FINALLY fixed it [Squier Classic Vibe '60s Jazzmaster Loctite Bridge Modification]

  • This is the Squier CV 60s Jazzmaster (sonic blue, baby!).
    The bridges on these guitars drop over time, particularly if you've done the shim mod. Sure you can adjust the bridge after every few hours of play time, but the only real way to fix it is to use blue Loctite on the bridge screws so they don't move from the vibrations of jamming sweet sweet licks. You're in luck if you don't play sweet licks though. The bridge stays put. (No it doesn't.)
    This is me simply talking and showing you how easy it is to do this mod. Boring. Okay? Okay, so watch the videos linked here instead ...

    I fixed three JM's with the loctite trick and one has to be really careful not break the ground, because the loctite isn't conductive. Use too much and it seals off, disconnecting the little screw inside from the grounding. Solution could be a small metal spring, get one out of a ballpoint or so... works for me.

    Thanks for this video! I just got one of these guitars a few weeks ago and I noticed very early on that the bridge was sinking. I contacted the vendor who sold it to me (a very large well known company) and they said they've never heard this complaint before. I was surprised by their lack of response. They encouraged me to find a certified Squier repair shop, have it assessed and fixed and then they "may be able to help with the repair costs". Fortunately, I've been working on cars, houses and guitars for many years so I had the very same idea of using Loctite just like you. I haven't done it yet so that's why I'm glad you provided this video to confirm the validity of my idea. Thank you!

    Use purple loctite. Does same function as blue but is easier to undo. I’ve used it in precision air rifles where there is lots of pressure and vibration. Blue I use automotively where I can get a 6” wrench or a power tool to loosen a fastener.

    I picked up one of those Jazzmasters earlier this year. I’m having the same issue and might give the Locktight a try but I might also give plumbers tape a go and see if it does the same thing but perhaps easier to remove if I wanted to. Thanks for the video!

    Thanks for this video! I was setting up my recently acquired Jazzmaster yesterday and in order to reduce the wobbling bridge, I used 2 washers to which I made indents inward. To secure them in the pickguard holes, I used double sided tape. If they stay put, I’ll leave them if not I may have to put glue. Hopefully there won’t be any rattling.

    There are multiple loctite types, some are much more permanent than others, you probably want to use the less strong one or you will never be able to adjust the bridge again should you want to. I think the variant is called 222 but check carefully.

    • @ArtOfShredYT
      @ArtOfShredYT  ปีที่แล้ว

      Blue is okay, purple is less strong. Red is the strongest. Most people use blue. It's difficult but not impossible to break the seal on it.

    Thank you for this video! Do you apply the Loctite, let it dry completely and put it back in after it is hardened out?
    Or do you put loctite on the screws and put it back while it is still liquid so it hardens out while screwed in?
    Thank you!

    Would this be solved by upgrading the bridge hardware with a Fender JM bridge? It seems like a real problem for a company to sell a guitar with a bridge that is going to cause the guitar to constantly go out of tune. Shouldn't Fender/Squier address this?

    Fender has a terrible quality these days, I have a Squier Jazzmaster 40's anniversary, and a Fender Vintera Jaguar I bought recently, I thought the Fender would be better set up because it costed me twice as much as the Squier, but no, it was the same old, I had to shim the neck on both of them and locktite the bridges, its a disgrace Fender even let these junk out the door, they are close to unplayable for crying out loud, don't think they even know how that bridge is supposed to work? since they are putting Gibson bridges on them now, those things wont even rock at all ffs. even a budget guitar should work, you shouldnt have to take a new guitar to a guitar tech the first thing after you get it, what a joke of a brand lol, its a good thing I have the tools to set them up my self, anyways, they play and sound great now after all work, but it costed me more than I wish it did. cheers!
