  • Checking and a test ride after getting it running.
    Top speed on this version (PA50 I) is only 20 mph, I barely broke 15 mph, with downhill top speed of 23 mph per GPS on my phone.
    Everything works & engine has plenty of power, pulls from a stop no problem - I think wear on the variator plate is stopping the rollers from reaching their full travel.
    The items shown at the end are all waiting to be installed in Parts 3 and beyond.

    I am building up a Hobbit as well using many of the same components as you. Taking my sweet time and looking forward to watching this continuing series. Nice work, on the bike and the vids.

    My dad had one of these back in the late 70s. We lived in the UP of Michigan so he could only use it a few months of the year.

    Looking for one now but our state did not have the slower speed restriction back then so they are rare. Plus there's plenty of colleges around so the students ate them for breakfast. Going to have to travel for a decent one

    Looking everywhere for how much weight these little bikes are capable of carrying. I'm not little, but considering buying one I found.

    Hello, I thought your video was a good example of how a Hobbit rides.
    I have the same color Hobbit as you and I also bought the same parts/kits as well. I was wondering what you did about the throttle cable for the Malossi carb kit. I just got mine and learned that the stock cable will not work. What cable did you use?? Thanks

      Gavin Hutchins The Malossi kit I bought came with a new Cable. Next video will show how I installed it, I just have to get around to finishing it and uploading (I can't explain because it was a while ago).

    I bought this bike as a 15 year old in 78. I was really upset that it only went 20mph. Honda made the same bike in a yellow color in the same year that went 30mph. I don't know why one was faster than the other. They were both called PA50

      It was to justify different licensing classes in some states. In NY, for example, the 20 mph one didnt require a helmet or insurance, but the 30 mph version would.

    • @martyjoseph9507
      @martyjoseph9507 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The slower one was a PA50i while the faster one had two i's. The reason was to meet certain laws in a few states. The next moped Honda came out with had an Iowa version, being the slow one since Iowa still had the speed restrictions like some states. This continued into the 80's with the Honda Spree and Elite models. I believe the single and double i on the Hobbits was just too confusing for people to understand and led to frustration.

    Question . but not about this bike in particular . I would like to know if the motoped is legal on roads, like will having a 125 cc motor be classified as illegal on the streets . because I keep seeing people with motoped bikes on TH-cam with 125cc engines going faster then 30mph on roads. Would that just mean you need a license to go any faster than that. also, how much do the 125cc engines cost and where do u get them from and what company do u recommend since I would like to replace the stock 49cc engine. It would be so fun to own one in the future and go to trails while being able to hit it on roads. Thanks.plz reply

      I had the Honda PA50-II back in 1981-82. Mine would only hit about 27-30mph, while my buddy’s Vespa moped would top out at 40mph. Forget what mode his Vespa was since it was almost 40 years ago!😂 But great memories seeing this video.👍🏼

    my husband says they put out a lot of black smoke from the engine & take a special mixture of gas-is this true?

    • @n1bpd
      @n1bpd  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +pat murphy It's a 2 stroke engine, You just have to add 2 stroke oil to the gasoline before you put it into the gas tank. They certainly put out more emissions than a 4 stroke, but if it's putting out a lot of smoke then there's too much oil in the gas.

      @@westriverjennin2490 nice I jest bought one. That's why I'm here😂. I put a 70cc kit on mine and a proma pipe. Everything else is 100% stock components and it dose 45mph😂. The thing still stinks going uphill so I put lighter roller weights in it and now it dose 35mph uphill and the max speed is..................35mph😂😂. Unfortunately the lighter roller weights added torque but sacrificed top speed. I live in the country where there's a lot of hills and I jest use it to get to the farm and back. Its definitely more fun then the pickup truck. 😂 I love it!

      isaac LaMastra nice bro but did you have any problems with getting a spark to go cause mine won’t go with my Magneto clean so almost there

    • @threewheelerdonuts8284
      @threewheelerdonuts8284 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@westriverjennin2490 yes I did have problems with the spark.when I would get on the throttle it sounded like someone was hitting the Kill switch. So what I did readjusted the points and the bike ran great after that.

    • @westriverjennin2490
      @westriverjennin2490 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      isaac LaMastra what points are you talking about? I believe my ignition coil doesn’t have its condenser on top like it’s been ripped off so like it’s just not giving any hits to the piston
