This is the first time I’ve seen anyone use it, and it’s lovely - so transparent and glowing! Thank you for showcasing it. I’m glad to hear from your poster below that a new supplier has been found.
Fortunately this is no longer discontinued. I just bought a tube of Daniel Smith's version Anthraquinoid Scarlet on Amazon and the color is back on Qor's website called Permanent Scarlet. I love this color because it is the only true warm red out there that is fully transparent. Pyrrol Scarlet is nice, but semi-opaque in my opinion.
I bought Qor and Daniel Smith tubes of this colour when I found out it was being discontinued. I haven't yet opened eiher tube (lol) but I felt I should grab some before it disappears, as I learned the hard way and missed out on Quinacridone Gold when that discontinued!
Yea I wish I had bought Quin Gold before it disappeared. A few tubes are available on Ebay for like between 300-700 dollars....I wonder how many people who've been watercoloring for years have a discontinued tube of Quin Gold in their stash without even knowing it....
@@nadeaner.cowley513 many people hoarded it, and it disappeared from the market even faster. 😞 So now there are people with many tubes - either selling them for $300-700 on eBay or hoarding them - and many people who just want one little tube of it.
I just bought a tube of Maimeriblu Permanent Red Light PR168 from Jackson's. Two years after you made this video, you can still buy it for a normal price.

You should do a video on highlights and not just white highlights. Sakura Gelly Roll comes in many colors. Pilot's G2 bold 1.0mm are great as well. I have never used that pigment; so, I don't think I would miss it. I have a couple of colors from Daniel Smith that I like to use as warm reds: Pyrrol Orange and Quinacridone Coral.
Golden does NOT discontinue their PR168 because they found a new supplier (source: YT channel by Golden Paints „What happened to my favourite Color?“ ~14:50). Good news !
How sad! :-( It took me a while to settle on a choice for a transparent warm red that was Light fast… I just found the Daniel Smith version of this pigment/color that fit the bill. I can’t believe it’s discontinued! Just like PR206… One of my other favorite colors… I do a lot of portrait work and these colors are very valuable to me… thank you for your demo and information on this pigment :-) I love your sketches!
I don't use it. My studio palette currently includes Pyrrol Scarlet, Permanent Red Deep and Transparent Red Oxide, also the more frequently used Permanent Alizarin Crimson and Quinacridone Rose for color mixing, but it depends on which blue I choose, warm or cool. Permanent Alizarin Crimson and Pyrrol Scarlet are the two choices for my travel palette. Quin Rose is in my three-color Altoid Mini limited palette with New Gamboge and Pthalo Blue. (Daniel Smith paints.)
I never had this colour so I'm not planning on stocking up, but it looks very similar to pyrrolle red/orange, and a bit like the new Transparent Orange W&N pigment (DPP? Whatever it means), its my favourite so i dont feel very sad about it.
@@SarahBaileyArts maybe thats why I was never interested in it, I never use straight red colours! If I want it I can mix transparent orange with cool quin red that o use way more often, and boom! diketopyrrolopyrrole. Or possibly PO107. No one seems to be sure. The official WN list says DPP. www.winsornewton.com/uk/education/composition-permanence/professional-water-colour/

Just back from the local art store. They had 6 tubes of PR168 (DS) left, of which I bought two. I'm looking forward to paint with them! A new color is always nice to investigate the possibilities.
Aww, how sad! Why are they always doing this with good, lightfast and non-toxic pigments? :( I make my own watercolours and my go-to bright red is pyrrol scarlet, but perhaps I should invest in some PR168 while it's still available.
Teoh, I'm glad to tell you that golden has found an alternative supplier for pr168! I'm not sure If daniel smith was already using the alternative, or if they still had some of the old version in stock, because their's is usually in stock at my local store.
