    Installed a universal sprocket adapter on the Doodlebug/Baja racer mini bike
    Installed a 66-tooth sprocket and then compared it to a 70-tooth sprocket with a top-speed run.

    Great Mod using the split sprocket and adapter! I've always liked them for quick gearing adjustments. Certainly a 'must have' item for straight axle karts. I never thought about using them on a mini-bike. Great video as always sir!

    Mine has a 5.4-1 ratio, the issue I'm running into is that I want too do what you did adding the split-sprocket, but my hub is a 5 hole instead of a 6 hole 🤔 can't find a 5 hole adapter or even a newer 6 hole rim.🙄 do you have any ideas or point me in a direction that might solve my dilemma?

    I completely restored an old, blown-up and ragged-out Doodle Bug a few years back as a father/son project. It came out great. We also shoehorned in a 212cc Predator engine and went with the split sprocket set-up just like yours. I'm not sure I caught what engine you used, but I was surprised to see you didn't need an adapter plate. What size chain did you use? I can't tell from the video, but we decided to use the beefier, 420 chain size over the stock one, which I believe was size 35, so counting the teeth might not be an accurate comparison of our gear ratios as the distance between each tooth could be different. I can't remember the number of teeth we used, but the diameter of the sprocket was slightly smaller than the stock 35 one and would probably be comparable to your 66 tooth one. The front sprocket would have a bearing on this too of course.
    I'm not certain you didn't run out of road before the bike could reach top speed on the second run. I wouldn't mind the slight loss in 0-30 time with the smaller sprocket, but I would hope for a bit better than a 1 MPH gain in top speed for the sacrifice. The smaller sprocket does have other advantages that might tip the scale though, such as slightly better ground clearance for sharp bumps and spirited left-hand turns.
    Anyway, good luck, have fun, and thanks for the video!

    • @williamedwards7315
      @williamedwards7315 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The best way I know how to get sprockets perfectly aligned is using a string you tie the string tight to one side of the clutch sprocket and then pull it back just beyond the rear sprocket and when you go to lay it on the side of the rear sprocket you can see if the string hits flush at the same time or is off

    looking to purchase a tilly 212 for my doodlebug now with stage 1 upgrades and gov removal. what do you suggest for a good gear ratio?

    • @Black66
      @Black66  ปีที่แล้ว

      5 to 1 or 6 to 1 is a really common ratio .But It really depends on what you want the bike to do. If you want it quick or fast or somewhere in between. I have used many different ratios on this bike and others on the channel. Check out the playlist. Thanks for watching! th-cam.com/video/j39zPwFQOR8/w-d-xo.html

      There is a mark on each half of the sprocket . You line up the marks so the two halves go together the right way. You can put it on numbers in or out
