I'm normally Euro bumpers or bust, but something about the way you have yours set up just makes it look so right. The paint color, the wheels, the driving lights, the wagon body, hell even the side pipes! Kudos from this curmudgeonly purist.
I can confirm that the turbo absorbs some of the detonation. Have a N/A OM605 that sounds brutal if you disconnect the exhaust. My turbo OM605 on the other hand is much quieter.
I immediately thought of my 1986 audi 100 2.3L. Bought it for 100€ in '99 in my early 20s so just steaight piped it and it sounded awesome, many people in holland asked me if it was a v8. Even the police told me it sounded very nice and i never got fined although it was illegal
Do you have details of what the routing looks like on that exhaust piping and connection to the downpipe? I just picked up an 84 sedan (already have an 82 sedan) and muffler is shot, was considering fabricating a straight pipe anyway before I saw this video and was floored by how nice that sounds. By the way that is a absolutely lovely w123, I haven't seen many with that nice paint or interior. It was one of your screwing around in the snow videos that actually convinced me to pick up my first 300D and I do not regret it. Thank you!
Very cool. Does it affect/improve performance at all, or just make it sound good? Also- do you get more exhaust fumes/smell in the car if the windows are down?
Hey, Don Drifto Sir. Been watching some of your W123 vids lately. Came accross this one and could not help but notice the sound from the engine itself from the close-to-the ground takes. Does it sound to you like Rod Knock due to worn out bearings? Or is it the engine's natural sound on all W123s? It is a very strong but short, and also random Knocking sound. Love to hear your thoughts
@@SirDrifto Thanks you so much for your insight and reply. I had a very similar noise on mine. However I am not quite sure if it goes away or continues wen fully warmed up. I was so worried I had a rod knock. Gonna try some quality injector cleaner and see If I get a better result.
Is this a manual? Can't tell from the sound if the shift changes are you or automatic Also I'm thinking of doing that to my 83 300sd but want to run it all the way back, not straight pipe
I'm actually amazed at how relatively smoke-free it runs.
It sounds great. Just like my 12 valve cummins turbo diesel with a straight pipe.
They do have that truck diesel sound haha

Straight piped my 300d 617 and believe me without a turbo it gets ridiculously loud for a 80hp sedan
Lots of bark not much bite 🤣
U know he loves it just by his face!! Love it!!

We have matching cars, mine is a deep blue ‘85. Love the straight pipe, yours is crazy clean for that mileage.
85 was the best year. Where are you from? And thank you!
@@SirDrifto From SF now in Silver Lake LA. Have 3 diesels. 2 ‘85 wagons. Great channel brotha!
Great video and lovely car. I have a volvo 740 turbodiesel wagon so this video is major inspiration for that project.

Awesome. Thanks for the follow!
I got a 80 300D non turbo wagon i need to get it running
Sounds like a 4wd, so cool!
What in the hell does the presence of a transfer case have to do with sound
@@elirenigar9357 I was about to ask the same.
@@elirenigar9357 😂😂😂
I have a 280ce and a 280te. M110 engine is the bollocks
Why does it sound so much like a Cummins lol. I looked this up because I thought there would be a lot of smoke but she burns clean wow

@@Anderware I appreciate that! I did from turbo flexpipe through the center to the side. I had a muffler shop do it and I was very happy for $150
@@SirDrifto Thanks! Do you know if they enlarged the diameter from the flexpipe? I just crawled under there and it looks like oem is around 2.5" ID.
the spool down kinda sounds like the warden from minecraft
Love it

@@Gilmoreworks no exhaust fumes and I noticed more mid range power.
Should i put it on a e320

It's actually a pesky injector. Sometimes when it's cold not fully warmed up the #3 injector ticks/kocks

👍
Btw u should turn up ur fuel dial ;)
I’ve been told to do that hahaha
how is that done ?
The real question is how much it can tow 😂😂
Well it towed a full size Toyota truck 400 miles home.
I think without Katalysator converter😂

I'm pretty sure it's auto by the smooth gears change sound
Auto for sure
