I ran timeless posts with about a 10" offset from my barbed wire fence. Most spacings are every 3 or 4 t-posts, occasionally more frequent to go over terrain changes. The cost is pretty close to a wash and I don't have to worry about replacing broken fragile t-post clips.
If I had known that I needed 1/3 as many posts I would have done what you did. But I assumed I needed the same number of posts. All in all, hindsight is 20/20.
Duh. Of course you wouldn't use timeless fence when you already have a straight fence line already there with zero trees. This is the exception to most farms. Greg Judy uses Timeless because he is installing it as a new fence on leased property with trees on it. Apples and oranges.
The maintanence on the metal t-post with plastic isolators cost u more in the long run the time needed fixing bent metal posts and grounding out issues.. with a well designed timeles set up lasts longer with way less maintanence worth it by far...
100% agreed! I am in year 3 of the fence, and I'm ready to replace the whole thing. Maintenance is a nightmare. I probably have to replace at least 10% of the clips! The next time I drop some money on the fence, I am going to build a timeless high-tensile electric wire 6"-8" inside the perimeter fence. If I have money to burn, I'll replace the barbwire with woven wire, or just get rid of it and put up more high tensile wires.
100% use what you got. The timeless fence would make sense if you didn't have the t-posts there already. Why was barbed wire installed every other level anyway?

The barbed wire will still work if your power goes out. I'm using Timeless posts with three strands of high tensile plus a strand of barbed wire on bottom and top (@ 9" and 42"). The barbed wire is mostly for discouraging predators but also as stated in case the electric fence isn't working.
I hadn't thought of that. I had the power go out a couple of times, and every time it's out for more than a few days it takes a few days before a strong voltage can be established again. It's because the plants grow up around the electric wire. A thousand blades of grass can carry a lot of current.

I didn't buy steel posts. I wouldn't buy them, except to repair an existing fence, and even then... When this fence fails, which it likely will in 10 or 20 years, I will replace it with timeless fencing or something like that. I do not recommend using t-posts and insulators UNLESS YOU ALREADY HAVE T-POSTS INSTALLED! Insulators are cheaper than tearing out T-posts and replacing them with timeless fencing.

Yes I had barbed wire when I bought it. I will repair it when it breaks but when it gets old I will just remove it or replace with high tensile wire.

The barbed was there when I bought the property. I added the High-tensile wires. They set it up for cows.

You wouldn't tear out the barbed wire, just run an off set with one or two hot wires. And use the 1.5 inch posts.
