Still are!
the underrated tag
Wow two obnoxious buzzworss
I used to be singer in a band called Neglectid Toyz. We played with Kix a few times (leading off). Once at the Network (which later became AL Gators which was south of Hammerjacks in Batimore). Kix was underrated and very talented. Steve (Whiteman) was always very nice to us and talkative. Some of my best memories...and later Whiteman's son Cody became good friends with my niece Caitlan.
@@stuarth4296 First live show i went to was KiX at The SandBar same place Pasadena Fort Smallwood Road Teen Night 1983 i was 12. I lived just houses away from Bob The manager.
Unless you grew up in Maryland you had no idea one of the greatest bands to ever hit the stage lots of memories at hammerjacks
Saw them last night at their last show. Sold out Merriweather. They made the crowd forget about the rain. Still high energy. A fun band to see. They went out on their terms. On top of their game. Glad I got see them again
I wish they would have put their issues aside and went out with Donnie! He was that song Writer no matter what he did,
@@XariasI don’t think he wanted anything to do with it. I think he made a large portion of this money back in their hay day. I think he owned the rights to the band. I could be wrong
Seen KIX many times and I was at the last Merriweather post show. It was great.
pretty sure they pay Donnie a percentage of shows to use the name. You can listen to his solo stuff online. Very different from kicks but pretty damn cool.
I was there. Sad to see them go after growing up with them but, I understand.
KIX Started it all and Never got the credit they deserve!!
From Annapolis to Hagerstown, we knew these boys before the rest of the world. Like he says, we didn't care about the ratings, Kix put an album out... we bought it. The most underrated kick ass band ever graced the stage.
Clear over to Bedford, PA & Keyser, WV!!
Hell ya brothers, we came from fredericksburg to see em. I remember when DC 101 and 98 Rock would play them on air. The days, I was 25 at this show.
Yes! ❤️ Kix forever!
I'm an aussie and i've been to hammerjacks. It was wild.

KIX kicking ass!!
Perhaps the most under-rated rock band ever! These guys had all the ingredients (great songs, electrifying performances, a frontman who had Jaggar-like charisma,, etc.), but never got the national recognition that they deserved. Glad I got the opportunity to see them many times.
The best live band I have ever seen....Period.......
Donnie was one of the most dynamic and entertaining bass players I've ever seen.
And an underappreciated songwriter, too...
He's such an energetic perforner, and really kind of an enigma. He's so low profile when it comes to anything outside of being on stage. I've never seen an interview or public appearance by him. But when he performs, I can't take my eyes off of him.
@@I-Libertine Exactly! He wrote most of their songs.
Thing I loved the most about these guys; when they hit the stage they abso-fuckin-lutely took no prisoners.
Now that's a rock band! They don't make 'em like this anymore. Still rockin' out today. Long live the God damn Kix band!!
An incredibly unrated band, and one of the best front-men in the business:)
I've seen a TON of the best metal bands in their heyday. These guys blow 99% of them completely off the stage. Would see them every year at the York fair.
It's rare to see a band make a hall sound and look like a stadium. These guys are pros. Wow
Man. All the Marylanders are here. Do I remember Hammerjacks. And yes you all right. All the best bands played there. The best part about that place was that you never knew who would walk in and get up on stage. I've seen some of the best bands on the business play there. What a great venue. And Kix called Hammerjacks home. And by am I glad they did . Because back in my day, I called Hammerjacks home too.
I still got the itche from that nite and I'm 53 yrs old now back then I think I was 19 or 20 still eligal to get in I stole my older brother ID we were just like twins...so thanks big bro..lol
Being from Maryland and in a band as well, every band from the area strived to be this good. It was hard. They had a magical chemistry. Not to mention that Steve Whiteman has one of the best damn rock voices you'll ever hear. The whole band really meshed well.
They had it all man. Killer front man and vocals, great look, cool songs......they should have been way more famous and well known throughout the world. Management/record company dropped the ball with them. They seriously were the best live band I’ve ever seen.
Agreed!
agree with all of this. Hell, they still put on a great show today!
Yah still very good LIVE. Saw them last night at the Dewey Beach show with the wife. She wasnt much into the hairbands but I was telling her that for some reason they never reached that SUPERstar level.
I've heard many technically better voices, but he uses what he has expertly. And he understood the assignment of frontman better than nearly all. Maybe there are others you like but for me Freddie Mercury and David Lee Roth were better but practically no one else.
