This made the Cashbox and Music Vendor (later Record World) charts in April of 1958 rising to No. 51 in Cashbox and No. 77 in Music Vendor. This was especially popular in Texas.
There were plenty of other songs like this in the middle to late 50s, some sold a lot some did not .A lot depended on distribution. I was around then. Were you John Poole. just wondering?
Kenny was 20 years old when he recorded this, and mostly unknown in the music business. After selling regionally in Texas, it charted moderately on Music Vendor and Cash Box's charts, but missed Billboard completely. Kenny soon forgot about his early career with Carlton Records when he got older and more famous, and when a DJ who interviewed him in the early 80's asked him what was his first solo record, Kenny answered "Just Dropped In" by The First Edition. The DJ said Kenny was wrong, and then pulled out an old promo single for "That Crazy Feeling." Kenny got embarrassed with the DJ, and whispered to him in astonishment, "Where did you get THIS?!"
If I'm not mistaken, this song was Kenny Roger's first single. He was only 20 years old back then, but he had a bright future ahead of him as a musician. He will certainly be missed.
