The first two houses didn't look too bad at all, I've seen families live long term in a lot worse conditions. I'd have taken one of the fallen fruits and tried to grow the tree myself!. The height measuring marks on the door shows that it was once a happy laughter filled home. It's so sad to see these lovely houses fall into disrepair and then demolished (all in the name of greed) to be replaced with bland boxes. Good to see the bricks are being salvaged from the last house. Oh if all those walls could talk what stories we'd hear! Thanks for the video, new subbie here from Ireland.
Interesting tours, Paul. :-) The last of those three reminded me of an Adelaide house I lived in during my poor-student days (the late ’70s). It was a turn-of-century building owned by the Highways Department, waiting for demolition (the entire side of the street was slated for demolition in order to widen the street - Nelson St, Stepney). We were squatting in it until asked to move out by the Hwys Dept. We struck a deal to rent the place for $16/week on the condition that we’d move out on a fortnight’s notice when the Dept was ready to demolish. Lived there for two years before we were asked to go. We announced the fact to our friends, many of whom were restoring similar-vintage houses, and called a demolition party for the weekend. About 40 folk turned up with their tools and trucks. At the end of the two-day ‘party’ (yes, we *did* party - smoked lots of weed!) there was nothing left but the masonry walls. Everything else - the flooring, the plumbing, the entire roof, all doors, windows, and fittings, four white marble fireplaces, even the tessellated tiles on the verandah - went to be repurposed in my friends’ houses. When the Hwys Dept came with their machines on the Monday, the demolition workers were somewhat peeved, as they were used to taking all the goodies for themselves (unofficially of course lol). All that was left for them to do was push over the walls. Love your work!
Gosh, the first home,I wanted to get in the video with a shovel an bucket an save some of those lovely plants an rose bush! 🌹 Thanks paul,Paul, watching from Felton,Missouri.

I’m new to your channel and an Adelaide resident for 21 years, homes where made so nicely back in the day, dble brick 🧱 walls, small kitchen and other main living areas where made much bigger. I live in the Valley View area and only 2 streets alway from me I’ve seen so many nice old homes knocked down then they build 2, 3 or 4 slim built homes are put on the one piece of land and this has happened all in one street
More and more lovely homes gone to developers. Sitting for 10 years you said, its just sad. Breaks your heart seeing the kids heights recorded on that door of previous owners.
I hate developers with a passion. Not to mention councils and the state's Planning department which enable developers. This is anzac hwy. Everything is coming down on this stretch of road.

My Olds used to talk with a certain amount of worry, about "Bay of Biscay soil", which is the local Adelaide name given to the reactive clay soil predominant in the Adelaide Plain, on which most of Adelaide is built. G’day mate, just a heads up in case you don’t know. Make sure you get permission from the relevant people to access these sites you explore, otherwise you are trespassing. Trespassing is a criminal activity, and it is against the law to make money from criminal activity in Australia.
