Stargazer is still my favorite Gundam OVA ever. It takes everything great about the Cosmic Era and takes the bad things out (teenage drama, plot armor, reused animations). It's truly unfortunate that the soundtrack created for this short series was never released.

Yep, sadly many Gundam series are becoming almost prophetic at this point. Whether that be wing’s warning about umvs. G’s stance on war happening no matter what even if it’s hidden and the cost it takes on the planet and people fought up in it. 00’s warning of what will happen if we don’t stop. Not remembering seed or seed destiny. Iron bloods message about dehumanization and lost children. And of course cosmic era, everything just getting worse as the world spirals into chaos.

One thing that stood out to me about episode 2 & 3 is the reframing of Sven's backstory. Beyond the literal brainwashing and excuses to cameo other Blue Cosmos characters, there's also the repetition of Sven's guardians trading him away like an object... but regretting their actions when it was too late. A few more minutes on that and less on the literal brainwashing might have been a better choice.

@spec ops Except in gundam no one ever managed to change the minds of anyone that matters, or even entire populations. How many Zeon remnants reappeared? How many wars were reignited? Even now, with the upcoming adaptation of the flash novels, war will reignite once again, almost a decade after the end of unicorn/narrative. 26 years after the OYW people are still waging war for the same (or very similar) ideals.

    • @echos5823

@spec ops gundam UC is about understanding and how people believe it solve the problems they face.
CE on the other hand had a more cynical view, kinda fitting for a post-9/11 climate Gundam I guess... CEs point was that there is no silver bullet that can solve our problems and let us hold hand and sing Kumbaya. If you want peace you gotta work for it to maintain ans keep it.
Hell, Jesus never created any world peace either. He only have stopped a genetic caste system being implemented wrorldwide by no-scope-soloing his way into command center of an already wavering and confused enemy, and remove the sole proponent for the genetic caste system. Since no one other than the chairman actually want it, the whole thing apart pretty quick. The actual ceasefire and peace that came afterwards was from people negotating and resolving their conflict through talks.

I'm not sure if that's the right word for it, but basically you're saying things are unbelievable or unrealistic, often despite the fact that they've happened in real life (or elsewhere in Gundam).
Yes, people *often* blame entire categories of people for the actions(real or imagined) of individuals and groups. And yes, to the point of mass murder.
Also, you brought up Operation British as not being too much. Yes, the actual Colony Drop itself was arguably justified, but do you remember where that colony came from? As Gundam The Origin showed, the entire population of the Colony was gassed because they dared to resist Zeon's rule.

Everyone just hates so much on the first 2 seed series to seem like an intellectual but there aren't many problems with them besides slightly corny bordering on cartoony villains like Djribril and Azrael (who deserves his credit) and the Gary stu ness of Kira.
The first cour of seed was fun to watch and the second half slightly worse but the finale was actually pretty well done with rau vs kira.
Seed destiny gets too much hate for shinn but he's literally a 16 year old boy who had his beloved family and home stolen from him because of the incompetence of orb but his angst is justified.

    • @nicodalusong149

Speaking for myself, Seed would have been okay if it actually hit its mark and got the right message across because everything else is fine (except for the Aegis because while I like it, it doesn't make sense technologically (it would make more sense as at least a second generation MS)) but could have been better. As for Destiny, I was liking more than Seed before the writing took a nose dive due to irl internal issues. Shinn's fine until that point but was the victim of the aforementioned writing issues.
Long story short, I don't hate Cosmic Era but I feel that it could have done so much more and done better in more capable hands writing and direction-wise.

One of the underlying themes of the CE universe is genocidal hate for the "Other" which the Blue Cosmos group represents. All the hate crimes and war crimes in the years since SEED, Destiny, and Stargazer have shown that this theme is definitely one of the more relevant ones to our world. It's for this reason that Part 2 isn't as unnecessary as you described since it connects Stargazer to the overarching themes in the CE universe.

Part 2 sums up my problems with SEED in general. I totally get both governments going nuts and slaughtering everyone, but even in humanity's worse conflicts, such as the Eastern Front of WWII, ad-hoc alliances were formed to share food, tend to the wounded, and carry out other acts of basic human decency. The fact that pretty much EVERY soldier in SEED's universe turns into a complete maniac always just felt like lazy writing. In UC, both the Federation and Zeon soldiers act like humans, sometimes with honor, sometimes with treachery, while the governments do their damndest to kill one another. It makes for a much more believable story

... i mean, what? No, there are genocidal maniacs in both sides and there are more reasonable people on both sides. Just as example Patrick Zala was shot by his own man for trying to fire the giant genesis on earth, in Destiny we have entire fleets defecting from the Alliance when their bosses goes crazy. Thats just in the shows themselves.
Evn the governments are ambigous, some factions are ideological hardliners, while others are more pragmatic.

