Hi Dan 👋 I very rarely sit and watch a video , let alone 58 mins , in it's entirely. I was glued to my seat...absolutely breathtaking scenery and video...along with great commentary 👌 Awesome work 👍👍 DD
Ha Derail Darrell I love your name! Wow Darrell thank you so so much this is beyond generous of you! I am so glad you think so highly of this video. It is an amazing piece of railroad that they built out there. I like to call it the badlands of Eastern Washington. I want you to know your donation is directly going to help me in a big way very soon. I'm taking two weeks to go film and chase the UP 4014 Big Boy in July first from Salt Lake Westbound to Oroville CA and then a second time from Ogden Eastbound to Cheyenne. I have been setting aside my earnings from TH-cam for the last few months to help fund that and you too are helping to make that happen! Thank you thank you so much!
Thanks! These videos are extremely well done, both visually and acoustically. And I find them very instructive for designing scenery for model railroads. There are a lot of great ideas to be found here - straight from the prototype (real thing).👍
George thank you so much this is very generous of you! Yes I have had others comment like you as well and it does seem like it would be the perfect resource! I want you to know I have been saving my earnings from TH-cam for a few months now and all of that along with your donation here is going to help fund my adventures next month when I chase and film the UP 4014 Big Boy for two weeks! First from Salt Lake to Oroville and then Ogden to Cheyenne. I very much appreciate the help!
As stated already-we’re running out of adjectives to describe your work. Your editing and voice overs are a great enhancement and thanks for taking the time. As you flew over the upper portion of the Ayer all I could think of was how much dynamite was needed to blast through that rock. The abandoned town of Ayer, WA was established as a crew change point halfway between Hermiston, OR (before the days of Hinkle) and Spokane or Wallace/Kellogg. The motivation to originally build this line was to reach the mines of Northern Idaho. In fact for many decades there was only one train per day, each direction , on the Spokane International between Spokane and Canada. Now that’s greatly changed with UP and CPKC heavy into PSR. Lastly I pity the conductor who may have to walk their train because of a mechanical issue. Thanks again for making my day!
Ha thanks Bill I appreciate that. I did not know that about the mines in Idaho, very neat! Yes traffic these days is pretty decent on the line. I have even been told CP wants to send UP more trains then they do but UP won't let them.
The Union Pacific's Ayers Subdivision is a beautiful piece of railroad with its spectacular winding way along the Palouse, Snake and Columbia Rivers. The drone footage along the route captured the beauty of the landscape. I especially liked the passage of the train with the Palouse River Falls and the tranquil scene along the Snake River with the mirror like reflection of the train. You use the drone to bring out the power of the trains and the beauty of the scenery that the train is traveling through. Thank you, Dan, for documenting these trains as they traveled on the Ayers Subdivision and for making it possible for most of your viewers to enjoy a portion of the Union Pacific Railroad that we will never have the opportunity to view in person.
Thank you so much Thomas you're too kind! It really is quite magnificent out there and I'm glad I can bring it here for you and everyone else to enjoy!
Robert thank you so very much this is extremely generous! I will definitely do my best to continue bringing you and others the very best that I can! I want you to know that your donation will be directly helping me to chase and film the UP 4014 Big Boy next month for two weeks. I've been saving all of my earnings from TH-cam for the past few months to help fund a couple of trips. I'll first chase and film it from Salt Lake to Oroville and then a second trip I'll chase it from Ogden back to Cheyenne. It's going to be great and you are helping to make it possible!
Thanks! Man, where do I begin. So much eye candy and treats in this one. Probably the most awesome video you have posted so far. Rugged, indeed. Tunnel 17 and surrounding area, backing up at 45mph! Cow Creek viaduct, 4 mile chase! amazing train trench and river canyon, and that awesome Palouse Falls, my white whale. I have been close a few times but never made it there. I didn’t have a drone at the time anyway. Seeing all those tunnels and trenches and viaducts including the Joso viaduct I can’t help but marvel at what it must’ve taken to build that line. The reflection footage along the Snake River, with the train, the sky and the clouds, is absolutely amazing and the icing on the cake. I really enjoy all the graphics pointing things out and I love seeing you and your parking places for flying. Wow, I could just go on and on, but I run out of superlatives and wind up repeating myself. Your videos certainly appeal to rail fans and flyers both. Keep it up, sir. 🖖
Thank you so much Rick this is very generous of you! I agree I am so proud of this video and it is one of my favorite to be bringing to you and everyone else. It's amazing how many breathtaking things there are to see in not too far of a distance. Your donation directly help to bring you and others more quality content down the road. I'm currently saving all of my TH-cam funds to help pay for going out next month and catching the UP 4014 Big Boy for a week in Utah, Nevada, and California. Then a week later I'll go out again and film it in Idaho and Wyoming. It's going to be great and this really helps!
