This is great! I’m excited to see how you tune the reeds. I’ve got an old reed organ that is in tune with itself, but it’s quite sharp (I think that’s how it was made). I’ve thought that if I want to play along with it, I can just tune my other instrument to it, but it would be nice to know if I can tune it.
Hi, thank you! Well I had a look at the tuning today, and the whole accordion is a little flat, so I'm in a similar predicament! A long time ago I also had a harmonium which was out by nearly a semitone, and I wondered the same thing. At the time I was told it would be a lot of work, so I never bothered, and I don't have it anymore. Basically you have to scratch/file the base of the reeds to lower the pitch, and file the tips to raise them, so if your harmonium is only a little bit sharp, you could have a go... If I remember rightly, harmonium reeds are quite easy to remove and are not valved like accordion reeds. Tuning this accordion is going to be a real pain, I'm not looking forward to it at all!
Oh, one more thing, a chap who knew about these things told me at the time to beware if the harmonium says it is "mouse proof" as it may have purple tissue paper inside soaked in cyanide. I don't *think* he was joking...
Fantastic job ! Thanks for the mention !
Thank you! And, you're very welcome - your videos were really helpful!
I'm sure there is a glitch soundtrack to be made from all of the potential sped up sounds from the timelapse.
Fascinating process.
Hehe, well if you fancy the challenge...
