    I enjoy how you garden on a budget because most of us want as many plants as we can but not spend a fortune

      Thank you so much. I love looking at high impact plantings like at Epcot in Disney World and wanting to have gardens kind of close to that, but I know it would cost a fortune. So doing it this way gets my gardens to a point where I'm very happy. It's almost like the feeling I get when I find a great bargain at Goodwill, a consignment store, or a yard sale. 😊♥

    Hi Vita! I had such great germination with the seeds I collected last year, I too ended up with a lot of impatients! I have a lot of shade, so they will go to good use, and I'm already planning to share them with my family and friends. I started them in takeout containers like you do, and then up potted them to the small seed containers like you also (12 6packs per tray for 72 total in one tray). Once they reached about 2-3" tall, I potted them up again into 8 oz plastic cups. I figured they would enjoy the extra room. Unfortunately I'm running out of room in my house, because these containers take up more room than the little 6 pack seed trays. Is this necessary or can I just leave them in the 6 pack? Will this give them enough room to grow until its time to plant outside? Thanks for these videos, you have a wealth of knowledge!

      Hi Lisa! When is your last frost date? Mine is May 15 so I still have 2 months to go. I am planning to pot my Impatiens up one more time as some are showing roots coming out of the bottom of their 6 cell packs. That's an indicator that it's time to pot them up. I feel that 8 oz cups might be too big and agree that they would take up too much room indoors. I have 6 cell packs that are deeper / larger and that is what I'll be bumping my Impatiens up into. Here's a link to them (although please do some price comparisons as I just found these quickly to show you what I will be using): tinyurl.com/3s92jcnc

      April 28th is my last frost date. Those deeper cells would probably work much better. The cups I'm using waste a lot of space because of their round shape. Thanks for the link, I'll research it a bit and see what I can come up with. Happy gardening!!@@budgetgardeningvita

    Hi Vita. Do you ever grow Bacopa? If so, have you collected the seeds and is it difficult? Thanks Glenda

    • @budgetgardeningvita
      @budgetgardeningvita  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Glenda! I've never collected the seeds from a Bacopa plant nor started seeds that I bought. I'll have to try and find a plant this year so I can see if it creates a seedpod. Wish me luck! 🤞🏼😊

      Good luck. I'm growing some now and hope to be able to find seeds.
      I love the plants, but the seeds are very pricey. We'll see how we make out. I'll keep you posted. Thanks

    How often do you fertilize the seedlings?

    • @budgetgardeningvita
      @budgetgardeningvita  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there. I fertilize the seedling each time I water them, which is about once a week. They get a half strength of diluted fertilizer from what is recommended on the packaging. 💐

    • @ibster57
      @ibster57 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Y water from the bottom with the fertilizer, or can I water from the top with the fertilizer? Appreciate your reply. This is the first year I am going try the inpatient and alyssum.

    I tried moving all my seedlings into 6 cell packs and they all withered up. Is that from overwatering? Having them outside in the sun? I am frustrated all my babies died 😢

    • @budgetgardeningvita
      @budgetgardeningvita  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there. First, I'm so sorry to hear that you all your seedlings withered up and died. 😢 Did you harden them off slowly before moving them out into the sun? Seedlings that are indoors are not used to the outside elements (sun, rain, wind, etc.) so it's important to gradually get them used to that. The hardening off process can take a number of days, starting with a few days in shade, a few days in part shade, etc. until you eventually get them out in full sun. Also, the 6 cell packs dry out very quickly outside so it's important to keep checking on the plants. Don't give up hope. Gardening is a process and we all learn from the process. ♥🌷

    I love impatiants. One of my favourite plants. However, please be aware of the vine weevil larvae. They decimate my impatients in pots and conteiners by the beginnning of august. Exactly when they bloom the best. I have even tried keeping them off the ground but the adults climb and jump. They come in droves uf you have impatiens or fushia. You might need to treat the pots with nematods or the pesticide that kills the larvae or you wont enjoy your labour. They also love my primulas. They destroyed entire massive jade plant and they will attack anything succilent with thick stems or thick rybozomes or roots. I have never seen them attack colleus so i did the very big mistake to transfer the colleus with some dirts attached to overwinter. The larvae ate the stem and all plants but one died. It is the number one most destructive pest in my garden. It will eat anything if hungry but it has it favourites and impetients are number one snack for the larvae. For people looking to multiply them they root very easy from cuttings. I have broken a branch by mistake and just put it in the soil without dome or rooting hormone and it took root.

      Hi there! Impatiens are one of my favorite plants, too. They are so pretty! Thank you for the heads up regarding the vine weevil larvae. I have never heard of that pest. It sounds awful! Also, thank you about the tip regarding propagating Impatiens cuttings in soil. I'll have to try that. I have always propagated them in water. Happy gardening, friend! 😊♥

    Only 4 out of 40 impatien seeds germinated 😭 I’m having trouble germinating petunias as well

      @budgetgardeningvita  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh no! Were they seeds that you collected or had bought? Newer or older seeds? Had you surface sown your seeds? Just curious...♥🌷

      @@budgetgardeningvita they were new seeds that I purchased. I sprinkled a tiny bit of soil on them oops. I started more a few days ago and just lightly pressed them into the soil, hopefully those ones do better

    Do impatien seedlings need the led lights for germination? I have them under led and on a heating pad…

    • @budgetgardeningvita
      @budgetgardeningvita  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there. Yes, Impatiens seeds do need light to germinate Did you surface sow them and press the seeds into the soil after? That's good that you have bottom heat for them. When did you sow the seeds? Were the seeds old or new? Sorry for all the questions. 😊

    • @jasonburton7296
      @jasonburton7296 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes I pressed the seeds down just like you did in your other video. I planted them on 3/12/24. I had been turning the heating pad off… bc well the sun goes down so I figured I’d do mother natures way- I missed the part the heating pad needed to stay on until 3/16/24 that’s when I started to leave the heating pad on.The seeds are new from Lowe’s. I currently leave the led lights on for 12-16hours and the heating pad on 24 hrs a day. I’m intrigued to see if I can start from seed bc last few years I spent over $600 on just porch flowers 😵‍💫

      Update- should I be concerned zero impatiens have germinated? I planted 60 seeds on 3/12/24… I have tons of coleus sprouting…

    • @budgetgardeningvita
      @budgetgardeningvita  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My apologies for not replying back to your previous comment. I'm happy to hear that your Coleus seeds germinated sprouted. Yay! If you can grow your own plants for your porch, you'll surely save yourself money! I don't think it's a good sign about the impatiens seeds. Did the soil dry out? Sometimes the heat mat can do that. Do you have enough time to start another packet of Impatiens seeds? If so, I say give it a try.
