I needed to hear that Myra Lucille never left him. Maybe she never even thought of leaving him. God bless all three of you. God bless us all, no matter where we are We sure do need it. Life can be hard. From an 80 year old granny, alone in the high wintry mountains of southwest Montana. May our lives get better and better every day.
My husband was abused physically and had cancer as a child, when i met him he stuttered so bad he could barely state his name. Today he speaks clearly, is cancer free, and a great father to both our children. The victory belongs to Jesus!!

This came on with my tween in the car, and while this is not his usual fare, he loved it. I explained that the first line in this song would have passed muster in any of my fiction workshops. Everything about it is amazing.
My step daddy's ex-wife was named Lucille, he used to on occasion play that song; you see she had multiplesclirosis and went to hospice with her parents in a small town about 100 miles away, and he was left with his four kids to raise and lost his business and house to the medical bills, was on his own for 5 years when he met my mom and they married and our families merged and became one. After a couple of years together we settled into a nicer home in a beautiful beach town, on his vacation time at home he had time to reflect on his life, and he found that song and played it repeatedly for a few nights, and I could feel his pain. My mother felt it and said, "he is morning his first wife, we have to let him morn." I was 9 years young, and every time I hear that song I feel my step daddy's time of morning and love for the song that he could could reflect and find joy in. Bless you step daddy now in heaven and bless the song writer and Kenny Rogers for singing it so beautifully. Thanks
My middle name is Lucille, after my Grandma. When I 9 this song came out. Every day as I got off the school bus all the boys would tease me yelling, "you picked a fine time to leave me Lucille." I hated it. Now, I look back on that while listening to the song and it makes me smile.

Yes, a great scene and you do emphasize with all three of them, with Lucille who is hungry for laughter, with her husband telling the whole story of their marriage in a few lines, and Kenny being drawn into this, first attracted by her and then reflecting on his words. So much in there.

From my parents record player to my iPod.. I’m still singing along with Kenny Rogers, Carpenters, Simon Garfunkel & more..70s can’t be forgotten! Stand in solidarity with the soul of music, which cures it all!!
When I was really young, my Mom and Dad used to run a really cool youth group of kids at a church we went to at the time, and whenever they’d take the kids on a field trip type thing, on the bus they’d always end up singing this song! But they put a spin on it and instead sang “Ya picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel” lmaooo Had whole verses on a guy who lost his bicycle wheel going down a hill hahaha It was absolutely hysterical I think about it EVERY time I hear this song now 😂
Sorry for everyone who lost their parents I know how it feels I lost mine too may God continue to bless you and keep you strong sleeping peace everyone
Sound about as cool as a reservation for a deck-chair and umbrella hire on the sun. Hm, cool is subjective I suppose, and so is God, who may just merely be a concept in which we measure our pain.
My grandma used to sing this to me all the time. I can't wait for (hopefully) grandkids so I can sing this, and others, to them. *Especially one my favorite songs, 'Rye Whiskey'.
Man the memories of a time so long ago. Life was different and much simpler. Fishing holes and powder puff ice racing and demolition derbies. People were nicer and would wave at one another. Families were tight knit and children played outside. Life before computers and technology...man I miss those days 😭😭
l agree with you, indeed kenny rogers is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days…
But am here like plenty of others, to hear this great song again, its a masterpiece, thanks Kenny... If this was released today it would be a number one, thats how good of tune it is..
Turbo. I can relate to that. I just turned 80, and can easily feel the pain of everyone in this song, including the 400 starving children (and the crop in the field.)
Man, since the first time I heard it on AM radio when it was first broadcast, this song has always shaken me. Maybe it's because my family background includes lots of poor farmers or maybe its my unwanted divorce for reasons I'm still not sure of, or maybe it's simply the lyrics of classic Country and Western music.
Choose wisely. "400 children, and a crop in the field" can be way too much for anyone. Have some compassion, beginning with yourself. God bless you all, from an 80 year old granny in the high mountains of wintry, snowy Montana.
I've been wondering why did Lucille had to choose to leave as am about to leave maybe she was tired. I come to listen to it cause the person am leaving has sent me the song😂😂😂

My favorite song ever😘😘 it has been my ring tone since day one I started having phones...........My family song as well, we could sing it all so loud, Mum, Dad and all my siblings 💕💕💕💕💕💕
A perfect song. Perhaps another verse would have been in order but these lyrics perfectly capture that cut and run kind of betrayal. Poetic and timeless
This song haunts me a lot lately. She and her husband had four hungry children and a crop in the field and she left him anyway. That's just low and cold. As a result, the song's narrator refused to engage romantically. I wouldn't either. This is a great song. A timeless classic. I believe a great song can live forever. Kenny Rogers' music certainly will.
I know right, this a really depressing song! And it happens. This guy is probably slaving away to keep a roof and food on the table but it's not glamorous enough so she just walks away. Sad
My Mom's name was Myra Lucille and my Dad would sing this song to her .But she never left him .They were together until they both went to heaven .❤️❤️
Awwhh .. they both are still watching & listening to this with you.* Maybe mom is writing this to you, thru me. Keep smiling..