As a fellow Baltimoron I'm here to say that KIX ROX! My band Modern Ruins opened for them at Hammerjack's 🔨 in '95!!!! KIX were not the lame LA glam metal, they were gutter punk hard rock with kick ass songs and loads of stage attitude!!!!! Shame on Atlantic Records for not promoting them the way they deserved!!!!
hammerjacks crazy times lol
What up chris!?
Kix is so underrated
You don’t know what that term means
@@nobodiesaltbutmine6674enlighten us with your genius level intellect please. They’re definitely not overrated
They are definitely underrated or better put relatively unknown in comparison to their talent and the fame some other comparable bands from their era achieved.
@@a.s.2426 I’ve opened for Kix about 4-5 times and worked with Steve Whiteman after losing my voice after a long string of gigs. They are one of the most down to earth national acts I’ve opened for or been around and the music is some of the best in our region
Yes! I was fuc king there! Cannot believe I am seeing this again 27 years later!
Who opened for them? was it LOFTON???
Sorry I'm 4 years late. Whoever opened for them couldn't have been too good since I can't remember (too much beer and pot), all I remember was Kix. Always put on a damn good show@@Frndly_Nghbrhd_Towboat_Guy
Pretty sure it was Skid Row. If so....I was there!
I Was in the crowd At HammerJacks on this Evening Belly Upped to Jill and Anne Marie's Bar on the Balcony Having a Blast As Always!! The 1st Year I Opened "Stikky Fingers " Life Was Amazing back then Sex Druggs And Rock and Roll!
🎉😂❤😅
One of the best live bands ever!
It was just better back then.
Everything was.
This is the first time I've ever witnessed a show at Hammerjacks sober BTW. :-)
And still one of the best live bands out there today!!!!!!
This is nothing boys and girls I have a listen to half of musicians and bands of love and support in p that's just a
I was at this show (and many more). I love being able to pick out my voice yelling during The Itch. Those were the best of times
Steve is the ultimate frontman THE MAAAAAAAAN
That title is reserved for David Lee Roth the legend.
Steve does the best Mick Jagger for sure
I miss Hammerjacks. I was at this show as well. Freaking awesome. Saturday nights rocked. 2 floors bar side. 2 floors concert. Meant Steve Whiteman there once. Cool guy. They always put on the best show live. Reminds me of the song that says "tore down paradise and put up a parking lot". Because that's what became of it- Parking lot for Baltimore Ravens Stadium. So sad.
I FUKIN MISS THE .........EPIC ..........hammerjack's
Reopens, end of this year. http: // hammerjacks (dot) com for updates. KIX will play the first open night
guitarguts666 I'm a little older now ....but this Va rocker spent a shyt load of time at HJs ....everyone played there....saw Michael schenker, Jimmy page, danny gatton, lita Ford and Gary Moore there, just to mention a few guys that played pretty good ...Geetar....thanks 4 the heads up.. ROCK ON
guitarguts666
Yoyoyoyo and that's the way it should be if they don't open up hammer jacks something is really wrong
80s hair bands ruled. Such talented musicians and singer. Love kix
Kings of Baltimore! The Best live band ever.
Amen!
sure miss going to hammerjacks man love those days(nights)
they used to come to hickory n.c and tear it up...
OMG!!! Miss Hammer's deeply. .. That was my 1st. 🏡😜👍 But then they went and hired the HOE'S non=dancer's worst or all tried to dance on my favorite song named after me,my real name, Rose!🌹🌹🌹🌹 Sadly to say that I was there 4th of July Concert and my so called friends left me, so I had NOWAY ( ride) 🏡 home. 2 guy's offered me a ride home, so i didn't no witch way home was safer a ride with 2 strangers or walk alone all the way to WESTSIDE ln heels & a miniskirt.... Neither way was safer..... I was tied up with ducktape on my eyes & hands and held hostage for about 3-5 hours, knocked OUT with a hud black eye with blood spots on the white parts to my eye, . ROBBED.. The Police the very next morning they even found my jewelry in the dude( John Bengermen Heart Jr.) Pocket while he was at work. One of the worst part was he was only given 3 months, not even sure how much little time. he even done?.. Anyways, I even seen Kix B4 they was even famous!! Here at Westside. SW BMORE. Miss U guys
Lol.
