Freezing your bag of rice as soon as you bring it home from the store and leaving it in the freezer for at least four days will kill the adult bugs and possibly their eggs. (freezer time may vary upon the research you do) It’s your personal choice what you fill your gnomes with. Just have fun making them!
You can also mix some food-grade diatomaceous earth in with the rice and it will kill any type of bugs and their eggs. It is non-toxic and I use it all the time. If it is windy, I cover my mouth when applying it because it is a fine powder. Also, I mix it with water and use it as a spray.

Exactly what I was thinking! Thrift stores is the way to go and if you do mess up, you don't feel as bad as you would if you paid the ridiculous price for the fur at the fabric store! I wish I had seen this before Halloween to take advantage of any fur costumes they might have had.
This is an excellent project for those of us who are on a tight budget. I know that she said that the faux fur is expensive, but you could find it at a thrift store. Either as part of something else, or in the spot where they have bits and pieces of material etc., also the socks, as well as other items that you may not have on hand. Sometimes it's possible to find these items brand new, still in the original packaging, for a fraction of the original price! Taking advantage of the dollar stores is an excellent idea too. You can add things like feet, spectacles, as well as creating girl gnomes by putting hair in the back, to start with, or maybe make a couple of yarn braids (also taking advantage of the thrift store for materials). I enjoyed this tutorial, helped me get into the holiday spirit a little bit! May your Holidays be as good as they possibly can for all of us, this has been a difficult year for all people no matter what you believe! 🙋♥️🏵️🌾🍂🍁🍂🌾🏵️✌🏾💪🏾😷☯️

Best gnome making video EVER! Thank you for sharing! ❤ That are so adorable! I watch the clearance bin at Joann's all the time for fur and I FINALLY scored a few days ago! I am super excited to make these with my granddaughters!
I fill the cup with rice & put the sock over & just turn it upside down so it all goes it without possibly falling out :) thanks for sharing!! Making a few tomorrow!
Finally someone made a version I can do! Thank you
This is the best video on making a Christmas Gnome! Your voice is soothing & I, even with my bad hearing, on my cell phone, can understand all your words. Thanks for the rubber band & twine idea. Often we need to use rubber bands to hold but over time they fall apart. Using twine is so smart!
I REALLY ENJOYED WATCHING ON HOW YOU MADE THE CHRISTMAS GNOMES, THEY ARE ADORABLE. I WILL TRY IT AND PRAY MINE COME OUT HALF AS CUTE AS YOURS.
THANK YOU FOR SUCH A CUTE AND GREAT IDEA AND YOU ARE A GREAT TEACHER ALSO!!!!
What a cute idea thanks for sharing your project.
One more thing I forgot to mention in my other comment.....I absolutely loved the way you fell in love with that little guy in your tutorial each step of the way. Too cute!!!
wow very nice. Congrats! Thanks for giving this for us.
Cute to place a pair of mini sunglasses on his nose
Zztop
And if you can not find sunglasses, grab in the greeting card section the sunglasses stickers. Stick to card stock paper, cut out to size and one Dan of hot glue between the eyes and glasses will stick
Only just seen this. Wow love the gnomes. It was so therapeutic to watch. I agree with the other person. You should do some meditation videos. Your voice is very calming. Thanks from the UK.
Thank you so much for your kind comments!
So cute! Ya know what might be nice is to put some spices like cinnamon sticks and cloves in with the rice. Then he will be cute and smell good too! :)
Excellent idea!!!
Love that idea!!!
That's a brilliant idea!!! Thanks. I'm going to do that.
Smartest idea ever. If you add a bay leaf to the mix the bugs will stay away too

These are so cute..I bought one last year, now I ca make my own. Thank you so much for sharing and for great instructions too. As soon as I send this off I am going to subscribe. Look forward to other items you make. Have a Blessed day.
This is one of the cutest tutorials I've seen,....you have inspired a 45 year floral designer ....old dog new fun trick...thank you...I'm gonna make some for my friends........I think......maybe just one for sure...but thanks...
You could also go to thrift store and look for fur rugs, coats, vest, or even plush animals
Plush stuffed toys is genius! Once you take it apart you have stuffing and fur, maybe even some eyes for other projects! Thanks!
Great idea!
Exactly what I was thinking! Thrift stores is the way to go and if you do mess up, you don't feel as bad as you would if you paid the ridiculous price for the fur at the fabric store! I wish I had seen this before Halloween to take advantage of any fur costumes they might have had.
Wonderful idea. Recycle, reuse, upcycle what the current word of the day is. My time, keep all scraps, look for cheap/free items to re-invent.
The cheapest pillow at Walmart for the fluff!
