Wow! That's an excellent mix of Family Bond, Team work on the face of obstacles, decision making, video, background music, editing. God Bless The Family
I am still binge watching your videos and I have to tell you, I was almost having panic attacks when you all were kept getting stuck in the snow. But I hope my neighbors didn't hear me when I was clapping and cheering when you finally made it back to gravel. It was kind of funny. I was saying, "you all need to put air in those tires and get out of there." And POOF! There was Dan Jr. airing up the tires. LOL!! Now, as for that wringer washing machine, be careful of that wringer. We had one when I was little and my arm got caught in the wringer twice when I was helping my Mom doing the wash. LOL! I wonder how much further I have to go to see when Caroline gets married. I know she will want her privacy, but I would love to see her in her dress on her wedding day. Yes, this great-granny is one of those. LOL! May God continue to bless and protect you all always.
Thank you so much for posting this. Summer on a lake in Northern Ontario is my idea of heaven on earth. Yesterday I heard that the border will be closed through the end of July so please keep posting so at least I can enjoy it vicariously. You’re also teaching me how to turn my Jeep into an overlander. Subscribed and thanks again!!!
Carol was so excited for the moose find. That was awesome. Thanks for continuing to share you journey. Was at my bro in laws house this evening, here in Peoria AZ. He started talking about your 3 day snow adventure. It's always great to have someone bring up and discuss the same video's I'm watching. Sad that Expo West has been canceled, but will look forward to the day of running into your family again. Enjoy the island life. :)
awesome video and I'm glad you guys are home safe and sound, what a trip you made great memories like finding that moose antler to bad you couldn't look around the area and find the other antler because usually they drop the other one near by and the old washer machine will last many more years for sure those things are as tough as whale bone lol I'm looking forward to more videos from around the cabin and beyond stay safe
I’m super impressed :) You guys really nailed it! Mom strikes gold, Dad breathes life into a relic, the boys go gangster caveman and make charcoal, and the production/editing was pro a.f. Thanks for sharing this.
Welcome back to Ontario! I have done that road trip a few times in my JKU, such a beautiful drive. While staying in the same Ontario/Manitoba welcome centre overnight last Sept, I had a large bull moose rub and pee on my Jeep in the night. I awoke to the movement of it rubbing, then in the morning while looking for damage noticed the huge hoof prints and a massive "wet spot" on the tire from top to bottom.
What a beautiful part of the world, only had a few days camping across from Honey Harbour. Looking forward and just showed the other half, we have to do that road trip across Canada soon, keep well and safe.🇦🇺❤️
Home made charcoal, very nice. If you get to Tennessee you can see how Jack Daniels makes theirs. Much different that the traditional way they did it 200 years ago, which is similar to how you guys did yours. Safe travels and God Bless!
Welcome back to Ontario! Cabin looks like a beautiful spot, just returned from being north today, miss it already. Looking forward to you guys driving and overlanding here in Ontario, it’ll show off this beautiful province and show me places to go! Cheers
Welcome back to Northern Ontario. !! Congrats Carol on the Moose Antler find, very exciting indeed !! Maybe do a video on the Jeep upkeep that had to be done after that snowy mountain pass adventure ? 🙏🇨🇦🌲❤️
GORGEOUS SCENERY COLORS VIEWS VIDEO ! GLAD YOU'LL MADE IT SAFELY BACK HOME ! BE SAFE ! HAVE FUN ! GOD BLESS YOU ALL ALWAYS ON YOUR JOURNEYS ! MAKING CHARCOAL LOOKS INTERESTING & A LOT OF FUN ! ENJOYED !
Ya know, as an Proud American, I jealousy admire the true beauty of your grand landscapes... there isn’t Country to compare. Your mountains, and forested hills, your grand prairies, clear lakes, rivers, headlands and shores. We do have some grandeur as well, mind you... but yours, is amazing.
Checking in here, from NJ of all places, love the channel and usually can’t wait till the new episode hits! I’m a big antler fanatic, I’ve been to Saskatchewan on three different occasions just to shed hunt. Ive found Moose, Elk and of course Whitetail sheds. Many matched sheds as well, congratulations on the find!! I’ve driven two out of the three times as well, if I only knew about overlanding back then ... the drive would have been so much better. At any rate I could go on about the entire Video but you, myself and everyone sees the beauty and love that comes out of each and every one. Thanks for bringing us along. As usual cannot wait for the future stories to come, stay safe.
Many overlanding videos out there...why do I enjoy Epic Family so much? Because your doing it as a family! We have 5 kids and love getting away from So Cal, we are a 2 jeep family as well and have been traveling the past 2 years...keep it up...great watching your adventures!
Glad you folks made it home safe and sound. Awesome episode. Shared your channel with my brother and his family, he's a new subscriber. Hopefully we'll start doing some family Overlanding trips together soon. Thank you for the inspiration. Maybe we'll make a trek to Canada some day. Can't wait for the "cabin" episodes! Keep safe and well! Cheers
We’re so happy you made it back to Ontario safely! I guess you’ve been back for a month now. We’re also excited that you’ll be exploring the back roads in your area. We are taking the Jeep camping around Georgian Bay (Killarney being one of our stops) and up towards Temagami this summer. We need some of your great knowledge and inspiration! We’ll continue watching your amazing family and taking notes! 😀👍 Also, I’m interested to see what Carol does with her antler!
Canadian tire is one of the most expensive places to take your vehicle but clearly money is no object here! Great show tho! I’ve been to the frank slide and at night it is very eerie, some people have reported seeing old minor lights travelling around the slide in the dead of night. Also I think you may have skipped a couple provinces haha
Awesome job getting out of the snow and getting back. I’m stuck in Egypt waiting for international travel to clear up so I can get back to the US and my family. Y’all do an awesome job capturing the forests, rivers and family life. Its been well over a year since I’ve been around any real forests. There’s only desert and saltwater here which has its own beauty but nothing beats home. I laughed when I saw the boys in the old Army pattern camo, looks like you hit up a surplus’s store in your travels. Thanks for the brief escapes.
So glad you are enjoying the videos. Hope you get back to the US and with your family soon. The boys actually got those pants from their uncle John who served in Iraq. 👍🏻 have a wonderful day and we’ll try and keep the videos coming.
We discovered (un peu par accident) north of Ontario last summer. We loved it! I really appreciate your family travel! Keep on rolling, you make Canada proud.
I just started watching the series. I started with #5. Gonna have to go back and watch 1-4 but I can't stop this season. I'm hooked. I was kinda starting to worry there a bit about your son with that hole in his shoe. Glad you all made it out safe.
I just found you about a month ago, and have really enjoyed catching up on your channel. Love the engagement of the 3 kids who are all terrific . I really love the charcoal portion of this one. Glad you've found a place to land for awhile. We're avid trailer campers , 4 wheelers, and kayakers who live just north of Albuquerque in Bernalillo. Hope to be able to go camping at Abiquiu Lake in the next couple of weeks. I need to camp!
I hope you guys know, and I'm sure you do, how fortunate you are to have this life. I say fortunate instead of lucky, because I am sure you have worked extremely hard to get here. Congrats on that. Also, when is the blooper reel coming out with dad kicking the dog, the boys taking swings at each other, sis griping about her melted makeup in the back of the Jeep and mom drinking wine in the woods by herself to get away from all of you!?! Love your fam and your channel! Just a tinge jealous.
My favorite place on earth is on Lake Temagami. I won't make it to the island this summer because of the Covid-19 situation. Eagerly awaiting updates, and curious about where your island is.
Love it when one or both VanStralen sons get into a project and film the process! I never knew you could make charcoal so quickly? Does Dan have any plans to build something this summer out of wood? Do you think Lando remembered the island? Seems like he’s the happiest there. Peter, how is your sister’s family doing since she passed? I still think of them and pray for them.
The boys have some projects planned and will make sure to create videos around them. We had several of my sisters children up here last weekend to spend time with us. They are doing well but they also still appreciate the prayers. Thank you and have a wonderful day. ❤️
I am very eventerus and I love to travel. Last year I went to the east coast of Canada to Novascosha and then I spent a week on PEI in a cottage and it was very nice. Next year me and my family are going out to Alberta for a family trip. We have some friends out there that we are going to visit.
Like they say: Home sweet home, "nothing" is better than arriving at your home and everything is the way you left it. that's a privilege of staying off grid... 🤠

