@@barrycroft238 it was stupid, but then I remember things I did when I was 20, and I'm glad there's no video. Hope she and the team shy away from doing that again. I think they'll continue to get smarter as they gain experience.
So very glad you are okay. As a former fireman, I have suffered smoke inhalation and know how horrible it is. You looked great up until the fire. Winning will come. But you are more important than the race. Hope you feel better soon.

@@xThunderMelonx that's why it's pretty clear you've never actually been in a bad fire if you don't get this, it is extremely scary and when you race with things like we do and drag racing you can't even see the fire when it's lit I had a methanol fire and didn't even know it was on fire until I felt the heat that's why you wear a 20 layer suit but that only gives you 20 seconds if they don't get you out before that it starts burning you and I can tell you it starts to hurt a lot sooner than 20 seconds luckily just my hands and feet when it happened to me because they only had five layer protection so I could move them easier racing.. I don't know what kind of fuel they use but I know it doesn't really matter once you're on fire
This is why I love Deegan and Chase blogging the races, you get to see behind the scenes stuff u don’t see on TV. I didn’t realize it was that bad when I saw it, but I was wrong. Glad to see u okay
You have many years to perfect yourself as a driver. Now is the time to learn every race, practice and even lap. Watching you from carts to trucks back to cars and not to mention a race at the Freedom Factory every once and a while you show you are a real Racer. Keep your head up the good times will come.
I worked pit road security for all 3 races this past weekend. I will gladly say that I’m very happy and proud to have worked with such an amazing group of people who were on top of things and made sure everyone was safe. Granted it was very cool to see you, chase, and numerous other people, it was even better to see you safe. And that goes for all the drivers, pit crew, etc.
This is why the crew should always listen to their driver, when they say something is wrong, something is wrong!

Same thing happened in F1 with Verstappen and the Redbull team. He kept exclaiming something was wrong and ended up with a dead car with like 2-3 laps to go.

The redbull team knew there was and issue but not necessarily what it was or how to fix it . F1 teams often don't tell drivers about technical issues straight away they try to find a solution first.
Yeah. Girl has been racing for over a decade. She has off road experience, lots of it. You learn when things aren’t right but it’s fine until you get to service and when things aren’t right and you need to stop NOW. When they kept saying it’s just rubber all I could think is stop acting like she’s a hysterical woman, she’s an experienced race driver, fucking listen!
That smoke from burning rubber is bad enough on its own, but adding the fire extinguisher is even worse. I've inhaled both at once before and it absolutely removes any ounce of breath from your body. You did the right thing getting out of there. Good job on sensing something was wrong early on too. Certainly was sad to see it end that way, but definitely glad you're alright, all things considered.
I once inhaled halon on accident. We put out a grease fire

the pit should have noticed the frame was bent and catching the tire. It was also making it so she had no speed compared to the other trucks. The fire was just the end result of the frame constantly catching the tire over several laps after the crash. These trucks need more clearance in the wheel
Teams should really listen to their drivers more. I'm glad your gut told you something was wrong and you continued to let them know about it. We're all glad you're ok. You have a very bright future in the sport.
Girl. You did incredible considering what had happened. Don't let that put you down the hole. Just know that there are some big timers that would've quit when their backs were feeling warm. You pushed through better than I feel anyone else could have. Glad your safe. Feel better

Damn, that really was! I don't know about procedures, but I hope NASCAR takes notes. Getting the smoke and extinguisher into your airbox sounds like a very dangerous combination. I'm not sure what the quick fix would be?
She'll probably have a cough for a couple days. I can't help but think of Nikki Lauda, even though he suffered a 100x worse to his lungs.

So, so glad you're okay. It IS so hard to get over that "can't breath" feeling after dealing with burning rubber & fire extinguisher. It's a shame your new suit got soot damaged, but I'm sure glad you're in Alpinestar gear! Great instincts about the heat on your back. Follow your gut.
It really was sweet to see the crew chief sweep you up in his arms to get you behind the box. I just wish the rescue team had gotten you on O2 much sooner.

Man, glad you're Ok... that was scary ****! As someone who has caught on fire before it's one of the most terrifying ordeals you can experience in life. I would Def. go see a respiratory therapist and get you're whole system checked! The carcinogens in the carcass/tub and surrounding composites while burning is bad enough but adding the extinguisher chemicals in with it can really mess with you're whole respiratory system. Take care and heal!

Time to get a new crew cheif and spotter, listen to your drivers people. This could have gone real Bad.
@@kc72186 It could have, but it didn't. That's the good thing. It's a learning experience for everyone, and throwing away a crew chief and spotter who just learned that valuable lesson that wound up only costing the race would make that lesson a waste.

I've served on the safety crew at a local dirt track, for about 10 years, and I will tell you anytime there is smoke coming from a car there is a different sense of urgency that you get that separates from any other form of wreck. You definitely run a little faster and first and foremost yank that driver to safety. I'm really glad that it did not turn out worse smoke inhalation can be a very dangerous thing so rest up heal up get back to the track.
She should have been out of there even sooner! If only her spotter had listened to her.
@@QQuincyyy there's more too it but both the pit crew and spotter were trying to see if they could see anything while talking on the second channel. but burning left over tire from a flat is pretty normal and short lived. but it wasn't until she began slowing down that the flames became visible. either way the lesson learned from this is that the tire changers may need to work on checking for excessive rubber stuck under the truck after a flat even if it means a slightly slower stop.

