      Would it not be possible to push the rads out and try an S duct through the indentation in the sides of the X (as Ferrari and possibly Alpine) have done. Would this help as it cannot be that expensive to prepare new external panels ?

    In theory, wouldn't water to air intercoolers also let you run a shorter overall intake improving throttle response slightly? Doubt it would make much of a difference, but when the entire field is less than 2s apart in qualifying, any bit of extra confidence for the drivers is a major bonus.

    I have to say I was wrong about this car on first look. It seemed like a weird amalgam of 2022 Mercedes, Ferrari & Red Bull, but as we’ve got to know it, the AMR-23 has taken some of the top-side concepts in its own direction. The car design looks more unified than at launch, this something that happened with last year’s Ferrari, that also looked disjointed at launch. The underfloor is likely closer to Red Bull which is good as that seems a more stable concept, as is the Mercedes suspension that’s more pliable than last year. Its made a good start and its impressive the drivers were caught out by how early they could put the power down when fighting the Ferrari and Mercedes out of tight corners. Got worry Mercedes that their chassis is not exploiting the AMG engine to its maximum.

    Great video as always. Isn't there supposed to be a trick some clever trick with the front suspension or is it just designed extremely well. I've heard that redbull and AM suspension performs much better than everyone else, given that AM use mercs rear suspension wouldn't this mean both teams have done something special in the front?

    • @BSport320
      @BSport320  ปีที่แล้ว +11

      That is very possible. Both suspensions (RedBull and AMR) are soft but can deal with lots of downforce without touching the ground too much.

    could you elaborate more about 2:20 "concepts that rely on certain flow separations in some situations"?

    • @BSport320
      @BSport320  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      For example in pre DRS time, teams stalled the flap to have a drag advantage. Stalling the rear wing flap also meant less support for the diffuser and in some cases this flow also stalled.
      But these things depend on ambient conditions, temperature etc.
      There were bad accidents because reattachment wasn't fast enough and this doesn't give the driver confidence.

    Isn't this an interpretation of the Williams FW44 A-spec ramp style sidepod?
    Aston only added an physical wall to push tyre wake out whereas Williams were trying that by pushing air from a vent in the sidepod.

    Hey Martin, quick question, don't we find it surprising that Dan and other key members were not slapped with an aggressive gardening leave considering that he would've been working closely with the design team, its seems crazy that they jumped teams pretty much mid-season. and when are teams allowed to do that? I ask because we always hear about people from the FIA being slapped with multi year gardening leaves when they decide to join a team, couldn't imagine RB didn't try everything in their power to extend that transition period.

    • @naufalpahlevi8976
      @naufalpahlevi8976 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gardening leave wasn't controlled by FIA.. Each team has their own rules and reasons to use it or not.. Redbull is not afraid at all if Dan would use the similar concept as RB18 in Aston.. Redbull is highly competitive team, they believe in their own staff's can beat Aston all year long... they had more experience, more data and more ready facility than Aston.. Heck they even had the balls to compete against Honda engine in 2026, despite the fact that they never make a single engine before

    To me it seems like this sidepod design would be extremely easy for mercedes to implement given their sidepods are so compact. The key difference would be aston not using the x chassis but likely using more center mounted radiators/cooling while mercedes having less center mounted chassis but utilizing the x chassis. I can't imagine mercedes easily beating aston by following them in this path but I could see it possibly happening given how much design freedom they have with their radiators and crash structure not impeding their sidepods.

      That could be done but I doubt they need this (You would need lower pressure than on the sidepod to do this). The boundary layer is not very thick at this point because the sidepod just started and the air didn't travel for long yet.

    Near its mid-point the ARM23's waterslide goes deeper than it is at the back and then has a significant upward kick where it goes over the diffuser. Does the kick serve a purpose in itself or is it more about maximising the volume inside the waterslide to suck in more airflow?

    • @BSport320
      @BSport320  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On some pictures it looks like there is a kick up because everything is curved in this area, but there is no kick. It just ramps down to the floor and stays there. You can see it in the floor picture in this video as well.

    I think Red Bull and Aston Martin are using flexi floors. In case of Aston Martin, rarely do you see a team gain almost 2.5 sec. over winter just by a good base concept.
    Good for them but there's on both cars a trick, that's for sure. Either legal or illegal, we will find out.

He'll cut away any non-performers and doesn't care what people think (eg his team copying other winning designs/formulas) - in his head, the end justifies the means. Yes, it's the "I'm not a bargeboard"-bargeboard.
      But still, it's way simpler than previous bargeboard areas.

    • @rolandotillit2867
      @rolandotillit2867 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BSport320 Red Bull's outer fence looks a lot like Ferrari's 2017 bargeboard main section. Also if you compare all the other teams, Red Bull, Williams, Alpine, and Aston Martin have the outer fence closer to the front wheels than the others.
      Ferrari, Mercedes, and the rest have the outer fences more inboard resulting in a narrower inlet to the floor tunnels.

    • @rolandotillit2867
      @rolandotillit2867 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BSport320 It makes sense if you think about the tunnel vortex, since it is driven by the fences, you'd want to create the biggest pressure differential to make it stronger. So maximizing the volume and flow into the underfloor fences, would create the strongest pressure for the fences to work with.
