HUGE SHOUT OUT TO ALAN! I just wanted to reach out & personally say thank you for uploading such rich content. I greatly appreciate you taking the time to fine tune & share your custom EQ settings. I've been an owner of a Bose Soundlink Mini II for many years & wanted something new. I did a LOT of research on BT speakers before settling on the Anker Soundcore Motion+. I tested out some other suggested EQ's and your EQ settings. Your settings sold me immediately. I guess it truly does boil down to personal preference and how we perceive sound, but your go-to EQ settings really sounds KICK-ASS! I connected my iPhone both to the Anker & to the Bose, I started playing a song & then would go back & forth switching between the two. The difference was mind-blowing. I genuinely thought I broke my Bose because it sounded like shite compared to the Anker (after applying your settings). So a big THANK-YOU for sharing this. P.S. Any thoughts on the Doss Soundbox XL? (This was my 2nd choice). Cheers

Thanks Alan for directing me towards the SM+. I just bought two of these beauties for £140 delivered from Amazon. Superb value. I have placed mine 15cm from the corner of a tiled wall on top of a microwave oven, and after much messing around, my EQ settings are +4dB80Hz+7dB150+2dB300+2.5dB500+3.5dB700+0dB1K+1dB5K+3dB8K+2.5dB12k. If you haven't played with the custom EQ, go and do it now! It makes whole bunch of difference.
Thank you, Alan. I've owned this speaker for about a month now and am absolutely in love with it. With your settings, it spanks pretty much every other speaker that I've listened to up to 2-3x the price. We even enjoy using it outdoors even though the Motion Boom is billed as the outdoor speaker... the Motion+ gets plenty loud and boomy enough for outdoors. I can't imagine being happier with anything else in the price range.

I am from India and motion plus is cheaper than flip 5. I know it’s better than flip 5 when compared in terms of soundstage, mids and highs. But after these eq settings, could the lows and loudness also beat the same of jbl flip 5?
It's loud, crisp , has good amount of bass and it sounded totally different . That's something I like to call as high resolution sound .Good job mate 👍u just mastered it.I tried oluv's EQ but I didn't like it but your's is way too nice 👍
i casually tried using your post eq settings in 37.38 firmware version and holy sh!t, they sound outstandingly better, i can't thank you enough on how awesome you make these speakers sound with the right configurations.... big fan from now on
Great sounding EQ, really. Compared with many Spotify favorite tracks with my M-Audio BX5a studio monitors, found no big difference. Thanks! PS: I wish they implement two different custom EQ placeholders on Soundcore app, to compare =) And i asked their support to add showing actual dB value on each bar, then importing the settings would be easier by numeric values, not analogue style "by own eye". Will see if they would listen to my requests:)
totally, not just anker but all these brands with eq in their app need to allow saved settings, switch between different different settings depending on mood and placement. how hard can it be to save settings to device.
Hey Alan, my Motion+ has just landed. Snapped it up as a result of your reviews and after it dropped to £69.99 on Amazon UK. The app seems to work well too. I was concerned about compatibility because my Moto G phone is over five years old but no issues so far. As soon as the app connected to my speaker, it wanted to download the latest firmware and I can confirm that version 36.38 is now running. No bugginess detected. And your EQ settings make it sound so much better than the out-of-the-box default. Currently enjoying the soundtrack to Spectre. Thanks for your work.

I felt like I should finally replace my old flip 3 and your in depth reviews included every speaker I was considering so it didn't take long to make a decision. I really wanted the JBL Xtreme 2 for the louder and deeper bass but the form factor and price were both ridiculous compared to the Anker Soundcore Motion+.