Currently we just have the M/S tires. We called around to a few places and you have to order in special for 37 inch tires. We may get them if we’re going to spend a lot of time in snow areas.
Question: since you’re running these rigs a lot and really testing them off road. What’s the maintenance schedule look like? Any parts you’re having to replace or fix constantly?
Hi there. Great question. We are very careful to do regular oil and fluid change always ahead of schedule and using synthetics. We recently had a wheel bearing go out on the 2012 Jeep but have had very few problems. Maybe we’ll do a video about this. Have a wonderful day.

Nice job family! Grueling drive but clearly well worth it. Your cabin is a slice of heaven! Health to you all and God bless!
That washer machine was epic. When things were made to last 💪🏽💪🏽
I still remember them back in the '70 in South Africa. They worked very good.
Good times.
Wonderful place and beautiful video. Thank you so much for sharing.
Way to go, Mama !
You finally got Your antler !!!!
Woo-hoo !!!!!!!
Carol was so excited for the moose find. That was awesome. Thanks for continuing to share you journey. Was at my bro in laws house this evening, here in Peoria AZ. Yes it is a beautiful drive. They are big animals! We are going to start setting up game cams at night to try and capture moments like that. 👍🏻
What a beautiful part of the world, only had a few days camping across from Honey Harbour. Looking forward and just showed the other half, we have to do that road trip across Canada soon, keep well and safe.🇦🇺❤️
Wow, what a beautiful spot. Could just sit at the edge of the lake and starrrrre for hours.... AND! it's an ACTUAL cabin!! Beautiful
Good to see you all safe and back home.
When I can, I love to catch your videos, so inspiring and calming with the footage, music...so needed now. Shout out from Brooklyn USA

This is just awesome! I love love love that vintage washer and wringer, So cool how it still operates!
Your are a truly remarkable family. And I appreciate you guys letting all of us be a small part of it. Very inspiring.
Home made charcoal, very nice. If you get to Tennessee you can see how Jack Daniels makes theirs. Much different that the traditional way they did it 200 years ago, which is similar to how you guys did yours. Safe travels and God Bless!

