TO NOTE: Starting around 3:45 it does get a bit.. High pitched thanks to my camera being right next to the tv while it's turned on. I apologize in advance for any sensitive ears, since I can't really hear the sounds in playback until the vid's uploaded.
Nice video and a very cute little set. I'm Sure I remember one of these from a caravan holiday I went on. Nice to see your vids coming thick and fast. love it and thank you 😁
I am also interested to see the difference between the Aperture Grille vs Shadow Mask vs Slot Mask. CRT technologies are not my expertise but I find them very interesting and reminds of times back in the day when my dad would fix CRT sets for the local area. 1994 so I was 14 lol, vintage for sure and also means I might be old 😊👍.
@@crawfordpritchard9604 Same here. I don’t know how to repair them, but I am a huge enthusiast. I have a NEC monitor that’s a shadow mask and I swear the composite on that thing is amazing.
Let me know if you decide you want to get rid of it lol. I've been trying to get my hands on one for a minute, I'm creating a mini VHS-display section on my media shelf and I want a 5" CRT to show movies on.
Awesome video ! It would be cool to see some VHS/DVD footage on CRTs you're testing to see how it would perform to do it's primarly thing : watch TV (just to see another usage but still i have a blast watching your video ;)
I definitely could hook up a DVD/VHS to it, I haven't tried yet since that specific combo player's buried under a couple consoles and stuff but I might show it off later >:)
Somehow Sony managed to make composite look really good. Same for the PSone Sony LCD, it has an "AV in" for composite video and stereo audio and the result is as good as composite could ever be.
Lmao this is not like these handheld walkman like portable tvs.. This is just generic little cube tv. These were a thing in 90s and early 00s. Made in china and most were b&w... Nothing special other than this being color.
I've tried out and seen the inside of enough of those little TVs that I can't say that I agree. The quality of these little Sony TVs is definitely better than the generic sets. It's more like the other name brand small color sets.
@@xargos Even if so, the fact sony took this generic form factor is already bad. It made them look same as the garbage from china. The fact they used a cheap off the shelf tube, rather than make their own didn't help. No wonder "watchman" never took off.
@@xargos the fact alone it is in exact same generic form factor as these cheap china sets, is pretty bad. Sony didn't even bother to make their own tube for this, so no wonder "watchman" failed.

So glad to see more videos recently! Looking forward to your video comparison of Aperture Grille vs. Shadow Mask vs. Slot Mask!

Great vid! I actually have one of these, it was a $10 thrift store find. It’s a fun novelty but I don’t actually have a great use case for it.

Awesome find ! love the Vaporwave look
Oh wow, I've never seen one of these. Reminds me a something I had back in the day and recently repurchased: Sony EV-DT1.

I did a RGB mod for my Amiga on this thing 🙂
Steave is the Goat in CRT life!!!
I got one of these for $30 at a local thrift store. Probably an overpay but I love it and use it all the time for testing stuff
I would kill for one of these when I was a kid...
Nice, I have one of these! Although the display is shifted to the side and I've got no idea how to fix that lol
Fun fact apparently this sony tv doesn't use a sony CRT tube for some reason
Because it's just a generic cube portable tv, which were a thing in 90s and early 00s.
glue a controller to the front there and its almost a gameboy
What a cool tv. Just subscribed :)

I have a portable TV from the early 1980s. It was a Sears brand, not sure of the original manufacturer though.

@@SuperShyGuyBros54321 well I got an idea what to do with it: These are pretty fun to smash with a hammer.