like the old Union Pacific slogan "we will deliver" - as soon a new video appears in my YT subscription - i know "Railfan Dan will deliver"! Great as always! Greetings from Germany
I try to watch all your videos, Dan, and enjoy them all. But this is an absolute masterpiece. For me, in the UK, seeing all those huge expanses of land with hardly any human activity or occupation visible is an almost spiritual experience. Your filming technique is now top quality and I'll re-watch this and recommend it to friends, not just railroad fans. Thanks for all your work.
Thanks so much I'm so glad you try to see them all! This one is a major achievement for myself personally so I'm really glad you think so highly of it. I have long wanted to shoot all of these locations back to back and put them in a single video. Very happy with the end result! It really is amazing to be out there alone with sometimes barely any cars driving by. I love it! Thanks again!
Nothing like to see a train from a drones perspective for where ever it goes through the magnificent surroundings and of course with your perfect editing makes it truly well done masterpieces
Just watching these trains remains me of my youth. My grand parents lived in San Diego, on Commercial Ave, and that street had railroad tracks, used daily by a short train that went to Lemon Grove and back to the city daily. I used to have many flatten pennys by putting them on the tracks and watching the train flatten them. This back in the forties when I was a preteen.
I like the various CPKC engines here. There's lots of beauty in this movie. From the impressive rock walls to the awesome viaducts and everything in between. I love the big PCA factory, it looks amazing from the air. The Columbia River is huge and impressive. Fantastic aerial footage Dan. I'm sure it was great spending three days with your friends chasing trains. The end result is another high quality video.
Thanks so much Z! Yeah that PCA facility is massive! It was an amazing time and sometimes I'm blown away how much I can record in just 2 or 3 days worth of time!
Wow, I've never seen so many highlights in one video before!. Great locations. Outstanding work! Thank you so much for taking the time to give us these breathtaking views of the important train traffic and the spectacular scenery.
Well thanks a lot you're too kind! So glad you enjoyed so much! This video was actually a big accomplishment for me in capturing multiple locations I had long desired. To have done so with as many as I did in just a few days was amazing.
Thank you so much this is very generous of you! I'm humbled you think so highly of my work. Your donation will go directly to helping fund more adventures for me to help bring you and others more quality content! @@TheRailfanDan So happy to hear that! Big Boy is one of our favorites! We often talk about when you mentioned you were going to try to do that trip and hoped you would be able to!! It's going to be awesome 😎
@@isabellame7326 Yes I am and I am very excited! I am just finalizing my plans this weekend for the whole thing. I will take a week off from work and chase it Westbound from Salt Lake to Oroville CA. I'll then take another week off and chase it Eastbound from Ogden to Cheyenne. Hopefully it's going to be a whole lot of footage!
Without doubt the most stunning railway video I have ever seen. Your editing coupled with the commentary and background music is unbelievable. Have to admit I have taken numerous screenshots of the locations you captured. Will view it again on my large screen TV. Many thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much Mick you're too kind! I'm so glad you enjoyed it so much! This one was actually a big accomplishment for me. For years I have wanted to film many of these locations and put them in one video together.
By far the best video I've seen in a long long time. A truly magnificent video. EXTRAORDINARILY WELL DONE!! Thank you Dan for all your efforts to bring this video forward!!
I just had to do it: took a screenshot at 13:00 and make it my new screensaver on my pc. Just: wauw!! And I have no other words for the rest of the video. I just wish there was a camera when they build this railway. They did an amazing job!

Fantastic video, Jenny and i watched it twice. Awesome music choices with the video that made it much more relaxing. That was some rugged terrain indeed. We always look forward to watching your content and thank you so much for sharing all the hard work that you do with all of us. Have a wonderful rest of your week.(Steve)
Thanks so much Steve wow I can't believe you watched it twice! I'm so glad you enjoyed that much! This one was a big achievement for me. For years I have wanted to put a video together with all of these locations in it and I'm so glad with how this turned out!

Dan, these are some breathtaking shots. Your offspring will have some valuable videos in their possession. Blessings to you and your God given talent. He has given you a grand canvas on which to show His earthly creation ...and it was good.
Hi Dan. I’m watching from Australia this morning. Spectacular scenery and great commentary. Love it when you guys estimate the speed of the trains and track speed. Keep up the great work. Stay safe.
