this film. Worst Lex ever! Lex was supposed to be older than Clark and the same age as Batman in the lore!
4:35 Man say what you want but jesse eisenberg really does understand the character of Lex evident by this video and for me he's my favourite lex luthor.
Having been a long time fan of the Birthright comics, I always thought Jesse Eisenberg would nail the role since the announcement. And, in many ways, f*** yes, he definitely did! However, I wish the script could have been polished a bit more. I feel like production interference just keeps getting in the way of Zack Snyder's vision. Personally, I don't even think the Ultimate Edition has all the story/plot points from what was initially planned by Snyder.
I also enjoyed BvS's take on Lex being the antithesis to Batman. Batman being the part of humanity who would eventually accept Superman's existence as an ally, where Lex would completely reject him.
My thought is I like this Lex Luthor but the story didn’t support anything to understand him. He’s like just a villain and didn’t bring anymore than that.
I don't blame the script. The script was fine. It's Eisenberg. Jesse Eisenberg as LEX LUTHOR! Cast anybody in the role of Lex Luthor and they would've made the movie alot better than what he did. Playing as this Joker/Riddler wannabe. You see in a superhero movie. When a superhero gets it's 1st movie. The hit & success of that movie boils down to how the main character is protrayed and respected by the fanbase: the superhero. And when that superhero gets a sequel. That movie's success henges often with the villain. And casting Jesse Eisenberg as Lex is the how and the reason this movie flopped!!!
This thing that made bvs a bad movie, was because they forgot what was the original idea of LEX in the comic. Lex was created before the soical media world, and was just a business man. Trying to invent lex in modern day, is like trying to make 70's outfit in 2000. The idea don't fit , and it then destroy the original concept of the character creation.
And that was where WB & Zack Snyder failed: Casting Eisenberg & turning him into Tony Stark. And you're right. Lex was only a businessman. Hell. You can watch Michael Rosenbum in Smallville and tell the difference.

Very underrated performance by Jesse.
Elz Robinson It's rated pretty fairly. It was cringy and atrocious
if u say so lol
ReelO Lmao being that it's based on the version from a certain comic it's pretty damn accurate you're just biased because of your idea of lex you can't say the acting itself was bad, he gave a hell of a performance

Divvay Khatri good joke
People seen the older movies and talking shit but this lex was actually the original one in the comic this was what lex Luther was meant to be
A while ago after watching this, I respect this movie and take back all my complaints. Batman v Superman is a really underrated movie.
u mean lex is turning into lex from the comics...darn if only people let the damn character arcs finish
Dude.

@@luisquintero7359 4 years later man, calm down damn
Honestly, I wanted to see another type of Lex - more confident, more adult, more bold, and first time I didn't like him at all. But, watching it again in ultimate cut I really liked him. He's really dangerous and unpredictable. He's great! Good work!
Sam Blake As the character evolves throughout the DCEU I think we'll begin to see the Lex that everyone's used to. A more fully realized one. Just like our homeboy Superman.
Sam Blake same
Sam Blake yes but lex always had this charming way about him. he could convince anybody thanks to his charismatic personality. but this lex was annoyimg, child like, and misunderstood. liked the character but just wrong lex
Leisure Gaming fully realised Lex has a charming way about him. Beginner Lex and birthright Lex does not.
Sam Blake Michael Rosenbaum was a better Lex Luthor
Really loved Jesse's version of lex he was creepy and evil he did a brilliant job!
See especially if you watch these behind the scenes features, The Lex Luthor character motivation makes so much sense
Eisenberg is so underappreciated. I love this take so much more than I thought I would.
Rosenbaum is the best though, but that's too slow of a burn to work here.
Michael Rosenbaum is the most perfect Lex we have ever gotten, but I truly enjoyed Jesse Eisenberg's portrayal as well.
I totally feel the same way☺
He even came back in a Flash

@@SpeedDemon908 If actors didn’t use stage names, it would be way more than Lex Luthor lol
It actually make sense after seeing this. I'm going to look at BVS again.
Don't know where you got the sexual abuse from as opposed to just physical and verbal abuse, but outside of that, I agree with you all the way.
Finally someone else who gets it
MP R sure it was an interesting approach but I think a different actor could've pulled it off better. Jesse eisenberg was annoying as lex
@MP R Also, this Lex was Alexander Jr.,the son of a Lex Luthor who had a public reputation as a heroic philanthropist but at home was no less cruel than the tyrants who victimized him in his native land. Alexander Sr. in The Film was in fact a composite of the Earth-3 Lex Luthor(The name and more heroic reputation than most Lex Luthors) and the Earth-2 Lex Luthor/Alexei(Growing up in poverty in the Soviet Bloc, defecting to the U.S. and becoming a famous philanthropist whilst secretly being a mad scientist and abusive father).
i dont know why people hate this lex luthor in BvS he's focking dabest bro

