    Thank you for sharing - this is great information and I'm glad you figured it out. I had no idea that the locals simply do the treatment regularly to ensure no issues. We just spent 4 days in Quito then 4 days in Mindo. I have always used bottled water for brushing when travelling, but will take coffee from anyone at anytime. Our first month long scouting trip we avoided "street food" because we knew we simply didn't have the right gut bacteria, but were more adventurous on this last trip. I'm sure anything we picked up will take some time to multiply to the point of discomfort, so I'm going to add some fresh papaya to our diets (thank goodness for being in Florida).

    Thank you for sharing. I heard the locals do the treatment in preventive measure. Coming from Sweden these kind of issues are very rare. I only caught it once and that was actually in USA. It took the Swedish healthcare system quite a while to figure out what was wrong with me.

    • @KrisandMike
      @KrisandMike  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I guess it kind of is preventive as many parasites take a while before symptoms show and if you take the treatment regularly you fix things beforehand.

      I have been trying to get medicine like that here in USA and it's not available over the counter been sick a long time I'll probably have to come all the way out there to get it and for $3.50 what a deal.. so glad I saw this video I love all your videos and planing a trip to come very soon I'm a future ex pat.. we have so many things in common I feel like I can relate spending 30 years in Alaska and the 10 in Hawaii but that is where I got sick and been trying to figure out what is wrong but drs have no clue.. prices in Hawaii are crazy and now mainland so looks like I'm coming down as North America hasn't really been my kind of place I loved Hawaii but time to see other countries..🙏🏽 thanks for this video it's sad I have to leave this country to get medicine.. but I know there are bigger reasons behind that and the industry makes alot for their ignorance.. much love from Austin Texas!! Thanks again for sharing your journey!!

    This was a great and informative video…… until you started talking about the worm in the ladies brain. Hahaha! I don’t mind mice, snakes, spiders but I’m so incredibly freaked out about worms. I rarely garden and if I do I have gloves on and screech when I see a worm. I hate when it rains here in Calgary and they’re on the sidewalk. I’ll be doing the preventative treatment route and will not be brushing my teeth with tap water anymore when visiting Ecuador!
    So glad you’re feeling better Kris!

    That's one of the huge advantages of not living in the US. I didn't track down a US equivalent of Parasi-Kit but, I did find one for Pazidol. Flagyl is not the same but, I assume the closest available. You need a prescription. Yeah, good luck with that. Online says a colonoscopy costs $3497, I'll bet you get one before you get a prescription and your insurance may not cover that even though they say they will. There's also a great chance you'll be misdiagnosed. It happens to me, most of the time.
    I admit I'm touchy right now about medical. I have one prescription I take for half of the starting dose of a super common diabetes drug. 3 weeks ago today I made an appointment with my nurse practitioner to get a (hopefully one year) refill. My appointment is for Oct 31, over 2 months to get an appointment. A really quick office visit and blood tests would be over $1000 without insurance. My insurance statement says they pay about 25% of that and they accept that as full payment. I have MediCare and pay $164.90 a month for Part B. My insurance has been 100% paying the office visit and prescription costs. If I were in Ecuador, I would go to the pharmacy for a A1C test and the pills I take would be $14.40 for 90 days at Fybeca. Somewhere I saw the cost for a A1C test in Ecuador is $2-$4. Guess which path I'd rather take.
