This was beyond helpful. There is so much to take away from this, not just as as a creator looking for an editor or editors in general, but all freelancers. As someone who has also freelanced (and still does), charging hourly is so tricky. I’ve always believed charging based on project is the most fair representation for services. Thank you for the great video!
Great point.
This makes it interesting for folks like us who are subscription based as well. Keeping it fair and offering tons of communication is definitely key.
@@videoforentrepreneurs for sure! I think hourly is good for consulting and coaching, but for a product/service? It’s more of a question of what do you value more? A good product? Speed? Something else? Hourly always feels like the value is placed more on speed and not quality. If it only took me 5 minutes to come up with “Just Do It” for Nike, but ten hours for another slogan that wasn’t was influential-what are we valuing?
My first three attempts to get an editor were varying levels of failure. First two times I definitely didn't have the budget, third time I'd say I definitely had the budget for 1-2 videos per month. Problem is finding someone who fits with the channel though, trust is big.
Great video!
My big takeaway and validation from this video is that you really can’t communicate enough when editing video content or hiring professional editing help.
Setting expectations on both sides is paramount and being flexible during that process is crucial.
As an editor this was such a great watch!
The problem with most clients is they can't comprehend why editors need to be paid $500 instead of $100.
Thanks Tony!
Artlist is dope, used your link🚀
Love to hear that!
This is so so great a podcast valuable and sincere business and Business Goodwill making advice for Editors and Creators. Major take-away, Know your business and do not be greedy.
Great advice for video editors here as well: "Find a video editor who can immediately link to their body of work."
If you want to get hired as a video editor, make sure you're linking to your portfolio front-and-center!
Great point! It’s crazy how surprised our clients often are when supplied with our port work up front. 😅
That was a smooth ad read :)
Thanks Alex! We had fun with that one!
Great bro❤
could you share the ranages for the revenue structure split between creator and the editor?:) since i have no clue if that should be like 2% of 50% i guess it depends on size of the channel and various factors but would love to hear more on that :)
I'm looking for an editor but how do you send like 40 gigs of video files? lmao
Create "proxies", send those instead of the original files, have the Editor edit the video using the proxies, once they finish you get the project file, replace the proxies with the original high quality clips and you are set.
Work with editing services that supply the cloud space for you. 😉
Dope Artlist segway! I'm going to honest your guest not knowing about hiring on Upwork is a big deal breaker for me.
Glad you liked that transition!
Really appreciate this video... I am a video editor, and create all the content for my wifes channel. But at the point where we need to hire out the editing. Thanks!
Maybe we can connect. I have sent you DM on Instagram
Intrigued that he is at Thomas Frank's place.
(Love that studio. Great interview!)
They work together!
@@CreatorScienceYT Too cool.
If you are reading my comment and I guess you might be looking for the right editor. Am I right? If yes then maybe we can connect
thumbs up😊
$50 per hour for a freelancer, a non-salaried expert in any field, seems a good number to have in mind.
Nice vid. Appreciate you taking the time. #cre8r
im looking for an editor
I like this idea - this is a good place to do some matchmaking!
I hope you find someone!
Im your guy!
What is the biggest pain point you are trying to solve with editing help? Genuinely interested. 😊
yeah, if I ever get an editor they better like Basketball lol
Soo.. whos looking for an editor? 👀
Hi Jay! I hope you're having a great day. This is a friendly reminder about the email I sent you a few days ago discussing a potential partnership. I'd appreciate it if you could check it out!
Not giving your guest proper credits on the title of your video is way disrespectful and talks loud about how much you value his insights. I hope he charged you for this interview, abuser!
He has all his socials in the description though?
Oh stop it. There’s no rule about your complaint. He has done everything fine without your input.
You must not know how TH-cam works even tho you watch him. People don’t know his guest well enough to generate curiosity for someone to click
So you do something that creates a curiosity gap to make people wonder who is that and what is the itch I need to scratch
It’s not disrespectful, it’s just how TH-cam works if you do it write
Make content that’s problem aware based not solution aware (marketing terms)
@@justjumarigreat point I was thinking the same. I actually think this is the best way to put people on who aren’t known even after so many years working. There’s so much information out there.
Haven’t watched it and already know it’s going to be a banger video 🔥
hope you like it!