Beautiful railroad! I just love rugged igneous rock carved out for tracks! No better way to capture it than drone! Great inspiring work! Loved the close up of the DPUs crossing Joso.
That's so much Jeremy I am glad you could get a look at this one and hopefully you can make it up this way for some videos someday as well. It really is amazing what they built!
You sure do have good fortune with weather and timing! The reflections in the water are outstanding! Every time I see Palouse falls it reminds me I gotta see that, maybe soon! I can see why you love this part of the country so much. Also like how you added the map at beginning, and more narration, and the music match up is perfect 🤩 Very well done Dan, sure did enjoy this 👏
Thanks a lot Mom I have long wanted to put many of these locations together in one video so it was amazing I captured this much in basically less than 3 days. I like adding the maps too if it's a long video where places will be linked to one another. I did have so great match ups with the music in this one which much of the time is a happy accident!
Your videos are a great way for me to enjoy my morning coffee. The reflection scene in this one was just awesome. Nice work! Congrats on upgrading to an Inspire.
Thanks a lot I'm so glad you enjoy! Friends and I waited for that train with the reflection for about 2 hours and a couple of moments I was very close to leaving. So glad I stayed!
@@SouthernAlbertaRail Thanks Grant! Your comment popped up as a notification with no specification of what video you commented on but I immediately knew halfway through reading which one you were talking about. We waited 2 hours for that train and I almost left before hand. Worth the wait!
Been looking forward to this one! Just happened to have my phone in my hand when you posted it! Yours are my favorites! Streaming on my TV now....see ya later... Gonna get lost now 😎
Oh my gosh! Where do we start?! The reflection, the rugged terrain, the Joso bridge! This one is probably one of our favorites, what a great way to start a Saturday, thank you! We did see your truck several times, it's a fun game we play, "where's Dan"?
Terrific video,Dan With a family member living in this region, I have been able to view the area from the ground but the views you provide make me more envious about this region in our great country.
As I have commented to you before, I think you do too early marvelous photography and voiceover, and I love the music. It fits the majestic nature of your beautiful photography. Thank you so much and looking forward as I said before two your photography of 4014 on its trip from Utah and Wyoming to Roseville, thanks once again
Well thank you Wilbert you are too kind! Yes getting the music right is a big deal to me and something I spend quite a bit of time on. Sometimes searching for hours to find what I think will fit well. I depart this Thursday on the 4th of July to catch up with the 4014 Big Boy and it's going to be a blast!
Dan, your work is incredible. I loved every second of this video, excellent source for scenery application ideas for my model railroad. WOW! thank you so much for this. Can you fly me around in your drone? I must have paused a hundred times to capture all the details.
I am a RR brat. I grew up in North Platte Nebraska. Home of the largest classification yard in the world. My dad was Electrical Supervisor of NE/KS division. At one time I had 28 relatives on the Union Pacific Railroad. Love the trains. Keep up the amazing work ❤️
I remember watching an earlier video of yours a few years ago of a train going the other way. It is one of several from around that time that got me really hooked on your channel and telling all my train club friends they should watch Railman Dan.
Nice work! My cousins own a 3,500-acre wheat ranch south of there in Columbia County. I have medium format and 35mm landscape photos of the Joso High Bridge there at Lyons Ferry (aka Perry WA). Very scenic, rugged rail rout. Alternate PNW rugged, steep sided routes? BNSF Stevens Pass route; Old Milwaukee RD in the Cascade Range and across the ID MT border; BNSF Stampede route in the Yakima River Canyon; UP route from Pendleton to Boise through the Blue Mountains. But the Ayer Subdivision takes the cake.
Alot of very great footage and with awesome scenery as well. Yes, you did have me wondering how you were able to follow that one train continuously. Good idea.
Why every big studio is not fighting over you is a mystery to me, Dan! You present the Northwest that I live in and have traveled regularly so very well!
Ha wow thank you so much you're too kind! Well the kind comments like yours and other fans really do help me to know that I'm doing something right and to keep on doing what I'm already doing.
You are amazing; you have to plan these out and figure out where the best spot for operating your drone would be. Fabulous filming, love you narrating the video. God bless you; stay safe out there. 🙏❤️
Thank you so much Valerie you're too kind! I can indeed confirm I do spend a lot of time on Google Maps finding locations where I can stand and operate the drone to film specific locations. That's a major part of it for me. I'm so glad you're enjoying!
