Who would have thought that unaffordable housing, expensive food, low wages and long working hours might mean people have fewer kids.

There are two big reasons for most people choosing to stay childless: the current generation simply cannot afford to (no PTO for new parents in a realistic time frame, if you’re American especially it’s way too expensive to even give birth???, most young people live in apartments, the list goes on and on), and with the current conditions of the world (war, climate change, more frequent natural disasters, frequency of shootings in America, etc etc). As I become older, I would love to start a family with my partner but it is simply not a responsible option at this point. We’d be incredible parents, but the fact that we would be responsible is the reason holding us both back. We’ve decided to foster/adopt a bit later in life so we are actually able to be better parents to our children. You can look at other countries that offer better resources for new parents and they don’t have the same declining birth rates or negative views on parenthood.

Yeah I would have to agree, this is definitely more of an issue in countries like the US and the UK, where costs and current conditions make it tough.
I do feel like there are two groups of people in this situation. The first is people like us who would love to have kids, but logically, it’s just not the best move right now, even though like you mentioning we’d be fantastic parents, with access to resources and more in comparison to previous generations.
Then there’s the second group, who are people who have made a conscious decision to stay child-free altogether. Some recent examples I can think of from the top of my head who have been vocal about this is John Cena and Seth Rogan - even though these are celebrities, I have noticed a similar sort of mentality with some people, who are just ordinary people that feel a lack of incentive to have children.
Also I respect your decision to foster/adopt later, I’m sure you guys will make for great parents based on your comment alone
      I appreciate the insight🤝

I would point out that there is a basic biological urge to have children outside of social pressures or norms. Humans are animals, and all animals have an instinctual desire to reproduce.
Obviously, humans are not slaves to their instincts the way animals are. However, it is still a factor in why people want to have kids.

I see what you're saying and you're right - there always has been that basic biological drive to reproduce that hasn't really changed. I guess my video was more focused on the cultural shifts on why people are choosing to have fewer kids nowadays.
Because while the instinct to have children is still there, it's just interesting to see how modern pressures, norms and personal decisions are reshaping how people respond to that instinct.
