  • So a few viewers and a couple of riding buddies have been asking me if I plan on replacing my 2014 Yamaha Super Tenere anytime soon. They cited a variety of capable adventure bikes on the market now as a reason to look elsewhere. No doubt there are some great bikes out there. Some that I've considered are:
2021 BMW R1250GSA: Refined, smooth engine, good tech,
-2021 Ducati Multistrada: awesome tech, smooth, powerful, great looking bike
-2021 KTM 1290 Super Adventure: An absolute beast
For now, I plan on holding on to the ST for a little while longer

Your fondness for the pups is endearing. Bought a 2015 ES with 27,000 miles May 2021. October 2022 now at 49,000 miles. I've seen much of Washington, Idaho and Oregon, a tiny bit of Montana. I rode Lolo pass from Idaho into Montana, 99 miles of mostly high speed corners, filled up, turned around and rode back. The reliability is equaled by the value and comfort, no other heavy ADV bike does this as well imo. Can't think of a better bike for me!

I just picked up a 2017 Yamaha super tenere with 2400 miles on it fully loaded with alt Ryder crash bars skid plate headlight protector bar risers happy trails pannier rack with locking tusk steel cases and the SW Motech clip on tank dag with charging ability and the alt rider aftermarket windshield 4 inches higher than stock. Holy crap I feel like I’m bragging now LOL just excited. I’ve been watching your videos and other videos about the 10ere and now I finally have one yay. Thanks for all your videos and forget about the GS she’s a high maintenance pavement Princess! Lol just kidding I know she’s a very capable machine as long as you keep up the high maintenance.

I started the trend with my riding friend "Toronto Riders" that the Super Tenere is the best motorcycle in the world (period) happy 2015 ES user with more than 60.000Km and a lot more to go!... indestructible bike

My friends and I used to ride (still do) Dr650's and after much debate it was decided the best bike out there, in our minds, is probably the Super Tenere. My buddy went out a year later and ended up finding a used DL1000 he fell in love with, and I ended up with a Super. Yup, we were right :D

I have a 2019 BMW R1250 GSA and my number one dislike is the head locations, I'm 6' 3" and I'm often forgetting their location and kicking the heads with my shin bone. Not an issue with boots on but when you jump on without, ouch! I'm with you, if the Super T gets a tech update, maybe I'll follow you. The GSA TFT and Fuel tank size is it's #1 & 2 best feature.

I hear you with wishing they lived longer. We lost 2 of them only 2 months apart in 2019. One was 17 and the other who was my little soulmate was 14. We had three and the youngest took it pretty hard and was depressed so we ended up getting him a little buddy so now we have two of them, one just turned 3 and the other will be 8 next month. Nice video btw.

Nice video & commentary. I really like the Super Tenere and thinking of buying one for a long distance trip. I was curious about the area you were riding...looked like a very nice place, but you said, "better know where you are going, have some protection on ya"... coming from an area where we don't carry "protection" is this common place in Texas. Thanks again, nice video & bike!

How would u rate the comfort of the super tenere vs goldwing. Not comparing heated seats vs no just comfort?
And how good is wind protection on super tenere?

    • @RobsMotovlogs
      @RobsMotovlogs  ปีที่แล้ว

No comparison. The Goldwing is much more comfortable. However the ST isnt that bad
My biggest complaint about the ST is riding in mild to moderate crosswinds. Conversely the goldwing is very solid.

I am fortunate to have all the bikes you are looking at and the superten, let me sing the praises of the yamaha, IF I could only have ONE touring bike that would be the tenere, cheap and easy to get parts, stone reliable. My Gsa is more comfortable, but parts are $$$$$$$$$, same with the multistrada, parts are usually on back order for months, very hard to work on. the 1290 sa, which im going on a long trip on tomorrow, is great but it has a chain, and I carry an extra fuelpump..... quick camping tip- get two 6x4 walmart tarps, great to put infront of the tent to get stuff off without tracking dirt in your tent, the other is a great quick bike cover , they pack light n tight.

Ive had alot of bikes during my 43 rears of riding and my 2011 super tenere is the best out of them all.
It does sealed and gravel roads exceptionally well.

I’ve a 1st Gen. Found at auction cheap. It had been abused terribly but I went through it and it’s totally sorted. It’s quite the sensible machine. I came from BMW’s. I’ve no reason to go back to Beemer. If I came across a deal on a second Gen ST I might consider it however at $125 a year annual insurance premium and cheap taxes and cheap ez maintenance, I might as well just stick with the old reliable 2012.

Had two SuperT’s, sold the last one to buy a 1200GSA, owned it 2 years, rode it everywhere, sold it and bought another SuperTenere. Enough said.

  • @barendfourie6687

The cost of ownership of the gsa is much higher even more so if you add the difference in price.

Nothing beats value of S10 in its category. One can do easy 500-600 miles a day, ride through crappy weather, on crappy roads, diy service, put cheapest gas you can find and keep rolling. It is heavy mofo but, that is also good thing about it.

8 years is nothing for a Super Tenere, known for legendary reliability. It would be a mistake to replace that bike for that reason alone. I read a lot about motorcycles, especially adventure bikes, and watch tons of videos in the search for my next bike. I like GS's, but I find them confusing because it's easy to find tons of negative ownership-ending problems experienced by former owners but also tons of positive ownership experiences by people on their 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. GS. KTMs seem to be great bikes for people who must have their power/suspension and who don't mind coaxing them along, but reports of KTM reliability issues are legion. Knowing how you ride and what you've been riding, I would not recommend either the GS or KTM to replace your ST; however, if you lost your ST and wanted to replace it with another large adventure bike, I'd point you toward the GS. Seems like it would be less of a reliability gamble than the KTM and would suit your riding style better.

    • @RobsMotovlogs

Mark thanks for the reply. Yes i agree, from the reliability perspective it may be a mistake to swap the ST for another adv bike at this point