Great villainous performance! Many fans are still figuring out how great DAWN OF JUSTICE really is. I love both film versions. Pretty EPIC dark movie. 😱
greatest comic book movie imo
And people say this Lex isn't comic accurate
Those people don't read comics. Lol
I _do_ read comics and Luthor never acted like this.
"This not the real Lex Luthor. Go read the comics you fucking casuals!!!"
-Non comic readers
r0bw00d thats not true, read birthright.
"He's on his way to becoming the iconic Lex Luther in the comic books, but it's a very different version." - Geoff Johns literally in this video.
Come on...
Not c gonna lie after seeing this breakdown of Lex I kinds wanna watch him develop more into the type of character he's meant to become.
After watching this it just make me more curious to know how Lex character is going to be on the next movies. I would love to see this evolution of Lex first very charming but fucking awfully crazy young man become a strong evil man out of prison trying to destroy superman. I hope they stick with Eisenberg.
Your wish has been granted.
I think that was the moment when the mask started cracking in front of all those people. He was struggling to hold the monster within.
He played the character so nicely it was unique how he played it
W O W .. . this movie really needs a deep understanding to be understood .. . to understand it all, i watched the extended cut, i read some explainations from the internet, i also watched some explanations from TH-cam . .. then finally i understand it and i realize that this movie was really smart and amazing .. . there was even no room for humor in this kind of film.
william kinlan then that means you still do not understand about this movie
william kinlan then you need to remove a little "hate for DC" before you watch this movie
william kinlan okay then .
That's because you're prepubescent child.
BvS is about as deep as a puddle. "MAAAARTHA!?"
Even though he didn't really suits the role (since he's not too tall, not that muscular and he's too young) his performance is really good!
WB really screwed the pooch on this one. Zack knew exactly what he was doing and they missed it entirely. This Lex would have been great!
I would've accept Jesse Eisenberg's Lex had he played him the way he did in the Social Network.
I clicked on this video because batman looks like a beast in the thumbnail
One of the best portrayals of Lex Luthor.
frr
The speech scene was really well played
Watching this made me actually like his portrayal more than I did.
If you have to watch a Behind the Scenes video to appreciate more what you didn't like about a character originally, then there is still a serious problem with the portrayal.
I like how people complain so much about certain characters in this movie but they don't understand the meaning behind them
What is the meaning.
For me, he was the best actor of this movie.. He made us really hate him.
The fact this dude won the Razzie because of a bunch of crybaby fanboys whining about him not being Bryan Cranston makes me hang my head in shame. Different doesn't mean bad and if you think this performance was bad then you know nothing about acting.
at first i thought he was lex luthor jr but at the end hes a younger version of him
Scary thing is that you cant tell if Jessie Eisenberg is acting as Lex or just being himself..
Zack is a great director all these small details are over looked but only true fans will see.
This is one of my top favourite comicbook liveaction villain portrayals. Carefully written and the actors acting made it even better.
How is this even your favorite villain portrayals in a comic book movie. This is a perfect example of what not to do when it comes to casting and execution of a villain. Who’s gonna be excited seeing Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor if you can even call him that.
This is an Oscar winning performance
Jim Carey should've won one for Batman Forever in that case 😂😂😂😂
A U yeah and Downey should’ve one for Iron man in that case. Since we’re just kidding around. 🤣🤣

This Lex Luthor has a persona similar to the Joker, but I like it. He's a mad scientist. This is a logical interpretation of Mad.

And people said he acted nothing like Lex😒
clark kent Exactly, -Superman- I mean Clark. 3:30-3:40 explain why DC cast Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and were his character arc is setting for the DCEU :)
For me he acted like Jessie Eisenberg hes playing himself, he would make a good but annoying Riddler
The way he's pretending to invite his prey, pretending to be a social human being freaks me out.
but psychopaths actually do that
You see Lex Luthor haters. Even the DCEU Chairman *Geoff Jahns* even said that Luthor's character in BvS is an origin story @ 3:30-3:40
So they do know how Lex should look like. I thought they didn't know when they cast Jesse Eisenberg.
Best of all time. Period
Excited to see how Zack transforms him in the snydercut!
4:07 I didn't notice that there was a prisoner being hosed down. Lol
I don't remember him shouting "obeys only me..." just the "born to destroy you" part...
When I found out that Jesse was going to play Lex Luthor, I was like:
"Weird chose, but I'll give WB/DC a chance. Like look what Heath Ledger did with the Joker"
But when I was watching BvS, and saw Lex Luthor in the first 2 minutes he was in, I was like:
"What the hell did I just witnessed? Did he really put a jolly rancher in that guy's mouth?"
Because he's that powerful
Snyder mentioning Kubrick has raised my opinion of him tenfold 😂😂🙌
1:53 so Lex just badmouthed Zeus to a crowd including the daughter of Zeus. lol. Wonder if he knows that she's more than just a Meta-human
TheVargr He does know who she really is. Lex stole her 1918 photograph with her and Steve Trevor.
thats not what I was saying. Lex knows she is some sort of Meta-human as she is over 100 years old at least (actually a lot older than that). The question is does he know that she is the daughter of Zeus or not? If he has just that image of her and some video footage of her it seems unlikely he knows anything else about Diana
TheVargr I think he did it purposely to rile her up
Wow, never thought of it that way 🤔🤔
It’s not my favorite version of the character, but he was better than I thought he would be and I have grown to appreciate his performance well enough. The scene where he throws the picture at Clark is excellent.
he was born to play the role
I love how Diana is like "bitch have u been there to know?" at Lex's speech
RPIXELN Maybe Lex's ancestors was there when Diana was fighting Ares.
When I knew about Jesse's lex role i knew he was like the Young Lex just started out. I am a DC fan. People just dont know about comprehension
I would have messed up that last scene where they're shaving his head. I would have start giggling
Dang that’s crazy I’m trynna be an actor and seeing the actor who plays Luther is crazy how he remembers his lines
1:59 BATFLECK IS THE BEST PART IN EVERY MOVIE.
i had no problem with Jesse he was pretty okay
@@I-speak-U-shut-it I didn't "flop". It underperformed for sure as they were hoping to make a billion dollars, but it still made 830 million dollars!

i actually really liked jesse eisenberg as lex luthor. the only bad lex is kevin spacy
The Zack Snyder's filter is so dark I've never noticed Luthor was a redhead.
That's a very simple minded point of view!
And that was where WB & Zack Snyder failed: Casting Eisenberg & turning him into Tony Stark. And you're right. Lex was only a businessman. Hell. You can watch Michael Rosenbum in Smallville and tell the difference.