Teaches us that the heart is too timid about love!
I love how simple this song is. It's really lovely. The despair is so palpable. Your heart just breaks for the husband.
In a bar in Toledo across from the depot
On a barstool, she took off her ring
I thought I'd get closer so I walked on over
I sat down and asked her name
When the drinks finally hit her she said "I'm no quitter
But I finally quit livin' on dreams
I'm hungry for laughter and here ever after
I'm after whatever the other life brings"
In the mirror, I saw him and I closely watched him
I thought how he looked out of place
He came to the woman who sat there beside me
He had a strange look on his face
The big hands were calloused, he looked like a mountain
For a minute I thought I was dead
But he started shaking, his big heart was breaking
He turned to the woman and said
"You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille
With four hungry children and a crop in the field
I've had some bad times, lived through some sad times
But this time your hurting won't heal
You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille"
After he left us, I ordered more whiskey
I thought how she'd made him look small
From the lights of the barroom
To a rented hotel room
We walked without talking at all
She was a beauty but when she came to me
She must have thought I'd lost my mind
I couldn't hold her 'cause the words that he told her
Kept coming back time after time
"You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille
With four hungry children and a crop in the field
I've had some bad times, lived through some sad times
But this time your hurting won't heal
You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille
You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille
With four hungry children and a crop in the field
I've had some bad times, lived through some sad times
But this time your hurting won't heal
You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille"
Amazing
Thanks

19 th October 2024,whos around???
From my parents record player to my iPod.. I’m still singing along with Kenny Rogers, Carpenters, Simon Garfunkel & more..70s can’t be forgotten! Stand in solidarity with the soul of music, which cures it all!!
I’ll always come back for this masterpiece
Most touching line in this whole song.
"I thought how she made him look small."
Think about it.
Painful
Heroes come and go but legends live forever
We all die...the goal isn't to live forever but to create something that will...RIP KENNY
Fly high my guy
My dad sang this a lot when I was a kid. I'd never heard it sang by Kenny before, and now I know why he liked it so much.
When I was really young, my Mom and Dad used to run a really cool youth group of kids at a church we went to at the time, and whenever they’d take the kids on a field trip type thing, on the bus they’d always end up singing this song! But they put a spin on it and instead sang “Ya picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel” lmaooo
Had whole verses on a guy who lost his bicycle wheel going down a hill hahaha
It was absolutely hysterical I think about it EVERY time I hear this song now 😂
That is FUNNY!!!
@@fayensu those were some good days! I never forgot about it hahah 😂
“Ya picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel..” lmao 🤣
Hip Hop:. Really needed to hear what you said tonight. "Loose wheel" indeed.
Sorry for everyone who lost their parents I know how it feels I lost mine too may God continue to bless you and keep you strong sleeping peace everyone
Sound about as cool as a reservation for a deck-chair and umbrella hire on the sun. Hm, cool is subjective I suppose, and so is God, who may just merely be a concept in which we measure our pain.
grew up listening to these type of songs cos of my grandma & now I listen to w/o her😢may my grandparents rest together up there
My grandma used to sing this to me all the time. I can't wait for (hopefully) grandkids so I can sing this, and others, to them.
*Especially one my favorite songs, 'Rye Whiskey'.
Hello, how are you doing today ....
Still here 2024❤❤
Man the memories of a time so long ago. Life was different and much simpler. Fishing holes and powder puff ice racing and demolition derbies. People were nicer and would wave at one another. Families were tight knit and children played outside. Life before computers and technology...man I miss those days 😭😭
Kenny and I have taken many cross country trips. This was way back when cassette tapes (any body remember those?) were popular.
yes. I'm 80, and I miss those cassette tapes.
The best voice of Kenny Rogers.

But am here like plenty of others, to hear this great song again, its a masterpiece, thanks Kenny... If this was released today it would be a number one, thats how good of tune it is..
Because of his music Kenny will live on in the hearts of many people !
Hello how are you doing today
I sang this everyday in solitary confinement in jail. Don't go to jail. In the end I picked a fine time to leave jail. X
😂😂😂
The music never gets old.
I agree
RELEASED IN 1978
Classic music becomes only more relevant as we get older.
Turbo. I can relate to that. I just turned 80, and can easily feel the pain of everyone in this song, including the 400 starving children (and the crop in the field.)
@@marjoriegarner5369not to be rude the song says 4 hungry children
This is 2024 Who’s here?
Me been a fan since 2017

Am hear too🎉
Great song ,a classic.
Brilliant lyrics that roll off the tongue and a chorus that everyone listening to joins in.A party favourite
All the Gods, all the Heavens and all the hell is within you.chose wisely.keep the faith
Choose wisely. "400 children, and a crop in the field" can be way too much for anyone. Have some compassion, beginning with yourself. God bless you all, from an 80 year old granny in the high mountains of wintry, snowy Montana.
@@marjoriegarner5369 4 hungry children. What are you talking about?
@@drricksjoquist4358 400 children, not four hungry children..
a play on words.
I've been wondering why did Lucille had to choose to leave as am about to leave maybe she was tired. I come to listen to it cause the person am leaving has sent me the song😂😂😂

My fave song by him! R.i.p., kenny!
Hello how are you doing..?
auch eine der besten Sänger. Auch der Song ganz prima, danke
Rest easy legend,,,your track slaps much fine
Diese Stimme, dieser klang ist berührend, einmalig schön, wier alle haben Glück, diese Stimme erleben zu dürfen.
The great Kenny Rogers!!!! Su música se escucha con mucho sentimiento!!!
Legenda muzicii universale !! Respect !!🙏🙏🙏❤️⚘️
A perfect song. Perhaps another verse would have been in order but these lyrics perfectly capture that cut and run kind of betrayal. Poetic and timeless
Kenny was a true gentleman with a terrific gift. He and his songs are legendary!
Sad
Why a bitching on the woman??
@@chrisalusheff4990 Songs are not always true. I think it's good to remind people the bar is never a good place to meet someone.
Rest in peace Mr. ROGERS. THANK YOU FOR POSTING GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR FRIENDS AND YOUR VIEWERS. PEACE OUT
We all love these classics, sung by legends. They stand the test of time. Rest in peace, Kenny.
