best of luck at the awards sam and co well deserved .. you all show the work that goes into farming and livestock ,, for that end of year that keeps all going until same time next year ,, enjoy the night ,,,
@irishdancer2753 Got to be in the right frame of mind 🤣 pointless paying a fortune waiting 2 years to see any return I no it's what you have to do but half the price of them be good but then again good on them geting them prices for 5 crop ewes !! Makes me want to sell some, but we're not 🤣
I got the day of school to go to Lockerbie to get some new lambs I thought I was not going to get eny but in the end I got 19 and that was the last last pen of the sale so o was pleased
There's some cheviots at longtown next Monday. I can't see them being any cheaper, The cheviots are in demand now for crossing. But good luck, I hope you manage to pick a few up somewhere!
You did the right thing not paying over the top for the sheep, You'll get some ewes when the time is right. There's no guarantee prices will be the same next time, so don't worry. Btw you're going to wow them at the awards, looking good Sam,can't wait to see you all dressed up. x 21:06
Hi Sam, being a Cheviot man myself, did you notice the very different way of dressing them for the sale compared with the Swales, on fattening the lambs i found with the Cheviots in a small well sheltered paddock on whatever grass, ad lib haylage and fattening pellet that 20 lambs would easily eat 150lbs every two days.
Yes some use the cheviot colour and some use like a swale dale colour. It all variety's. Interesting though!!We do have the rest of our lambs inside on haylage and pellets. Fingers crossed lamb trade stays up haha
Hi Sam and family , can you exsplaen wry you couler the sheep .when you sell and show the sheep . Thank you for sharing all you do. Take care and all the best. 😊😊😊👍👍👍
Eyebrows look great Sam. You’ll get used to them. Sheila is more vocal now and looks like she may have your hair colour. Part time job? Keep delivering great content and videos and your subs will increase so that TH-cam will hopefully provide those extra £s in time.
@robertbirkett6652 yes best of the best go lockerbie and lairg don't think they would appreciate me buying 10 tho 🤣 I would get laughed at 🤣 yes will see of get time to go. Thanks !
Loving your videos. Can Oliver not get part-time work? Does the Case pay for itself? Just curious as it did not from what you showed seem to do many days carting? Its crazy how little profit there is in farming and I put a lot of the blame on the government policies. Your doing a great job and hopefully the channel will keep growing and earn you an extra few bob
@ryanlennox684 Well, he went carting a few times with tractor and trailer..and it's paid for the tractor finance for the year so definitely we'll worth the long days ! There's little or no profit unless there's other income streams. Hopefully one day ! But also love showing real life as we go along. Hopefully, teaching the non farmers 😃🥰
not a good year to be increasing sheep numbers ....... breeding stock are a rob here this year ...........! store cattle are also eyewatering to buy . at the moment
@georgedoorley5628 Yes, it's not a good year to get into farming. But when is it ? 🤣 It's great that prices are up weee they should be on the on the other side.
@@Sam-shuttYes it can we found that out the hard way one year You have to build it up slowly and count how many come to feed at the start so you don't over feed them. Wheat bran caused a few problems too they're not good at regulating their intake when you feed grains. Good feed if you do it right though.
There wont be much profit in ewes at that money , good luck to the seller but they would need to do at least 6 seasons with twins to sell each year in order to ' wash their face' and by the sheep law of averages that wont happen . As for the goats , Snap , Crackle and Pop .Good luck at the awards.
@emmett1739 Nice names ! Yes, it will take 2/3 years to see a return, but if I kept my gimmers, then I would only rely on the tups... I just have to build up or not bother 🤣
Cheviot lambs are making £80-£100 this year. So a set of twins of the draft ewes would cover their purchase price. And the gimmers are going to have 4-5 crop for the buyer.
@Calum_1940 Yes would be ideal. But wanting to breed tips and keep replacement gimmers but otherwise yes it's same as last year, just more money involved 🤣
i didn't think the first batches of sheep were that dear......£120/140 /150........what were you saying the other day when you were selling sheep ........don't want to be the first sheep in the sale ring....... tjherefore now your looking to buy some sheep surely the one's to buy will be the first one's in the ring .......if there suitable of course........one persons loss is another persons gain
😊 Good morning Sam, please delete this if I am suggesting something that should not happen. 🤫. There is another you tuber. Who has sheep. Lot's of them. He is a good distance north of you. . He has said on his channel he sells small numbers of sheep to people who contact him. All proper paperwork etc. . Just avoiding the auction fee's. . Could you not ask through your channel and social media sites if anyone has some sheep for sale. .🤔 I don't want you getting into trouble with this suggestion 😂😂
@petercross8871 oh no, it's fine thanks for thinking about me 🤣 Possibly a few I could buy from home . Wanting bigger and better than ours at home and ours are pretty big so I have a good eye🤣 just prices but, will see..... thanks for the suggestion
The hard part is knowing when to keep your hand in your pocket - well done.
Correct 🤣 still gutted but We've got a solution 🤣
@@Sam-shutt That is lovely to hear but you strike me as the sort of organised person who would have a solution. 😃

@simonwhyld3003 Bit to far for me but would of loved to !
Some sheep are more ‘brown/darker colour than others
Is that a dye they use?
@joanne26 Yes, they use a colour. It's like makeup. Make them look the best. Darker body makes the white whiter

I ve fattened lambs on rolled oats or barley might be cheaper than fattening nuts
To much barley and they bloat ? We heard. Can to much barley kill?
