Thank you Hugo, this is great!! I used to speak a little German back in college but if you don't use it consistently, you lose it which is a shame. Thank you again for this translation.
Truly remarkable engines, Chris! So unique and detailed. Love the whistles! Very European sound from another era. It reminds of the British WWII movies that show up on t.v. now and them. Very special model engines, for sure. And what a fantastic gift from your wife! If this is to be the last video for 2021, have a great Christmas Holiday season with family and friends. Looking forward to more in the New Year!
Great looking locomotives Chris, they really are beautiful and I love all the brass piping, trim, etc. Both very cool! Thanks for sharing and have a safe, blessed holiday season.
Hey from Germany ✌🏻 I love your videos 😁 The dialogue from the S 3/6 says 10:20 “(Name), Ich brauche noch mehr Achslageröl” that means “(name), I still need more axle bearing oil”
Wow, great video Chris. Being new to the hobby I did wonder why there were so many rare trains, and why so many limited run trains. It makes sense now that you have explained it like that. My first train engine was a GE legacy that was built to order by our friends at Train World. Our Pennsylvania S1 trains will certainly be a treasured piece to any collection. Merry Christmas my friend and the very best wishes to the new year.
Chris, thank you for another wonderful video! It's great to see how your layout has evolved and these European locomotives are both wonderful. The green locomotive is my favorite of the two but both are wonderful. I enjoy your channel and enthusiasm! Merry Christmas to you and your family and looking forward to railroading with you next year. Take care man!
Hi Chris. I enjoy your videos even though I'm a Märklin HO operator and collector in the USA for many decades now. European O Guage was popular (mostly with rich folks) before WWII. After the war Märklin HO and other brands took off. Don't forget, European homes are much smaller than ours in general back then. These are beautiful models. I have the Märklin HO BR18. It's a fabulous Lok. Cheers and Happy Holidays.
Beautiful engines! Yeah, the whistles seem a little odd by American standards, but in an odd way they work on European ones. Makes me think of mystery, espionage, Hercule Poirot and James Bond, know what I mean? I'm not surprised they, like so many other MTH or Lionel products, are hard to find. The "hot" items get snapped up quick and then take years to resurface. I wanted a Jersey Central Camelbck for years, MTH or Lionel, it didn't matter, but you just don't see them anywhere. I finally found a Lionel CNJ Camel, paid more for it than I wanted to but as I said, you just don't see them. They disappear quickly! Fun video! By the way, if you've never seen "Murder On The Orient Express," the GOOD one from 1974, do so! Great European steam action in that one! Ever see a steam engine "waltz" out of the station? You will in this film!
The discrepancy of differing scales in O gauge comes down to the gauge of what we call 'O scale'. Technically speaking, 1/43 is most accurate because that fits the gauge of our accepted "O gauge" rails. For quarter inch scale (1/48th) our rails should be about 1/8th" closer together, this is where the Proto 48 guys come in. They stick with 1/4 inch scale which forces the rail gauge to be adjusted closer together for consistency. They recognize that our accepted O gauge track is actually too wide for true O scale (unless we build slightly larger models like 1/43rd). A Big Boy in 1/43rd scale would be approximately 1 1/8" longer and of course a bit taller and wider, it would be kind of cool. European makers recognized this and in order to keep the accepted gauge of rail, they built in 1/43rd and 1/45th to accommodate the commonly available track systems in both Europe and America. This accepted O gauge track of course started out in the toy train market way back around the turn of the previous century with Lionel and Marklin seemingly coming to an agreed upon gauge. However, 1/43rd, 1/45th and 1/48th ARE close enough to enjoy running together so enjoy!! Beautiful locomotives!!! I too love those whistles, they sound a bit like little Pennsy B6 switchers.
just got back from NL and BE. there's a number of train museums in both countries. less wheels on the trucks = less friction, faster you can go. The Thalys has that setup and it goes 180 mph. Love that train. Of course the driver and conductor on your locos are wearing a collar and tie in a doggone hot a heck. It's Europe.
Hi Chris , I just came across your station . Its the greatest .. I subscribed .. because its you that presents so great..I love your ability to keep the watcher so amused. Your layout is beautiful ( but i'll bet you want to make it bigger..always huh) and I love your passion and happiness that comes through ... Keep the shows coming and keep your great ways ... you are better than the people on cable tv .. the so called professionals ... Dont know what you do but if its in communications, i can see that.. thumbs up to you, friend! Im on board.
The French Pacific hauled La Flêche d'Or (Golden Arrow) a CIWL Pullman Express that ran from Calais to Paris & your German K.Bay Sts Pacific, hauled The Orient Express across Bavaria & through to Vienna..
I like that Bavarian steam locomotive! It was also offered in a handsome blue livery! MTH had a phenomenal amount of trains in their catalog, and these European models went above and beyond expectations!
Honestly can we just give Chris a round of applause for finding these because I looked forever and only found three European o gauge steamers so nice job rbp. 👏👏👏
I absolutely love this channel! I am one of your biggest fans and have binge watched your videos for several weeks now! Any chance you could make a video showing all of your streamlined steam locomotives, making them go as fast as they can around the layout? Btw I suggest you get the Union Pacific 49er, the Dreyfuss Hudson, the Reading Crusader and the Penn RR bullet nosed streamlined steam locomotive with wheel skirts that wrap around the bottom of the engine. Ty From Cory
Thanks Cory! You put a lot of trains on my list, haha. I have the Dreyfuss and the PRR Torpedo lined up for some upcoming videos. Need to check on the others you suggested to see where I can find them. Thanks for watching!
Take it from me, some of those engines can go so fast they'll fly out the nearest window if you're not carefull! I turned one of my MTH "Generals" loose on the layout with a "I wonder how fast it'll go?" urge and luckily it landed on a chair when it went airborne!