EQ I turn 300 up a bit and 8k level with 5k. I subscribed yesterday! I will 100% refer to you if you have videos on Audio that I need. Your custom EQ is class mate. Takes the speaker to another level for sure. I still use your pre 35.38 custom settings on 36.38 firmware and sounds excellent, but looking forward to trying this new one. PS if you email Soundcore your serial number they can manually add the update for you to download, I got a pair and only one of them was showing me the new firmware so I emailed and they sorted it out for me.
I also had to email my serial number to customer support to receive the firmware update(s) for only one of my speakers. You shouldn’t have to do that; that’s a problem Anker should fix.
Theres so many settings you made, i dont know which one to choose. I own the soundcore boost which has in my opinion decent more Bass, but the Sound motion plus sound is so much 'wider' and clearer
Bought this on the strength of your in-depth and intelligent review Alan. It's quite a beast! Love that you can change the EQ settings, makes a big difference. Great sound for a bluetooth speaker! Not quite up to the big hifi inside but for what it is, remarkable. Compared to a friend's JBL I think it has better definition, if not quite packing the Charge 4's bass. But that last point is only really relevant if i want a rave! For what I want it for, a few people, never esp loud, rock, classical and some kids music, it's perfect! You don't get audiophile quality in the back garden whatever you do, but good sound which is practical and easy to produce, is a real gift. Glad I came across your channel, I shall be subscribing.

Thanks for this video and others covering the Motion Plus, they were very helpful for making an educated decision for which bluetooth speaker I wanted to buy. These EQ settings were also very helpful as a guideline to get the best sound out of my speaker. I personally opted for the 5k to be about the same as the 150, 500, and 700 setting with my 8k just a little higher than that. Well done!
Just bought this speaker after sold soundcore boost. Personally, I like soundcore boost better, but have to sold it because it has defect. I couldn't find reasonable price for boost, so I bought this at around $85. For volume below 60%, it sounds just a meh. I use soundcore app only to adjust the volume, and the Equalizer set to flat/original. To set the Equalizer, I use poweramp. This app is much more powerful than soundcore app. This speaker definitely can produce frequency more than 12kHz, and soundcore app could not set it. There's a sound in TH-cam called : Sound Test Fullrange 12db lowpass 12db highpass Bass Treble Although this song is limited to 12kHz, set 14kHz Equalizer in poweramp, definitely makes a difference. EDIT : Just played with poweramp, I don't know, but to my ears, this speaker can handle frequency between 60hz-14khz, but to high settings in 60hz-70hz range, breaks bass sound even at volume only 50%. @Alan, maybe you could use poweramp's Equalizer to compare between speakers, so that those speakers have the same settings.
After watching loads of your videos I have ordered the motion plus, and it arrives tomorrow (hopefully), obviously I have listened to music all my life, just through your everyday radio, hi fi etc, never messed about with any settings before, how will the motion plus sound if I just leave everything where it is when I open the box, thanks for all the work you put in for us mere mortals Alan.

@@aggilos6127 It's reducing it since it push the volume higher. Alan's Motion+ seems to last 7 hours at max volume with that EQ, however most people get 3 hours at max volume with this custom EQ.
@@aggilos6127 One option to keep from reducing battery life quite as much is to shift the entire curve down slightly. So instead of +6 db for 80hz and +1 or +2 for the 1k slider (which is the lowest of all of them), go to +3db at 80 and take 1k to -2 or -1, then try to make the rest of the "curve" look exactly the same as Alan's. Should get the same sound profile without everything being "boosted" as much.
@@Joe2Jock If everything is "boosted", does it mean that it would sound muddier or something? I'm trying to keep a similar sound profile as Alan created by lowering everything with the 500 and 700 hz set at 0dB and it sounds alright. Do you think this is a good idea? When I play some Spotify songs with Alan's eq settings, I can't tell if it's just the audio file being shit since it can sound a little unclear and muddy at times. What do you think?
@@Joe2Jock I know I'm late but you shouldn't do that at all. Each slider change the specific area mentioned under it. Which means, all areas that doesn't have a slider will stay unchanged. Reduce all sliders and you'll break the flatness
I was going to send mine back having ordered it when my bose soundlink mini finally died after a soak in vodka. Sounds much better now. I don't still not sure if it sounds as good as my soundlink or if I just grew accustomed to the sound the bose gave out. But I think I'm going to keep it. Its cheaper than the soundlink so need to bare in mind that. Just wish bose done a modern version of the sound link

Very good research Alan! Well, everyone has different tastes and ears are different, although there is something in common, so let everyone do the experiment and find their own settings! The main thing is to remember, to know when to stop and not to exaggerate! One thing is clear equalization is needed, it squeezes the maximum out of this acoustics! This kid is capable of a lot if you approach the process gently and carefully! Anker bravissimo for this model! )))

