I have a question about (Mediavine) ads on a blog. I have my own products that I sell on my website (tutorial books, patterns, handmade clothing) but I want to start a blog about my topic on my website as well. My question is: If you sell your own products on your site, is it then still a good idea to go for external ads (like Mediavine) on your blog? Anastasia, let me give you a scenario and get your thoughts. Say I have a bunch of curated posts bringing in a ton of traffic. How would you go about getting accepted by mediavine knowing that they don't want traffic coming from curated posts? My thoughts are that if this is the case, you would build up a following first on pinterest using curated posts and then switch to your own posts now that you have more engagement. After you have a large number of posts of your own, only then should you apply to mediavine. One other point I'll make: make sure that all your posts are long on page. This could mean long posts word wise, it could mean post lots of pictures (3-4), it could mean inserting a video. The reason I say this is because mediavine needs page real estate to serve more ads and they also want a long page so that the person going to your page has to scroll down more leading to more time the ads are served up to the user.
You are absolutely right about the need to make long-form content to make good ad income with Mediavine and high RPM. As for the strategy, yes, curated content is easier to create and generally tends to generate more Pinterest traffic. But it's also true that if your site is ONLY made of curated content, Mediavine will probably reject your application. The solution is creating at least 50-50% of each types of content, and before applying making sure that you get even more of completely original posts, maybe 60-70% even.

Thank you for the idea! I will think about it :) So far, I've been simply creating pins like for my blog posts and using the same Pinterest SEO. Pins linked to my videos on TH-cam get pretty good shares in Tailwind Tribes for whatever reason, even better than pins linked to my site.

Yes, Pinterest recommends having at least 5 boards on your account relevant for each piece of content on your site. For example, you have a post about Farmhouse Decoration Ideas for Christmas. On the image, you have a table centerpiece decorated for Christmas in Farmhouse Style. The first most relevant board you could save it to: 1. Farmhouse Christmas Decor Then you can repin this pin once a day to other boards on your account that could be: 2. Christmas Decor 3. Table Decoration 4. Christmas Ideas 5. Home Decor You probably noticed that out these 5 boards, I left broader boards for the end. I hope this helps :)

Thank you for watching :) It doesn't really matter where you live, what matters is your main traffic sources. Since I get about 90% of traffic from Pinterest, this helps me get the majority of users from the US. On one of my blogs (the newest one), I get about 40% traffic from Google and that is changing the picture a lot in terms of % of the US audience. I get a lot of users from the UK, India and everywhere else where people speak English. That makes it more difficult to apply with that new blog to Mediavine but I'm working on getting a higher share of Pinterest traffic :) On Pinterest, the majority of users live in the US.
Hi, I have a shopify store and tried to activate rich pin and i got the message that it is enabled and active. How do i create products pin in my pinterest account. I tried to pin from my product page, where the pin doesnt take description and the Price in the pin. I see a lot of store have Price $ inside the description. Whats wrong here?
If you'd like me to have a look, feel free to drop a link to any of your pins. I believe Pinterest might still have issues with actually enabling Rich pins on most of the newly verified sites. And if that's the case for your store, you can only contact support complaining that your Rich pins don't actually work even though they show as enabled. While they might reply fast, it's not always the case. So if you don't get the Rich pins, don't worry about them - anyway, you can add pin titles manually, that's what really matters.
Inspirational video! My ultimate goal is to apply for Mediavine ads in the future! I have a question regarding the 'BEST OF ("MY BLOG'S NAME")' board on Pinterest though. Many bloggers have this board and they pin only pins from their blog. My question is, should I pin pins of mine that I really like based on their design or should I pin my best performing pins in there? I hope I made myself clear...
Hi Jim! That really depends on how broadly niched your blog is. If it's focused on one topic, and all your pins could live under the same focus keywords in the board title then it's a great idea to have this "best of"board. When you are just starting out, you don't know what will your best pins be (no analytics yet) - so save the best looking pins, to start with. If you've been blogging for a while and you have some stats on your pins, then go ahead and save your best pins based on engagements and clicks.