Yet another fantastic Railfan Dan production! As for ruggedness I think a line over in British Columbia could compete. The Kettle Valley Railrod, known as McCullochs wonder. Unfortunately like the SP&S upper part the KVR has long since been abondend by the CP.
I wish I had saved more superlatives and outstanding comments from prior reviews for this one.
@@TheRailfanDan Your very welcome and yes we did when we had fiend's over we showed another one of your videos to them. Actually we can always watch your videos more than once or even twice especially if we need to relax. We are so glad you are able to do this and achieve the goals that you are after to bring such awesome content to all of us. Have a great rest of your week Dan. (Steve)
Fantastic video. Great watch
Dan, these are some breathtaking shots. Your offspring will have some valuable videos in their possession. Blessings to you and your God given talent. He has given you a grand canvas on which to show His earthly creation ...and it was good.
Thanks so much Jerry you're too kind!
Hi Dan. I’m watching from Australia this morning. Spectacular scenery and great commentary. Love it when you guys estimate the speed of the trains and track speed. Keep up the great work. Stay safe.
Thanks so very much Rob I love hearing from my fans from other countries and continents!
WELL DONE! Your best yet!
@@TheRailfanDan I’ll have to! But it sure begs for an aerial view!
What fantastic pictures! 🎉

Great footage friend, greetings from Brazil.
Thanks so much I'm so glad you're enjoying from Brazil!
That viaduct is awsome! Huge
Truely impressive display RD, outstanding
Thanks so much!
Dan, your vids never cease to amaze!!!
Hey thanks so much you're too kind!
Your videos are getting better and better. I like the narration so I know where we are in viewing.
Absolutely a masterpiece! I don’t know what award this video would be eligible for but it must be submitted because it deserves it❤
Well thanks very much I'm humbled you think so! That would be an honor!
Hey, I know you!!! *waves*
Very nice and good train 🚆 journey may you be happy, healthy and successful always
Just wonderful.
Certainly breathtaking views.. Cheers 👍
Excellent video. Beautiful scenery.
:Love your work, Dan.....please give us more!!!!
Thanks so much and will do!
Tres Bon Magnifique !!!
Magnifico, espetacular...
Thank you!
That reflection pace shot at 34 minutes is amazing Dan. Loved this one! -grant
Hey thanks again very much! Ha yes many like to play where's Dan? I'm so glad you enjoyed!
Well done! Thanks for what all the videos. Keep it up!
Thanks so much I will try my best!
What a beautiful day on the Snake River - way calmer wthan when I passed down it many years ago now.
I couldn't believe how calm it was AND no boats to ripple the water ahead of the train appearing.
Good job to you and Jake just keep up the good work
Terrific video,Dan
With a family member living in this region, I have been able to view the area from the ground but the views you provide make me more envious about this region in our great country.
Thanks so much Richard glad you enjoyed! Yes it is amazing what possibilities open up with drones.
Dan the man great scenes with your drone
Excellent, well done Dan!
Thanks a lot!
Thanks a lot Mike! I'm so glad you enjoyed and yeah I wish I could fly around on my drone!
Fantastic footage!
Thank you 👍
I am a RR brat. I grew up in North Platte Nebraska. Home of the largest classification yard in the world. My dad was Electrical Supervisor of NE/KS division. At one time I had 28 relatives on the Union Pacific Railroad. Love the trains. Keep up the amazing work ❤️
great and big trains, great bridges , great landscape,,,, everything is more than great in USA
Thanks so much!
Fantastic video
Awesome video! Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much I'll do my best!
Beautiful !!
I remember watching an earlier video of yours a few years ago of a train going the other way. It is one of several from around that time that got me really hooked on your channel and telling all my train club friends they should watch Railman Dan.
Well thanks Tony that's great! I'm so glad you are letting others know!
Very cool! It is so photogenic there aside from the Joso Viaduct. I love it out there and many of the other locations you mentioned.
Fantástico👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
That's pretty close to perfection.
Well thanks so much Richard!
Alot of very great footage and with awesome scenery as well. Yes, you did have me wondering how you were able to follow that one train continuously. Good idea.
Thank you!
Beautiful video 20:16
Why every big studio is not fighting over you is a mystery to me, Dan!
You present the Northwest that I live in and have traveled regularly so very well!
Ha wow thank you so much you're too kind! Well the kind comments like yours and other fans really do help me to know that I'm doing something right and to keep on doing what I'm already doing.
Dan is a don good work❤
You are amazing; you have to plan these out and figure out where the best spot for operating your drone would be.
Thanks so much and yes I wouldn't argue this as the most rugged railroad in all of North America just the Northwest of the States.