Theoretically with bass maxd out at max volume over and over but it has dynamic limiters to provide some level of protection. The question is, does it sound like the amp is clipping?
I'm afraid this will affect the longevity of my motion+, I tried it and it sounds AMAZING but are there any trade offs? I am using the one at 4:23 with software 36.38. Great work and thank you.

does anyone know if setting the EQ via the app changes the speakers eq permanently until changed again? so if i used a non android device to play something on the speaker, would it continue to use the EQ settings set via the app?

if you are a bit handy and dont mine opening it up you can give it a clean after summer 😝 i would enjoy it and not worry but thats me. its waterproof so should be ok.
Alan, I'm trying to find settings for my Motion Boom. I used your custom settings for the Motion+ on the Motion Boom and my god does it blast now! WAY louder and more clear than the soundcore signature preset. Do you currently have any custom settings for the Motion Boom?

I know it has some delay with videos, but everybody is saying that the sounds is really good. Hi is there a numerical set of values that accompanies the graph in the video? Its hard to tell the exact values in the picture shown for the motion plus.
I just purchased the soundcore rave neo party speaker. You should reach out to Anker to see if you could get one to sample. It kills the charge4 and the Sony xb33 is a major disappointment compared to the rave neo.

Alan Ross Reviews the body is about the size of a xtreme2. I believe it a fair comparison as it is $99 USD while the so called big boys want way more for sometime inferior products.The Rave neo has great sub bass and stays clean sounding on the top register. It would be worth a try to contact Anker and describe your TH-cam channel as they do give samples to small TH-camrs. Anker used to send speakers to Oluv back in the day as he had a video about it.
Hey Alan! Just would like to say thanks a lot for all of the work that you do! Because of you, got myself the Motion+ and it sounds great! I own a Sony XB31 and the Anker just beats it by such a big margin - not even close. Just got a question tho, how do I replicate the exact Custom EQ settings that you have? The sliders in the app dont have exact measurements and I'm only basing the EQ by how I see it. Hope you could let me know! Your Custom EQ sounds so good that I wanna copy it exactly!
unfortunately thats how you have to do it, by sight. even then sliders randomly move on their own and also if its between the actual hidden settings of the app. so yes, its a hit and miss, trial and error by sight. open and shutting the app a few times.

Hello sir... can u plz made a battery life test.. ihave my anker motion plus.. idont have argue interms of sounds quality i choose to use ur eq setting it is dbest compare to other BT speaker, but the problem i personaly encountered if i use this in a full volume sounds setting the battery rapidly decrease i set my timer to know how long the batt can hold on but i found out only 55 minutes of playing time in a full volume..

Theres so many settings you made, i dont know which one to choose. I own the soundcore boost which has in my opinion decent more Bass, but the Sound motion plus sound is so much 'wider' and clearer
Bought this on the strength of your in-depth and intelligent review Alan. It's quite a beast! Love that you can change the EQ settings, makes a big difference. Great sound for a bluetooth speaker! Not quite up to the big hifi inside but for what it is, remarkable. Compared to a friend's JBL I think it has better definition, if not quite packing the Charge 4's bass. But that last point is only really relevant if i want a rave! For what I want it for, a few people, never esp loud, rock, classical and some kids music, it's perfect! You don't get audiophile quality in the back garden whatever you do, but good sound which is practical and easy to produce, is a real gift.

Thanks for this video and others covering the Motion Plus, they were very helpful for making an educated decision for which bluetooth speaker I wanted to buy. These EQ settings were also very helpful as a guideline to get the best sound out of my speaker. I personally opted for the 5k to be about the same as the 150, 500, and 700 setting with my 8k just a little higher than that. Well done!