Yes, if your website is in English and you attract mostly the audience that lives in the United States, it doesn't matter where you live :) If your site is in Spanish and your audience is mostly in Mexico, that means, you'll have to start with Google Adsense and meanwhile do a research in your language - it's not impossible that you might have some local ad networks that could pay better than Google Adsense.

Hi Anastasia, thanks for your information. Is Mediavine accept site on shopify platform? What kind of ads will be on the website, I didn't see any ads on your website.
To see ads on my site, you need to a) disable ad blocks b) open the categories on my site that are not about blogging, I don't show ads on my blogging and Pinterest-related content because I monetize traffic on those pages way better with my products and affiliate links and I don't want to trade my traffic from those pages to ad clicks. I have other categories on the blog like recipes, diy etc. which I monetize with Mediavine ads. Mediavine can probably accept a Shopify site but why would you do that? If you sell your products on Shopify, you will make more money selling products that sending traffic to the ad network. Shopify and other platforms created a number of technical issues for getting income from Mediavine so even if they accept your site, you'll eventually want to migrate to Wordpress to make more with ads. Shopify is to sell products not as much for building blogs and making ad income.
It pays a little better than Google Adsense (about 1.5-2 times better), it's easy to get accepted you just need 10,000/mo sessions. You are not into a contract with them so you can switch to a premium network at any time when you are ready with the traffic volume and accepted to another company.

I'm doing great with Pinterest and 2 of my accounts are growing well, but run into constant discussions with my boyfriend exactly about the issues you mentioned: low quality traffic and high bounce rate! I will show him this video. One question: I don't think you mentioned it, but do you need to be US based to apply for Mediavine? My sites get well over 80% traffic from the US (and some CA/UK), but I'm not based in the US.
I didn't mention it - but you don't have to live in the US. I live in Portugal and was accepted because 80% of my audience is in the US. CA/UK is also ok if it's not the majority, the main audience should be in the US.

Hi Rebecca! You could try Ezoic and Monumetric when you reach 10k/mo sessions in Google Analytics. Ezoic you can join for free, Monumetric will pay slightly better than Ezoic but they have an upfront $100 fee for setting up the ads on your site.

Hi Anna, Can you make a video on applying for mediavine. I applied for it 40days back but I didn't receive any notification. And I heard that after they approve our application they will ask google analytics reports. Can you show us what to and how to prepare those reports. TIA!!
You fill out the form on mediavine, mediavine will immediately email you with whatever email you put on their form, in their email they will tell you exactly what to do. Essentially you click a link from their email and it takes you to a page on your analytics. You hit a button and it creates a pdf file. You take that pdf file and reply to their email with the pdf file attached. That's it.
Check your Spam folder - you should have received an email with a link to create a Google Analytics report the same day when you created your application. I have to ask Mediavine support if they don't mind me sharing a detailed video about the entire application process and what emails they send etc. Thank you for the idea! :)
Hello Anastasia, do you think that we could improve ranking of pins with ads? I was thinking to promote PIN (the ads url would be the pin), board or profile with ads (using my best pins) but I am not sure if this would work. What are your thoughts on that?
Good question. Unfortunately, promoted views and clicks don't affect the organic pin. I understand you assumed this based on perhaps the way it works with Fb ads. Doesn't work on Pinterest for whatever reason. I tried several times to add my organic pins that started getting a bit of traction, to promote them. They just get average results and don't get viral. But you can certainly test it yourself :)

Hi there. Mediavine does accept social media traffic and even from your promoted ads as long as you reach the 25,000 sessions months (usually around 30,000 pageviews). I suggest applying once you hit that mark.

