I love what you were saying about imaginative play- it had me thinking about my childhood! I had like, the biggest imagination ever. My sister and I would use masking tape to map a floor plan on the carpet as our dolls “house”. We set up a pet shop with all the stuffies. We took all the chairs and made an airplane. Oh we just had so much fun
What a terrific idea to present these ideas now when people are about to have a whole lot more playthings to store, rotate, hide, donate, share. The holidays demand that we be modest in our expectations of the "gimme gimme" categories, even for our children. They cannot play with more than one thing at a time. Dr. Maria Montessori's approach is so helpful and even quieting to the adults who play with the children or have to deal with all the potential for chaos. Some folks have homes where there are more toys than anything else at all and it's frightening and not healthy for anyone in the home. Sometimes I think the best fasting on Yom Kippur, Good Friday, etc., is that which gets us separated from our stuff so we can focus on hearing God in stillness. No one should want piles of gifts or toys that overwhelm the holiday tree or feasting table. It is too much. And kids grow out of non-educational toys more quickly. Though those who love vehicles, farm equipment, etc., often have those loves for life! LOL.
@@MyJewishMommyLife I am a political junkie because I believe that politics is crucial because it's how we figure out how to live together in peace. Quite awhile ago I fasted from political news, articles, books, commentating, etc. I spent that time in prayer and meditation to get me closer to God during a penitential season. It was difficult. No chocoholic ever had a harder fast, if that's what they choose. Carbs could work for me because I don't eat many sweets and certainly not much chocolate. LOL. In all seriousness, I wanted to be true to the intention of taking one's focus off things that can be consuming time when we could be listening to God. At what point does food need to be toned down or clutter need to be eliminated or constant talking heads need to be quieted to hear our God?