We're still waiting for that G Gundam video Boo. It's not just kung fu fighting and people acting overdramatic, to its core it is still a Gundam show that explores most of the same themes UC did. I would also recommend looking up and reading the G-Files, the interviews/mini Q&As the director had for every episode where he goes into detail little tidbits about why the episode was the way it was. The show was very well-planned out.

Because Fukuda's shows (outside of Dendoh and GPX) almost always botch the execution of their ideas. Hell, try and explain to me what Cross Ange was TRYING to do vs what it actually did. I got the impression the Stargazer was supposed to be a testbed for the solar sail (and then put on a ship or colony), but other material says otherwise and it was supposed to on mobile suits. I mean,at least put it on s mobile armor for more storage space.
I liked the Buster Verde but the Blu Duel always bothered me. The Assault Shroud was ZAFT's upgrades to the Duel, it was just weird seeing the AF do their take on the Shroud. The Duel was bare bones to begin with, I would have preferred to see a redux of the Blitz or Raider.

From an engineering perspective, foot vulcans are a brilliant armament for mech. They are a superb anti-infantry/light vehicle weapon system.
As for your critique that shooting up possible terrorists mixed in with dozens or hundreds of refugees is absurd... I have to agree that it is, but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened, or wouldn't happen again. The My Lai massacre in particular comes to mind. Irrational commands are hardly unprecedented in military history. People aren't always rational, and the level of blind hate here is not at all out of the question for humanity.
You say genocide is different from slaughter to make a point, but to the minds of the genocidal, the slaughter and erasure is the point. And hate can beget hate. Even in the 21st century, people are still profiled by race and religion.

I likes your video. It had a lot of thought put into it. However being surprised by an off the books team doing something like wiping out an entire group of people just to get at a few is actually something that happens in the real world. We just don't hear about it as much because obviously they don't like the public knowing that it happens. A shady group like phantom pain would care even less about civis than regular soldiers. I mean if they use brainwashing on their soldiers why would something like that be off the table? If anything it makes the show more grounded in realism because a corrupt government would totally do something like that. Sorry man but you need to read some history books and get out more. You seem way too sheltered.

My question is this, where the fuck did they get billions of mobile suits and the man power to pilot them along with the mass amounts of resources to do so in the Cosmic Era?
In UC, during the battle of A Baua Qu, they where around a couple thousand Mobile Suits and ships that carried them from both sides, i would say around 20k at minimum, 30 at most, with a small pool of limited produced units for specific task.
Even further down the UC timeline, it still hadn't reach the millions due to the fact that the man power for all those Mobile Suits would be lacking if it had gone to millions of Mobile Suits due to the wars and terrorist attacks from both parties. maybe it would be scratching the million mark around UC 100, despite them having the ability to make clones, which takes time and resources to do so. But again, the man power needed was in short demand.
Other eras had the same thing with lack of man power for each Mobile Suit they made and Mobile Armors. OZ/After Colony had gone to develop Mobile Dolls, After War the Bits and Flash system. 00 had Innovates/clones, made for 200 years and put into cryosleep with MSs made in secret from Theta and the world (no shocker as to why they have a large number of MS and man power).
G Gundam, just super robot show so it has a small pass on the abserd numbers for them, just look at the nether Gundam and windmill valley.
Even Turn A Gundam or G Reco doesn't have this many numbers of Mobile Suits, but they do have the man power for them. More in G Reco than Turn A.

    • @KillerOrca
      @KillerOrca 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I dont think we saw multi-thousands of suits at A Baua Qu. Maybe a thousand or two, total, on each side. Mobile suits are not small things, and they arent mass produced easily.
Hell, a full compliment squadron on something the size of a Federation carrier is less than a dozen suits. And in 08th MS Team, we see like...9 suits TOTAL for an entire unit. Things dont get super crazy.
But that just makes it work better honestly.

    • @Marisa_arts
      @Marisa_arts 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@KillerOrca honestly i over exaggerated the numbers for some to get the point across, but yes, they are really, really expensive to make, maintain and ship to make a full squad, let alone a company. hell, there still is the issue of man power and capable pilots to operate them in most eras. few have the man power to make such a scale fleet to have millions of units, like 00 and G Reco, but that has to do with them having a ton of relative peace to do so with the later part cutting it down due to the insanity that is Ribbons Almark and Alejandro putting the world at risk and killing thousands to millions of civilians and military personnel for their god complex and gain. Even the clones/Innovates aren't even put to that number as most died in suicide runs and bombing in the Gagas as ordered by Ribbons for a quick victory.
That's just one example to how small the forces are and can get if you start to think about all the lives lost and how much weaker a military force has gotten.