Hi there! Media.net is for beginner bloggers because it doesn't really have a minimum traffic requirement. However, it does pay really low unless you have tons of traffic already. For mediavine, they require a minimum of 25,000 sessions for you to get approved. However, they are one of the highest paying ad companies for bloggers :)
I am totally lost with this pinterest thing.. I am obviously at the very beginning and am having trouble understanding the whole re-pinning thing, but also noone has ever actually clicked my Pins. I know I am perhaps in a saturated niche (travel blog - tiny niche about only Greece - I am trying to market it that I blog about everything that has to do with Greece totally in depth - all you might ever want to know about - places to visit, culture, food, language etc. you dont have to go to different websites to find) - but perhaps it is a bad idea, or my pins are bad - but noone ever clicks my Pins (I have about 20) at the moment.

I embed videos. Do you mean, you would link from a text to a TH-cam video without giving them the option of watching it inside the post? I think when you embed a video, you a) increase time on page b) still get a video view. So in my opinion, it's best to embed the videos.

@@ellendurkee5444 Do you mean video ads like Mediavine allows you to upload on their platform so you can make additional $ inside the videos? the problem is Mediavine told me you don't want your videos for ads to be longer than 1-2 min. For TH-cam, you don't want your videos to be shorter than 10 min :) If you embed a TH-cam video to your site, you technically still host it on TH-cam so you are getting paid by TH-cam for ads that show up inside your video (if your channel is already monetized).

As I understand it (I may be wrong) but with ads on your own site you're paid for the time that the reader stays on your site, so if you had a video embeded (without ads or even with) would that be better than linking back to youtube. Is using Pinterest still a valuable choice since the platform now prefers advertising? Looks like more challenge to gets traffic from Pinterest without paying for their adverstisment nowsaday..
Is Google still worth it as a traffic source since it has advertising in the top results for the last 10 years? Yes, it's more difficult to get traffic from Google than it was 10 years ago, and yes it's more difficult to get traffic from Pinterest than it was 3 years ago. And it's more difficult to grow on Tiktok than it was even just a year ago. Does it mean we should give up and do nothing? I don't know what your answer is. But my answer is to always keep working and doing what I can in the given situation and not wasting my energy on regrets about things that are out of my control.
The bounce rate doesn't matter, they could see your first page and leave from that page because they found the answer there. The 2 seconds on site is not good though, are you sending them to relevant pages? I've seen short times like this on accounts that send most of the traffic to the home page instead of specific pages relevant to each specific pin. Not your case?
@@AnastasiaBlogger Thank you for your response. I am sending the traffic to a specific product page. I have ran Traffic and Conversion Campaigns. Spended about 1000$ so far. All the traffic is with 90% bounce rante and barely 2-3 seconds. It is very very strange for me because my website is converting very well from Google Ads.
@@armageddonsports1386 Oh, so you are driving traffic with Pinterest ads, not organic pins? Pinterest ads are a bit tricky in this sense. You need to be very clear with your text overlay on the pin to let people who exactly what to expect. If your make your pin too attractive but not quite clear about the outcome of the click, you'll get random clicks because to click from a Promoted pin, they just need to click ONCE on the pin image and voila - they are on your site, you paid for the click. With organic pins, users will first do a close-up, open the pin in a bigger size, read your pin title and description and then decide if they want to click-through.
I am sorry but there is a mistake in the video which is we need 80% traffic from USA.I personally emails to adthrive who says that majority means more than 50% let's say 55%.
What do you think about group boards and tailwind? Are these necessary for Pinterest's success or can we leave them behind? I am currently in 15 group boards and I have one of my own. I used to have 30 but I'm slowly removing the group boards and I am not seeing a significant influx in my clicks or views. Hi there. Group boards should not be your primary strategy. Pinterest made it clear that since about the middle of 2018, they reduced the distribution of pins on group boards. It's best to focus on building your own boards, a lot of them on your own account. Spend at least 90% of all your efforts building your own boards and only about 10% of your time trying to apply for quality group boards.
Traffic from Pinterest is generally good but maybe Google traffic would give you people closer to the "action" stage, since you mentioned you are a CPA marketer.
@@sbjason9678 Not only paid Google traffic, I think in general users on Google are looking for specific things (hence the long-tail keywords) and on Pinterest they are looking for a general idea, or multiple options for their generic request (hence, on Pinterest 75% of all queries are just 1-3 words long).
Can i create multiple pins ( 10 - 20) for same blog post? Can i save them in same boards or multiple related boards? If i can, what should be the time interval for posting them? Hi there! Yes, you can create multiple pins and save them to 5 relevant boards or more. I recommend saving only 1 pin linked to the same page URL on your site to be safe from spam filters.
Just one board name? :) You will need 30 - 50 -100 boards if you want to see a real success on Pinterest. But you could start with a board called Fitness tips for example :)

