    • @foodandart5808
      @foodandart5808 3 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      @@sierra734 Nope. City macaques have too much garbage in their bodies from eating scraps of human food and of course exposure to plastics and manmade chemicals in a city environment. The labs want the wild-caught from forested areas that have no human presence and minimal chemical exposure. Which of course puts the remaining truly wild population under immense threat. That is why many lab macaques are now raised on farms - that in and of itself a grim situation, as the environment there causes all sorts of stress reactions that can decrease the value of the animals for testing. It's a fairly fine line of what the industry needs. These city macaques are literally junk animals where medical testing is concerned.

    I went there earlier this year. You can no longer go to the temple where they used to feed the monkeys because it is too dangerous. In fact, that whole street alongside that temple is pretty much deserted now. On the roundabout on one end there is a lady with a gun to stop them progressing towards King Narai's palace. At the other roundabout people still feed the monkeys, but there are locals with slingshots to help keep the monkeys away from people. In the main street I saw a monkey jump off the electrical wires onto a girls back to forcibly steal her chocolate milk, it got pretty aggressive when she didn't let go straight away. The rest of the city seemed fine though, it is just near this temple and the street nearby.

      Problem is, the tourists have left and the monkeys have no remainijng source of free food.
      When tourism was good (precovid) the monkeys ate good and were comfortable reproducing and their population exploded.
      Now that the tourist hand outs are gone, those same monkeys are looking for food and they will go anywhere to get it. They no longer even forage off the land. They have become reliant on humans for food. Monkeys have voracious appetites and never pass on food. They eat from the time they are up til sleep time.
      This problem is 100% the fault of humans.

    This is why our superiority complex as a species is important. It's what drove us to become the dominant apex predator and what has kept us at the top for so long. Do you think any one of those monkeys would show you the same mercy and compassion? Absolutely not. With an infestation of that magnitude, I'd be dropping those bitches left and right. I think it's been so long since we've really had to fight with other species over territory, that collectively, we've forgotten our primal roots and lost connection with our place in the world.

    • @Andytlp

      Animals are no threat beyond disease spread. As for territory we could wipe out most animal life within a few months if we actually tried. Our biggest threat remains ourselves. How about birth control laced food for them? It is put into bird seeds where there is an abundance of birds.

      There‘s too little research on this topic, they don’t know if these hormones will harm the monkeys or whether it would even work
