- CoinWeek's Cool Coins! returns with our second episode of 2019. In this clip, we talk to Allen Rowe of Northern Nevada Coin, Harlan J. Berk, Doug Winter, and Bob Green or Park Avenue Numismatics.
Allen has a gem uncirculated 1916-D Winged Liberty Dime. This coin is completely brilliant without a hint of toning. It also has Full Split Bands. Most collectors of the series would be lucky to acquire one example in circulated condition, if at all. It was a real thrill to examine this one.
The Athenian owl is an iconic coin design that still turns head in the modern age. Harlan J. Berk, author of 100 Greatest Ancient Coins, never leaves his Chicago office without bringing major coins with him, shows off a fantastic Athenian tetradrachm from 520-500 BCE.
Bob Green is a major market maker in a variety of type coins and rare issues. While we enjoyed many of the coins in his case, it was a 1985-D in MS67 that stood out. Clad coins often get the short shrift from professional numismatists due, in large part, to the perceived abundance of these issues. The tide is gradually turning and new generations of collectors are interested in acquiring high end specimens of more recent vintage. This late-modern Washington quarter has premium eye appeal and quality- something you don't often see from the period.
Finally, Doug Winter shows off for newps that he acquired at the Stack's Bowers sale. These are original crusty $20 gold coins. What is so unusual about these coins is that a majority of the classic gold that you will find on the market has been processed in some way, especially true for circulated gold. These have honest wear and are CAC-approved as being A or B coins for the grade. We think you'll enjoy seeing them.

Think of all the modern collectors who today are immediately putting precious metals bars and coins in capsules or leaving them in mint tubes. 100-200 years from now there will be a torrent of pristine coins for collectors to gawk over.
And I wonder how many of those unopened tubes will have coins covered in milk spots .. 1987 to 2016 was not a good time for mints .. especially RCM.
I have a coin with a owl on it and I looked it up and it was from back in the C times and it’s worth 30 thousand dollars but I can’t find anyone that would buy it it’s actually the second coin shown in this video