Pinterest is slowly transforming into a search engine (they started this proccess on 2014 with smart feed) and logically that kind of pins will not gain engagement. I have an account with 1.3 million monthy viewers, but very low engagement, probably because all the pins are dublicated from the pnterest.

What do you mean by engagement on your pins? Close-ups? Clicks? What is the objective of your account? I always recommend focusing on traffic that goest from Pinterest to your website. Pinterest gives priority distribution to the pins linked to your claimed domain.
Are people searching for memes? I mean, usually they are shared as viral content. So that's what you should be hoping for on Pinterest, I don't think there is a high search volume for mems, but you definitiley know your niche better than I do :) I am not really sure that a big % of the Pinterest audience is interested in memes.

Поэтому не вижу большого смысла рассказывать русскоязычной аудитории о платформе, которой мало кто пользуется на русском. А рассказывать про продвижение в буржунете на русском языке тоже не вижу смысла, если человек делает сайт на английском, то и мои видео, наверное, будет достаточно понятными. Я не закрываю для себя эту возможность навсегда, но если честно, я предвижу оооочень мало аудитории для видео про Пинтерест на русском языке.

Thank you for the idea! I will think about it :) So far, I've been simply creating pins like for my blog posts and using the same Pinterest SEO. Pins linked to my videos on TH-cam get pretty good shares in Tailwind Tribes for whatever reason, even better than pins linked to my site.

Yes, Pinterest recommends having at least 5 boards on your account relevant for each piece of content on your site.
For example, you have a post about Farmhouse Decoration Ideas for Christmas. On the image, you have a table centerpiece decorated for Christmas in Farmhouse Style.
The first most relevant board you could save it to:
1. Farmhouse Christmas Decor
Then you can repin this pin once a day to other boards on your account that could be:
2. Christmas Decor
3. Table Decoration
4. Christmas Ideas
5. Home Decor
You probably noticed that out these 5 boards, I left broader boards for the end.

Thank you for watching :) It doesn't really matter where you live, what matters is your main traffic sources. Since I get about 90% of traffic from Pinterest, this helps me get the majority of users from the US. On one of my blogs (the newest one), I get about 40% traffic from Google and that is changing the picture a lot in terms of % of the US audience. I get a lot of users from the UK, India and everywhere else where people speak English. That makes it more difficult to apply with that new blog to Mediavine but I'm working on getting a higher share of Pinterest traffic :) On Pinterest, the majority of users live in the US.
Hi, I have a shopify store and tried to activate rich pin and i got the message that it is enabled and active. How do i create products pin in my pinterest account. I tried to pin from my product page, where the pin doesnt take description and the Price in the pin. I see a lot of store have Price $ inside the description. Whats wrong here?
If you'd like me to have a look, feel free to drop a link to any of your pins. I believe Pinterest might still have issues with actually enabling Rich pins on most of the newly verified sites. And if that's the case for your store, you can only contact support complaining that your Rich pins don't actually work even though they show as enabled. While they might reply fast, it's not always the case. So if you don't get the Rich pins, don't worry about them - anyway, you can add pin titles manually, that's what really matters.
Inspirational video! My ultimate goal is to apply for Mediavine ads in the future! I have a question regarding the 'BEST OF ("MY BLOG'S NAME")' board on Pinterest though. Many bloggers have this board and they pin only pins from their blog. My question is, should I pin pins of mine that I really like based on their design or should I pin my best performing pins in there? I hope I made myself clear...
Hi Jim! That really depends on how broadly niched your blog is. If it's focused on one topic, and all your pins could live under the same focus keywords in the board title then it's a great idea to have this "best of"board. When you are just starting out, you don't know what will your best pins be (no analytics yet) - so save the best looking pins, to start with. If you've been blogging for a while and you have some stats on your pins, then go ahead and save your best pins based on engagements and clicks.