what a gem- this video-- great band, yes way under rated-- good sound quality only thing better would be more crowd shots with the girls of Hammerjacks then it really would take me back
Pretty sure I remember the blonde dancing during Girl Money was a stripper from Nightshift! 😁
Really miss hammejacks❤
Me too
The best band, great memories ❤❤❤❤❤
Kix was one of the greatest rock bands and shows EVER. Prove me wrong. The glam stuff killed their ability to really hit the top. But fuck….if you’ve ever seen them live….ONE OF THE BEST
Ahh, just watched this again getting ready for Sunday night. It's a shame it has to end, but all good things do.
Dang - takes ya back watching Steve and the band in their prime!
My favorite live band ever! Been going to see them for XX years! (I'll never tell) but a long time, LOL!
The greatest USA rock band that, for whatever reason, never really "Made It". I've seen these guys live at least a dozen times in my life. Just the best. And Poison made it....C'mon man!
Rob Schultz poison are amazing.
Poison busted ass to make it....do some homework.
Kix is badass rock though.
@@cjdickey1650 LOL! They used to come watch KIX all the Time from PA where they are from....They STOLE every light, every movment, and everything else from watching KIX perform....I do not belittle them for having the motivation and endurance to make it happen for them, but yes they had the BEST teachers in the World back then....Kix was poison 15 years before Poison was even heard of....They just got a bad record deal and promotion....
@@lukaCOOKIE Poison are good but they've never really stuck with me that well. They are the one famous glam band that i dont really love
I moved from the Rocky Mountains to Baltimore with a friend and he took me to Hammerjacks to see these guys! Already one of my favorite bands... Great time and great people!!!!
The very best band that never really "Made It" hands down!!
They did make it! - just not as far as deserved!
Of course not. The lead singer is a cartoon character with bad taste. Two good songs that I can ever remember and I'm sure that was just plain luck. But if this group is your bag, then so be it.
They made it as far as they wanted to go.
@@denisebrashears1552
There’s always that one negative buzzkill hater.
@@trump1912 she probably digs the “talent” in bands like Shitley Crue🥴
I used to see Kix at Hammerjacks all the time I was probably at this show. Kix after all these years is still my favorite metal band and put on the best live show ever. I moved to Ohio in 1995 and to my surprise after all these years Kix played the Hobart Arena in Troy Ohio summer of 2017 and you know I was there. What a show it was a total Hammerjacks flash back! Wish they would have played my favorite song Red Hot, Black & Blue but otherwise was totally fantastic! LOVE KIX!!!
I remember these days at Hammerjacks
For all you Donnie haters listen up, there wouldn't be a KIX without him. Donnie Purnell was the brains and kick ass drill Sgt that made the band one of the best live outfits ever! He wrote all the songs and handled all the business. I Love all the guys. They were like family to me in the early days. It sucks how it all went down as the years went on and I'm super proud of the Brian, Ronnie, Jimmy and Steve for keeping it going. But don't be hating on the guy lead them to success.
I remember my first KIX album with Donnie and it was full of energy but lacking good songs. Was Contrary Mary on it? Anyway BMF was something else and I still don't understand why they did not make it commercially. By the way I'm not from Baltimore or East Coast but Europe. And I'm not the only one here that has loved them for over 30 years
troy peterson. Donne parents let the guy's jam at their house before band every got anywhere.alway remember that People !!!!
Donnie was the best !! Still one of my favorite bands ever ..
But it's just not the same without him.
He made that bass thump it would shake your pant legs .
He rocked !!!
Agreed! Now Donnie chose to quit. So be it. He is an angry man who hates everyone now, and mostly himself. It is sad because He has, and had huge Talent! Donnie was the original heart, soul, and brains of KIX!
Donnie was the genius in the band and Steve couldn't deal with it.
There will never be anything quite like this old iconic and monolithic quasi-brothel on Howard Street in SOBAL! Hi Energy Industrial RR/Metal. Getting back to DC via Wilkens Ave. was half the fun!
HAHA wilkens Ave!!!!! Hookers everywhere!!!!!!
Great under appreciated band.... I mean one of the best front man ever. He is non stop !!
Oh man. I used to hang here back in the 80s and 90s. Saw lots of great shows there. Damn I miss that place.