This sucks big time. I wish you a healthy and speedy recovery. Smoke inhalation is no joke. Also sucks to see the team kinda panicked and didn't know what to do. Hopefully some procedures get put in place for future scenarios like this to assist the driver strait away. Glad you are okay, keep up the hard work and dedication.
the safety of the driver should be the absolute first priority of any crew......the truck/car can be replaced.......the driver is a different story........
Mike Hillman Jr. the crew chief in this case had his head on straight, he needs to teach that to his crew!
Props to your pit guys for lifting you up and carrying you to a safer spot. Those guys surrounded YOU and were there for you not the car. That is a winning team. Keep getting after it!
I'm so glad you're OK after that fire. It's good that you recognized that there was a problem quickly and were doing whatever you could to improve things. The TV coverage showed very little of your ordeal, so I'm very grateful for Chase and Miller getting full video coverage of the event. I sounded like the (pit) crew was almost more concerned for the truck than for you. God Bless and stay safe, and best of luck at COTA.

Don’t get down. You can’t see the blue sky’s when it’s raining but they are still there! I’ve seen a lot of racing over my years and a lot of drivers. You young lady have what it takes and I know your results will start to show just how talented you are real soon!! Stay positive we all believe in you.

Glad to see you are okay. Unfortunately, the crew and Crew Chief made a few costly mistakes, that could have seriously impacted your health and well-being.
Their delay on getting her out was BS. They should have had people worrying about the fire, with the ones standing there getting her the hell out.
Fire...should be automatic extraction. As a driver her instinct should have been realized. I believe the crew chief was negligent. Glad all is OK. It's called a gut feeling for a reason.
Be in a situation like that once for real and then come back and comment again, please. Racing is cutthroat and things like this are a part of it. The team handled as they saw fit and they have had their evaluation of it, I am sure. Please don't be a backseat driver.... I am just glad Hailie got out of there without any serious or lasting injuries. She's still No 1!
@@danmaardeze, I have been in that situation for real (on the side of the fire extinguisher) and agree with Steve Kaluf. A fire away from the driver, you get the driver out first and foremost, then you worry about the fire.

Great racing! This one had me a little emotional lol. Your crew needs to keep your safety the number one priority. You having to get out of a burning truck with no help is rediculous. Onto the next one!
Well honestly the drivers test every race to make sure they can get out of the car in a time frame she should have gotten out herself. You can’t put the blame on the crew or crew chief especially if somthing did happen to her. Her crew chief isn’t by her she smelled smoke the crew chief said fire it’s on her at that point.

I once suffered mild smoke inhalation years ago. Yes, my throat was raw for days afterwards. I feel ya, lady. Don't let this setback stop you. Now you know that if you feel something is wrong, most likely there is. A driver knows the car in ways others don't. I'm pulling for ya.
As a recent victim of a Fire Extinguisher incident (working in a yarn spinning plant, a lotta things can happen unexpectedly), I can relate to the pain.

That is hands down the most crazy thing ive ever seen happen in a race. Musta been burning for a few laps. thankful your okay and next time theres something that might be burning, you know its worth checking out. Once again it wasn't the drivers fault.

All you little fan boys don’t know racing at all you just see what she post and it’s sickening how you white knights always on her side even when she is in the wrong 85 percent of the time. It was on her to get out. Her spotter can only do so much from being so far away and MOST people when a fire starts are fine and don’t react like she did. She’s a big girl who put her big girl fire suit on she needs to figure it out because so far she has be awful.
Sure glad you made it outta that fire okay. I've followed your pops for years and is my " motor cross hero" and now you are definitely my favorite female racer. Hopefully one day I will get the chance to meet you both. Being disabled without a vehicle is a bit hard to get to a race lol prayers for your up coming races.

Glad your ok this shows the importance of your pit crew and EMS and track officials communication which is important for safety
Glad all is well and you will be here to race another day, not sure how the trucks are with net latches but on our drag cars my latches are punch to release. Leaves one less thing to try to push a little latch when in panic or cant breathe situation, stay safe and good luck on the next one

I've been in a similar position my skin was all burnt 2nd degree i didnt have the proper gear on thankfully it didn't scar me for life a year later I was back to my old self and got over the ptsd, im glad you're doing okay! Just gotta stay positive and be thankful it wasn't worse
Virtue of being small is how easy the complete UNITS on the crew can hoist you to some fresh air. Lads look like they'd make a pretty formidable offensive line. Good protection on this play fellas.

Same thing happened to Danica Patrick at Montreal years ago she kept saying something was broken after hitting that's shoe and she lost a bracket or something and lost track position and the race
Your team let you down. They should of called you in when you said you were on fire. The team needs to stop treating you like a child and more like a racecar driver.
-- I'm a PSC. Some years back I ran into a burning brownstone in Chicago to rescue a mother's kids (so you know in advance, no one was in there, and no one died, but the building burnt to the bricks).
19 years para-military at the time, took me 5 minutes in that building to realize I am NO firefighter. Might have been 3 days before I was breathing right.
Anyways I'm glad you're ok. Those kinds of fumes is no bonfire on the beach. What you had burning in that vehicle would have put you in a serious hurt, death, or life long cripple in under a minute.

It’s amazing the Saftey in the sport has come this far. Back in the 1960s, championship driver firewall Roberts was racing at Charlotte when he spun trying to avoid a wreck. He smashed into the wall and his car exploded. Roberts ended up dying six weeks later while he was in the hospital. Glad you’re OK.