Hi, Ameyalli! Yes, if your website is in English and you attract mostly the audience that lives in the United States, it doesn't matter where you live :) If your site is in Spanish and your audience is mostly in Mexico, that means, you'll have to start with Google Adsense and meanwhile do a research in your language - it's not impossible that you might have some local ad networks that could pay better than Google Adsense.

And it's hard to rank on Google with a new site, I honestly recommend everyone who is just starting online to focus first on Pinterest to get the first boost and traffic.
Hi Anastasia, thanks for your information. Is Mediavine accept site on shopify platform? What kind of ads will be on the website, I didn't see any ads on your website.
To see ads on my site, you need to a) disable ad blocks b) open the categories on my site that are not about blogging, I don't show ads on my blogging and Pinterest-related content because I monetize traffic on those pages way better with my products and affiliate links and I don't want to trade my traffic from those pages to ad clicks. I have other categories on the blog like recipes, diy etc. which I monetize with Mediavine ads.
Mediavine can probably accept a Shopify site but why would you do that? If you sell your products on Shopify, you will make more money selling products that sending traffic to the ad network. Shopify and other platforms created a number of technical issues for getting income from Mediavine so even if they accept your site, you'll eventually want to migrate to Wordpress to make more with ads. Shopify is to sell products not as much for building blogs and making ad income.
how about ezoic?
It pays a little better than Google Adsense (about 1.5-2 times better), it's easy to get accepted you just need 10,000/mo sessions. You are not into a contract with them so you can switch to a premium network at any time when you are ready with the traffic volume and accepted to another company.

One question: I don't think you mentioned it, but do you need to be US based to apply for Mediavine? My sites get well over 80% traffic from the US (and some CA/UK), but I'm not based in the US.
I didn't mention it - but you don't have to live in the US. I live in Portugal and was accepted because 80% of my audience is in the US. CA/UK is also ok if it's not the majority, the main audience should be in the US.

Hi Rebecca! You could try Ezoic and Monumetric when you reach 10k/mo sessions in Google Analytics. Ezoic you can join for free, Monumetric will pay slightly better than Ezoic but they have an upfront $100 fee for setting up the ads on your site.

Can you make a video on applying for mediavine. I applied for it 40days back but I didn't receive any notification. And I heard that after they approve our application they will ask google analytics reports. Can you show us what to and how to prepare those reports.

You fill out the form on mediavine, mediavine will immediately email you with whatever email you put on their form, in their email they will tell you exactly what to do. Essentially you click a link from their email and it takes you to a page on your analytics. You hit a button and it creates a pdf file. You take that pdf file and reply to their email with the pdf file attached. That's it.
Check your Spam folder - you should have received an email with a link to create a Google Analytics report the same day when you created your application. I have to ask Mediavine support if they don't mind me sharing a detailed video about the entire application process and what emails they send etc. Thank you for the idea! :)
Hello Anastasia, do you think that we could improve ranking of pins with ads? I was thinking to promote PIN (the ads url would be the pin), board or profile with ads (using my best pins) but I am not sure if this would work. What are your thoughts on that?
Good question. Unfortunately, promoted views and clicks don't affect the organic pin. I understand you assumed this based on perhaps the way it works with Fb ads. Doesn't work on Pinterest for whatever reason. I tried several times to add my organic pins that started getting a bit of traction, to promote them. They just get average results and don't get viral. But you can certainly test it yourself :)

Hi there. Mediavine does accept social media traffic and even from your promoted ads as long as you reach the 25,000 sessions months (usually around 30,000 pageviews). I suggest applying once you hit that mark.