If you never went to Hammerjacks, or especially saw Kix at Hammerjacks, well, I'm afraid you missed out. But hey you can still see Kix and they STILL KICK ASS!!!!!
I'm sorry if I missed it I've been busy everytime I see music more than music helping people out promoting music 🎶
First time I ever saw Kix was at Hammerjacks..underage 😅
HAMMERJACK'S ........WOW....if you don't know ...im sorry, as i've said .....i might be old but i saw all the cool bands....and most at HAMMERJACK'S
Me too brother
Without a doubt my best nites at Hammerjacks...I live in California now and was so excited to see them at the Whiskey...I missed Ronnie though...he was indescribable on guitar
i remember this show, one of the best ive seen, they sounded phenomenal
Hammerjacks was the craziest club back in the day. some of the best times of my life.
No, Steve Whitman is not like "Diamond" David Lee Roth, besides the over all charisma...and bot at all like Bret Michael's! I would liken him more so to, say, Steven Tyler! But, whatever he is like, Kix were always a pleasure, and a breath of...real, fresh air!!!
They were outstanding when I saw them at Harpo's Detroit in 1987 or so.
@@joseywales8277 I felt it was my 2nd home, lmao! I was there 7 knights a week. But they F'd up once they hired the freaking hoes to dance on the bars. In which that messed & pissed me off!! That's how i was able to go 7 nights a week & by myself. If a woman danced on the bar to 1 song🎶🎼🎤, she received 1 free drink of her choice And of course sense my name is 🌷Rose🌹, MY choice was GIRL💰MONEY💵
Great show, like all of their live performances. Kix forever.
These guys used to jam in my house. My sister dated the lead singer for 4 years off and on. It was awesome, there actually the nicest guys
Going to miss these guys after September 17th!
Kix was definitely the Maryland band, went to Mountain View to see them, Mt. St. Mary’s to be in the Midnite Dynamite video, Hammerjacks when I turned 21. It’s nice to hear Duff give them props in his book about there influence on Guns. The Rabbits Foot in Frederick, City Limits, and everywhere else, these underground boys started it all. Thanks guys, Bret Michaels and Poison better give you props too, I lived in the tri state area I know who KIX influenced!
Donnie needs to hook back up with them, together they are Kix, come on Donnie make the call!
GREAT band and Donnie was certainly their “secret weapon”...
Donnie just lacked the hair 😢
Wow. I was there and they sounded amazing. Thank you to whoever posted this. Best part was everyone singling along to "Cold Blood". It was fucking amazing! This band was soooo underrated it sucks cause they rocked - especially live! I would say they were top 5 of the rock/ hair bands that I saw live. Amazing show!
These guys always brought the energy every show up until their last at Merri Weather. So underrated they are hard to beat live. 🤘🏼
I just heard in an interview these guys went to play always clean and sober, after kicking ass they partied, great band and rock songs!!
LOVE!!!
What a kick ass show!! Good chance I was there as I saw Kix often when they played in Baltimore back then. Hammerjacks rocked!! So many great memories and great times I can and can't remember with great friends. Life was working hard and rocking hard, cool girls and my 68 Camaro (Just bought that again too and still love to burn rubber!!) Moved to FL a few years after this show and am still there. This band truly rocked and I really hope that they are all doing well today. I am for sure, and I love my life to include all the times rocking it with great shows like this. My wife really doesn't understand it but she wasn't in my life back then. She's still cool enough anyway. Love KIX and that time in life. No regrets. You guys are awesome and deserved to be as big as you wanted to be. True talent!! Thanks bros.
My band played Hammerjacks and Brian F' (KIX) is my friend. I moved to Hollywood in the '80s but Godamn! Hammerjacks rocked! - Memories!
i would like to thank whomever taped this too...bc brought back so many awesome memories...I was at this show....thank u
Man that man can scream!!!!!!!
Kix Wrathchild and Childsplay Rocked !!!
Hell yes🤘
Dude Brian Jack would sing his ass off! O.C. had all the bands too! F N miss it!
The big three!!!!!! There was many more, but none had what it took to stick around
I had seen them at Nagoya Japan.
I love KIX even now!
Great way to pre-game for their final concert tonight!
I gotta say, these guys are definitely my favorite band. I've been a fan for almost 35 years now and can truly appreciate how tight of a band they are . Huge talent on that stage, right there!
used to have our girlfriends drive from pittsburgh then back home same night to go there it was awsome i think it was 10 bucks all you could drink man those were great days seen them up here everytime they came
Killer voice, killer band!