Glad to see you made it back to your cabin safely, it sure looks like a little piece of paradise.

Washing machine OR commercial grade restaurant mixer? Lol!
Love the first glimpse of the lake in the am. Glad you guys are there.
Lol. That washer is awesome. Washing cloths off grid must be a challenge. That machine should help.

Epic Family Road Trip. Yeah I was there too, about twelve years ago. Thanks again
Was great to know more about off road drive over snow 👍
We discovered (un peu par accident) north of Ontario last summer. We loved it! I really appreciate your family travel! Keep on rolling, you make Canada proud.
Love our wringer washer, but the wringer can be hard on zippers. Thanks for another great show

Great bit on the charcoal kiln. Are you making charcoal to cook with or enrich garden soil or????
A bit of both. 👍🏻

Yes we are thankful and make sure we don’t take it for granted. We loved this comment and it made us all laugh. Hilarious 😆 Have a wonderful evening!
Two shrimp tostada's,
Few Texas Twinkles.

Great video.
That kiln is really a cool idea.
Great video..I thought the charcoal kiln was very interesting..Its great to look at videos that you can learn from.I am going to try that.👍👍👍
Glad you guys made it to the cabin safely!
What a great place over there, reminds me of our house in Sweden. Summer is coming! 👍✌️
My favorite place on earth is on Lake Temagami. I won't make it to the island this summer because of the Covid-19 situation. Eagerly awaiting updates, and curious about where your island is.

Like they say: Home sweet home, "nothing" is better than arriving at your home and everything is the way you left it.
that's a privilege of staying off grid... 🤠
Life in it's Truth ... So great !! ~peace~
Glad that you are back safely! If you are living on a island in a middle of a lake, would an amphibious vehicle like an Argocat be useful, or is the water speed too slow for the distances you have to travel?
It would be fun for certain usages, but you’re right it would be too slow for getting out here. 👍🏻 Thanks for watching. Hope you have a wonderful day
Love the videos!! So happy Carol found her Moose Antler!! How did Vandi's windshield get broken?
It was a stone chip that split in the cold weather.
Wow, that the good life!
Excellent channel 👏
You guy's are my inspiration.
Thank you 🙏🏻
for charcoal check out jon jandai, plus he has water filters and many other really cool and simple natural fixes
Excellent video series ( as usual) I'm wondering if you carry snow chains??
Currently we just have the M/S tires. We called around to a few places and you have to order in special for 37 inch tires. We may get them if we’re going to spend a lot of time in snow areas.
Great camping
Question: since you’re running these rigs a lot and really testing them off road. What’s the maintenance schedule look like? Any parts you’re having to replace or fix constantly?
Hi there. Great question. We are very careful to do regular oil and fluid change always ahead of schedule and using synthetics. We recently had a wheel bearing go out on the 2012 Jeep but have had very few problems. Maybe we’ll do a video about this.
Have a wonderful day.

Love your channel, hope to see you guys down the road we are always exploring the beautiful back roads of Ontario maybe we see you one day 🤙🤙🤙🤙
Great job and very nice family 👍
An idea for up coming episode would be your wood burning hot tub. How it works and where you got it from.
Nice shed!
You guys are the best. Good video.
Mantap....oke..
Cool, washed I use to use with my grandmother it really does better than the newer
That Charcoal stack the boys made 👍🏼 That was very cool. Are the boys planning on utilizing the charcoal on future camp spots to make fire an easier process? Another great video guys 👏🏼
They use it for the Dutch oven but they are going to try and make a bloomery furnace. 👍🏻
15:34 Oh my word, you just discovered a bucket of my mothers cake mix.
We love the videos. May I ask what software you use for editing your video, and where you source your music? Thanks!
Premier Pro for editing and Artlist for music. 👍🏻
Saludos desde Chile amigos
We just entered stage/level 3 in South Africa.. great to see things are starting to be normal ish again
When will the wind reflector be available? I just started following your page. Trying to catch up now. Love it! Bought a jk unlimited a couple days ago..
you gotta follow MCRanchoverland on IG. They just posted something not too long ago about pre orders
Thanks! I’ve been meaning to ask EFRT about this item!
It’s now available at MCRanchOverland.com
Hope this helps 👍🏻
Hey! Loved this video! Brings me back some good memories from my childhood, is there any chance that this is Wart Lake?! Northern Ontario near Goulais River
We are closer to Killarney area. 👍🏻
Ahh, so many beautiful places!