Hi rbp. This is Cory I am back to suggest you get the b and o Royal blue streamlined steam locomotive and the Chicago and north western streamlined Hudson.

The prices for MTH DCS equipment are insane right now because of MTH "going out of business." I use Lionel Fastrack for my layout. I would recommend Atlas, Gargraves if you are able but Fastrack is plentiful and easy to work with. I had purchased this track as the layout on the channel was on my carpeted floor for some time. I used Fastrack as it was durable on my carpet. It works well but is more noisy due to the plastic and less prototypical for more serious modelers. Thanks for watching!
It's all three, but here's the thing. Remember, it's YOUR layout! You can make it as simple or as elaborate as you choose, there's no "right or wrong" here. My layout is very simple, three closed loops, no switches, and and assortment of buildings just to give it a little "depth." My layout really just serves to exercise the collection. The key thing is to get started. Like the Nike ad says, "Just do it!"
I prefer the MTH smoke fluid as well. In my experience, it has a much stronger scent and produces more smoke than other brands. I would love to translate what these engines are saying but I have only ever taken Spanish and Chinese!

Definitely want some European o gauge but i can't find anything at shows
Would you say good highly detailed layout is produced from time and work or money.
Those two are the most beautiful engines I've seen too bad that you're selling the Orient Express one that should be a keeper 👍👍
I wish I could have purchase both but the Orient Express will go to a great home! Thanks for watching!
Hi Chris, the Bavarian engine says "ich brauch noch mehr Achslageröl" - "I need more
axle bearing oil" 😄
Thanks Sven!
I just bought an HO MTH S 3/6 I love it!!
Chris merry Christmas! From bill gartners son -Jason hope you all doing well!
Merry Christmas Jason! Do you have an email? If you are on Instagram hit me there. Been wanting to catch up!
Totor, wir brauchen mehr achslangerol! Totor! We need more axle oil!
I prefer the MTH smoke fluid as well. In my experience, it has a much stronger scent and produces more smoke than other brands. I would love to translate what these engines are saying but I have only ever taken Spanish and Chinese!
Smoke alarms: THESE ARE BAND FROM THE HOUSE
GRATE VIDEO!
The EURO models are gorgeous. I wish mth did some Italian engines
