Something I would also like to add in is at 4:05 Bruce's design looks like his undercover persona he took in BTAS "The Forgotten" where he had lost his memory and thought he was some old man in a slave camp.
Basically now the joker has a legacy that haunts Gotham after his death people made a gang freaks and monsters emerge from the darkest alleys of Gotham. The question is, will Batman stop jokers Legacy before the darkness consumes his beloved city.
Very intrigued as to WHY he's gone undercover. Sidenote, these deep dives are always my most anticipated videos from you guys, looking forward to it continuing along side the comic!
I love these 1980's and 1990's movie references. "The Crow" (1994) reference is especially perfect. Always thought it had a stylistic connection to the Tim Burton movies but with an R rated edge. Can't wait to read the whole story.
It’s hard to believe that he is in Arkham and how did he get there also I wonder will we see ghost of the previous villains that died from the fear gas?
Direct sequel novel On April 11, 2024, it was announced that a new novel would be released which would tie-in to the film. Announced with the title Batman: Resurrection, the novel was to be written by author John Jackson Miller, and would act as a direct sequel to the film. The premise of the novel was to be set in between the events of Batman and its sequel Batman: Returns, with Batman focusing on dismantling the remnants of Joker's organization while contemplating on the idea that Joker might not actually be dead. The novel would also include certain characters introduced in the sequel, with one example being Max Shreck.
I'm disappointed that the Joker is said to be dead since 1989 while Alicia Hunt is brought back alive despite falling out a window to her apparent death in the movie: Sam Hamm should have gone back to his original pitch for the sequel. “I pitched a scene where the sequel would open with the trial of the Joker, who it turns out has survived his fall from the top of the cathedral,” Hamm said last year. Since the Joker is the greatest Batman villain that should return instead of dying from the cathedral fall or suicide bombing his courtroom trial. Jack Nicholson was furious that he never got a sequel with the Joker but the comics could give the Joker the sequel that the movies didn't but instead they just bring back Alicia and say the Joker is dead. Lame missed opportunity. 🦇🦇🦇
I'm sure that he will be back because in May 2023 an issue of batman has been released where jruce is fighting a guys who wants to resurect all the Jokers who died. And we see that Nicholson is alive and his disappeared ... So if they want to put the Joker back, it's possible now ! And he is on the cover of tge numero 2 . Give us back our Jack Napier !!!
It's just the first issue. Is he really dead, though? We'll just have to find out. Also don't blame Sam Hamm if he changes his mind on what he wants to happen in the story he created after more than 30 years.
No, don't bring him back, unless it's with the fear gas by crane. I didn't like that Alicia survived, but maybe that will be explained more later? The Joker did die and didn't survive a fall like that. I'd rather see this Batman take on new villains than a rehash of another
@@JaredPresleyExperience Catwoman survived her fall from the top of the Shreck skyscraper so why can't Joker survive his fall from the top of the cathedral? Just a fear gas hallucination would be a weak cop out. Fans want Jack Nicholson's Joker back instead of Jerry Hall's Alicia Hunt back.
@@lydietrechot788 I saw that Batman 135 (2023) with the Michael Keaton Batman appearing and shows Nicholson's Joker Jack Napier back, with Burtonverse Gotham City's Action News reporting "Deadly 'Joker' Is Back: Commissioner Gordon confirms body of Jack Napier missing!" Which got me hyped! Also DC teased the Joker's return in Dark Crisis: Big Bang (2023), written by Mark Waid and art by Dan Jurgens, created a new Earth-789 hybrid of Burtonverse Earth-89 and Donnerverse Earth-78, which shows Joker Jack alive which also got me hyped!
What is the point of bringing Alicia back? Even if we somehow accept that she didn't die in Batman '89 (and there's no way she could have healed from acid burns), what purpose does she serve now? She was essentially a plot device in the movie. Also, why is Bruce completely grey now? He went from a streak to completely grey in two years?
I kept reading hoping they would give an explanation as to how she survived the jumping out the building, perhaps she has a larger role in the series… Also I think the grey is a disguise.
@@seanwillets4913 I always thought it was clearly implied that Joker actually killed her, that he was being sarcastic when he claimed she "threw herself out of a window." The way he busts her mask then says, "You can't make an omelet without breaking some eggs" strongly suggests this. He lost interest in her now that he's infatuated with Vickie, and it only makes sense that he would casually "discard" her. It's such a Joker thing to do. How is it a disguise? It's just Bruce Wayne with grey hair. Anyone would still recognize him.
@@dreamlandnightmare All very great points, haha I was really excited for the first 89 series but I was let down with quality of writing I didn’t get past the third issue. The fact that they don’t remember things like Alicia going out the window is concerning, surprisingly it makes me think Hamm might not of been the best person for the job. A lot of people seemed to like the series though, and I’m willing to give this one a chance, but yeah not a great start.
@@seanwillets4913 It seems more like Hamm is trying to steer it more towards his vision of what the films should have been than writing an actual spiritual successor to the Burton films. It seems Joe Quinnones' art is trying harder to connect it to hose films than Hamm's writing. I don't like the fact that Hamm hates the character of Alexander Knox (he tried to kill him in both his Batman and Batman Returns scripts), because I'd love to see that character again.

Great summary of the first issue. I really do hope they have a hardcover version for the echoes series. I have my issues with the '89 comic. There's some great things but also some problems imo However, so far with issue one of echoes I'm much more engaged and really look forward to it. I hope they can keep it up. It's difficult in 6 issues, but hopefully they can. I almost feel as if Hamm has more freedom and less oversight with this. That, or he's getting in a comfort zone after getting back to conics with '89. I personally felt he had an issue with writing Catwoman, primarily because that wasn't HIS Catwoman, but Daniel Waters Catwoman. However, all the characters (so far) in Echos are his version. He's essentially starting with a clean slate. Sure, there may have been a few things the editors wanted him to include but I already feel this is the story he wants to tell.
My main issue with '89 is that it feels like he planned initially for the fourth bat to a 8-10 issue series before being told he's only got 6 somewhere on the first third of the story
these comics aren't canon, so it really doesn't matter what happens in it, bcuz it didn't come from tim burton. it's poorly written, loosely based what if tie in, fan fiction. until they go to tim burton himself discuss with him the ideas that he would've wanted in his batman movies then it'd be worth a consideration, as an expansion. but until then this ain't a "deep dive" bcuz it's not canon nor a tie in to burtonverse even DC doesn't consider this canon. LOL
Dude the Burtonverse is dead but at least they are doing something fun with it and while it's not perfect it still has good ideas and explores the characters.
Also at 1:13 , the four Batmen are CLEARLY modeled after Affleck, Bale, Clooney, & Kilmer
The Fake Batman's chest bears the Bat insignia John Blake draws with chalk in from Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises.

Great to watch a new Batman '89 Deep Dive!
I'll say it, the whole SWAT raid part of the story was pretty engaging.