Absolutely amazing .....real rock and roll!!!!!!!
Just great rock and roll. Love you guys.
Pure rock 'n roll kick-ass music.-
Saw them there in '93, very similar to this show. I just happened to be visiting my best friend, and his cousin at the time in Maryland, and they were close by, so of course we went! Great show, great LIVE BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i WAS THERE!
Same here and it seems just like yesterday..so much fun!
I remember this concert. I was there too!
Wish I was, had to be killer.
See them last month chameleon club lancaster .pa.....still awsome.
Kix is Real Baltimore. I've seen them 20 plus times at Hammerjacks since the 80's and at George Mason. My buddy and I were drunk as Monkey's and drove around the DC beltway twice coming home.
{K I X} every song. sounds like the studio album. that's perfection. that's (K I X) yeesss BLUESY ROCKING HEAVY METAL friends cheers 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺!!!!! ..... hahaha
Exactly!!
The Mighty Shoes! I remember Steve jumping off the drum riser after HIS drum solo! right onto Donnie's Les Paul bass breaking the neck, we had a P bass in the van to get them through, Donnie called it a banana but was appreciative, all this at.... a bowling alley. They were the best, love love love. Leroy
Like many others, Hammerjack’s was home, and I took seeing Kix multiple times a year for granted. I was at this show, the energy level and stage presence these guys had… no one even came close, they gave 100% every single time!
I went on a semi date a few yrs ago. She wanted to go to one of our casinos here so we went. As we walked through we passed the Wolf's Den. Steve made his entrance on stage as we got closer. I thought is was a cover band. Then I saw Steve & the boys. I asked her if we could stay & watch. She didn't know who they were and passed on it. I handed her some money & said, "I'll find you when it's over". 🤘😆 They about brought the roof down. They were one of the most fun bands to ever watch. I've been a fan since Midnight Dynamite was released. They truly were/are everyone's band.
And by the way, we didn't date and now I'm with the love of my life. And she love Kix too ❤
THEY ARE TIGHTER THAN A GNAT'S CRUTCH....BRILLIANT LIVE BAND
And then some! I worked this show and the REAL show was backstage from what I can remember....
This was in a club. It felt as big as any arena show. Huge. Explosive. Never again.
Hammer jacks was not just and KIX packed them in every time they played there
I pray to God that the 80’ and 90’s Rock n Roll comes back around before I die !
It was the best times of my life and today’s music ain’t got nothing on it…
Fucking epic, I was there!!! I think I was at every day show all the way back to when they were the Shooze.
I was at this concert hammer jacks days ❤ miss those days
..masters of rock..
Always an excellent live act.
Just saw them tonight 2019
Still rocking
I was there boys, those were the days to be alive. Rock, Girls and cocane. You young pups just got no clue today.
I was at this show, and absolutely the best frontman and band ever!!
I watch this over and over.
Will be at the final show in Sept🤘. Grew up with this band🤘🤘
I seen these guys at a bar in the country by Hagerstown, Maryland. Way back when and they were awesome. I seen them at a Metal Fest Type of Show in Virginia it was way back in the late 80's - early 90's - they gave me autographed stuff to take back to my head shop / record store in Michigan. They were very cool....and they appreciated the fans
Was that at the Rabbits Foot?
The Montainview!!! May have been that place.
These guys were awesome. I'm pretty sure I was at this show. The 90's were really good to me. 😅😂
The Baltimore Beatles!
That, is, a, spectacular, brunette. Folks, if you never saw Hammers in the late 80's, you missed out. BIGTIME.
Remember seeing them at wilmers Park Brandywine Maryland late 70s early 80s
As someone who first learned of them all the way over in North Dakota in 1981, by the time 1991 rolled around they were known for Don't Close Your Eyes and Blow My Fuse - but my faves will always be from the first record. Wish I would have seen them live when the original lineup was intact.
Gosh this looks like so much fun!! I have never been to a show on July 4 either! The good ol days!!
Not that i ever need to be reminded, but damn this is why KIX is my favorite band of all time.
Amazing performance!! Amazing footage! Thank you for uploading!
That was awesome!!
Gonna miss these rockers! Thanks for the good times!! 🤘