There are no premium ad plans on Mediavine like Ezoic. I would look at the Mediavine RPM challenge to maximise your revenue.

Hi there! Media.net is for beginner bloggers because it doesn't really have a minimum traffic requirement. However, it does pay really low unless you have tons of traffic already. For mediavine, they require a minimum of 25,000 sessions for you to get approved. However, they are one of the highest paying ad companies for bloggers :)

I am totally lost with this pinterest thing.. I am obviously at the very beginning and am having trouble understanding the whole re-pinning thing, but also noone has ever actually clicked my Pins. I embed videos. Do you mean, you would link from a text to a TH-cam video without giving them the option of watching it inside the post? I think when you embed a video, you a) increase time on page b) still get a video view. So in my opinion, it's best to embed the videos.

@@ellendurkee5444 Do you mean video ads like Mediavine allows you to upload on their platform so you can make additional $ inside the videos? the problem is Mediavine told me you don't want your videos for ads to be longer than 1-2 min. For TH-cam, you don't want your videos to be shorter than 10 min :)
If you embed a TH-cam video to your site, you technically still host it on TH-cam so you are getting paid by TH-cam for ads that show up inside your video (if your channel is already monetized).

As I understand it (I may be wrong) but with ads on your own site you're paid for the time that the reader stays on your site, so if you had a video embeded (without ads or even with) would that be better than linking back to youtube. Bounce rate on PInterest is actually 95% and time on site is 2 seconds...
The bounce rate doesn't matter, they could see your first page and leave from that page because they found the answer there. The 2 seconds on site is not good though, are you sending them to relevant pages? I've seen short times like this on accounts that send most of the traffic to the home page instead of specific pages relevant to each specific pin. Not your case?

All the traffic is with 90% bounce rante and barely 2-3 seconds. It is very very strange for me because my website is converting very well from Google Ads.
@@armageddonsports1386 Oh, so you are driving traffic with Pinterest ads, not organic pins? Pinterest ads are a bit tricky in this sense. You need to be very clear with your text overlay on the pin to let people who exactly what to expect. If your make your pin too attractive but not quite clear about the outcome of the click, you'll get random clicks because to click from a Promoted pin, they just need to click ONCE on the pin image and voila - they are on your site, you paid for the click. With organic pins, users will first do a close-up, open the pin in a bigger size, read your pin title and description and then decide if they want to click-through.
I am sorry but there is a mistake in the video which is we need 80% traffic from USA.I personally emails to adthrive who says that majority means more than 50% let's say 55%.

Hi there. Group boards should not be your primary strategy. Pinterest made it clear that since about the middle of 2018, they reduced the distribution of pins on group boards.
It's best to focus on building your own boards, a lot of them on your own account. Spend at least 90% of all your efforts building your own boards and only about 10% of your time trying to apply for quality group boards.

Traffic from Pinterest is generally good but maybe Google traffic would give you people closer to the "action" stage, since you mentioned you are a CPA marketer.

Hi there! Yes, you can create multiple pins and save them to 5 relevant boards or more. I recommend saving only 1 pin linked to the same page URL on your site to be safe from spam filters.

Just one board name? :) You will need 30 - 50 -100 boards if you want to see a real success on Pinterest. But you could start with a board called Fitness tips for example :)

К сожалению, в русскоязычном Интернете Пинтерест пока не настолько популярен, насколько мне известно. Поэтому не вижу большого смысла рассказывать русскоязычной аудитории о платформе, которой мало кто пользуется на русском. А рассказывать про продвижение в буржунете на русском языке тоже не вижу смысла, если человек делает сайт на английском, то и мои видео, наверное, будет достаточно понятными.
Я не закрываю для себя эту возможность навсегда, но если честно, я предвижу оооочень мало аудитории для видео про Пинтерест на русском языке.
