  • In this video I am doing a Sound Demo of the Center Channel Speaker. The demo includes the center channel speaker in context of the front left and right channels, which is from a previous build (see link to the playlist below). This video is part of a larger project, the 'Home Theatre Build'.

    The sound is great. For me, nothing can express the mood when hearing the sound coming from your sound system. great.

      What was the third song on the piano track it sounds very nice. Especially on your system. But I must say your speaker sound is kind of like listening to acoustic in an empty theater. It sounds echoey and shallow. There's no depth or richness but plenty of twang. But that's what happens when you use too many tweeters and mid-range loudspeakers with no real woofers to back it up. I know my phone on Lincoln face so much but it does produce good sound. Sorry for the previous comment my stupid autocorrect and I had to fix it and it wouldn't let me delete it.

    Listening to this on a good set of studio headphones, they sound great. That recorder has a pretty good sounding mic.

    With your wood working skills you could make a beautiful entertainment center to complement those speakers. Not only would it sounds good, but look good as well.

    What would you say these are equivalent to, as far as what's on the market? I know this might be a difficult question to answer, but best approximation, maybe.

    • @SoundBlab
      @SoundBlab  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A very difficult question to answer, and I have not heard many of these I could compare it to. So, the comparison is based purely on what I consider to be quality and pricing of the components in my build and what a manufacturer might suggest as a suggested retail price based on their manufacturing cost, markup and perceived value for money. I think you can look at the price around US$600 each or more. When you look at the fact that the parts in my build are just around US$150, then adding cost of enclosure materials, and labor in form of a markup, you can easily end up with even more than US600. Not to mention retailer markup on top of that. Look at something like the B&W HTM 6 or the Dali Oberon Vokal. There are others many others. This of course, is only my humble opinion, but if you can build a good looking cabinet and considering the quality of the parts used, you will end up with a very good speaker that will compare well above what it cost you to make.

    Just a general question, if I wanted a passive radiator how would I calculate the size?

    • @SoundBlab
      @SoundBlab  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are some online calculators that can help you do this. You need the specs of the PR. You can also use WinISD, an enclosure design application.

    Any details about designing corssover for this central box? I did one but Im not sure if my approach was correct, after all this is different speakers geometrical positioning than in typical stereo design...

    • @SoundBlab
      @SoundBlab  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your frequency response will change from the listening position if you orientate a stereo speaker horizontally, and thus also the XO will need to change. My aim here was however to try and voice the center channel as close as possible to the left and right channel speakers. So, the XO is different, but you can only really voice it similar by ear. So it takes a lot of listening to fine tune the response.

    • @Bucefal76
      @Bucefal76 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SoundBlab got it, of course I also did measurements having central speaker in horizontal position as it is used. However I did not compared sound by ear with left and right channel speakers, stopping just at heaving measured response close one to another.

    Hey I have a question for you. so I recently wants to make home theater setup and I'm kinda confused about choosing right speaker shape for surround speakers, which one do you prefer? Oval or rounded one? (For center and surround)
    honestly I don't care about the sound quality, I just want to make it simple and can feel the surround sound

    • @SoundBlab
      @SoundBlab  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't know of any oval shaped drivers that are suitable for home use. You must be referring to the typical oval designs that are normally used in car audio? If you do not care much about sound then there is nothing wrong with using either for your project.

    • @KazemitoHaruhi
      @KazemitoHaruhi 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SoundBlab I don't thinking will use car driver, I still remember when my parents have Samsung 5.1 home theater Blu Ray player, it using 1 oval driver and 2 circular mid driver every channel and I forgot the type of it. I just want to ask Which is better, and I'm curious which one have a wide range sound and can deliver good surround sound. Thanks for your answer!

    • @mndlessdrwer
      @mndlessdrwer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Silver Flute speakers have a fairly warm sound signature. Because it's a lot more balanced due to the extra woofer in the center, the sharper highs from the Peerless ring radiator tweeters have been tempered a lot.

    Lol, "bass is not loud", its not supposed to be loud rather to complement and gel with other speakers. Its performing well esp as a center channel, good mids with no muddyness and well balanced

      @@sethh8892 Sorry Seth, but at 0:30 the guy states he has a small sub connected. You are right in that its impossible to really get a feel for any speaker review on YT given the compression. Plus the end result is only as good as the hardware you are using to listen to the video, which if its a laptop or cheap headphones won't be anywhere near as good as actually standing in front of the speakers in person.