Just bought this speaker after sold soundcore boost.
Personally, I like soundcore boost better, but have to sold it because it has defect.
I couldn't find reasonable price for boost, so I bought this at around $85.
For volume below 60%, it sounds just a meh.
I use soundcore app only to adjust the volume, and the Equalizer set to flat/original.
To set the Equalizer, I use poweramp. This app is much more powerful than soundcore app.
This speaker definitely can produce frequency more than 12kHz, and soundcore app could not set it.
There's a sound in TH-cam called : Sound Test Fullrange 12db lowpass 12db highpass Bass Treble
Although this song is limited to 12kHz, set 14kHz Equalizer in poweramp, definitely makes a difference.
EDIT :
Just played with poweramp, I don't know, but to my ears, this speaker can handle frequency between 60hz-14khz, but to high settings in 60hz-70hz range, breaks bass sound even at volume only 50%.
@Alan, maybe you could use poweramp's Equalizer to compare between speakers, so that those speakers have the same settings.
After watching loads of your videos I have ordered the motion plus, and it arrives tomorrow (hopefully), obviously I have listened to music all my life, just through your everyday radio, hi fi etc, never messed about with any settings before, how will the motion plus sound if I just leave everything where it is when I open the box, thanks for all the work you put in for us mere mortals Alan.
It will sound ok but much better if you set it to custom.

Hey man. How much these EQ settings affect the battery , the time playing music?
@@aggilos6127 It's reducing it since it push the volume higher. Alan's Motion+ seems to last 7 hours at max volume with that EQ, however most people get 3 hours at max volume with this custom EQ.
@@aggilos6127 One option to keep from reducing battery life quite as much is to shift the entire curve down slightly. So instead of +6 db for 80hz and +1 or +2 for the 1k slider (which is the lowest of all of them), go to +3db at 80 and take 1k to -2 or -1, then try to make the rest of the "curve" look exactly the same as Alan's. Should get the same sound profile without everything being "boosted" as much.
@@Joe2Jock If everything is "boosted", does it mean that it would sound muddier or something? I'm trying to keep a similar sound profile as Alan created by lowering everything with the 500 and 700 hz set at 0dB and it sounds alright. Do you think this is a good idea? When I play some Spotify songs with Alan's eq settings, I can't tell if it's just the audio file being shit since it can sound a little unclear and muddy at times. What do you think?
@@Joe2Jock I know I'm late but you shouldn't do that at all. Each slider change the specific area mentioned under it. Which means, all areas that doesn't have a slider will stay unchanged. Reduce all sliders and you'll break the flatness

I was going to send mine back having ordered it when my bose soundlink mini finally died after a soak in vodka. Sounds much better now. I don't still not sure if it sounds as good as my soundlink or if I just grew accustomed to the sound the bose gave out. But I think I'm going to keep it. Its cheaper than the soundlink so need to bare in mind that. Just wish bose done a modern version of the sound link

Well, everyone has different tastes and ears are different, although there is something in common, so let everyone do the experiment and find their own settings!
The main thing is to remember, to know when to stop and not to exaggerate!
One thing is clear equalization is needed, it squeezes the maximum out of this acoustics!

Theoretically with bass maxd out at max volume over and over but it has dynamic limiters to provide some level of protection. The question is, does it sound like the amp is clipping?

the speaker has its own limiters, i wouldnt worry too much unless playing all the time at max volume with deep bass heavy tracks.

does anyone know if setting the EQ via the app changes the speakers eq permanently until changed again? so if i used a non android device to play something on the speaker, would it continue to use the EQ settings set via the app?
yes the eq is set in the speaker itself.

Alan, I'm trying to find settings for my Motion Boom. I used your custom settings for the Motion+ on the Motion Boom and my god does it blast now! WAY louder and more clear than the soundcore signature preset. Do you currently have any custom settings for the Motion Boom?

Hi Alan. I really love your reviews. I'm almost into buying the Motion Plus, but could you please check the Divoom Tivoo Max? I know it has some delay with videos, but everybody is saying that the sounds is really good. You're the one I trust now, so I wouldn't be in doubt if you were saying that the Soundcore is better once the Tivoo Max is checked

I just purchased the soundcore rave neo party speaker. You should reach out to Anker to see if you could get one to sample. It kills the charge4 and the Sony xb33 is a major disappointment compared to the rave neo.

Alan Ross Reviews the body is about the size of a xtreme2. I believe it a fair comparison as it is $99 USD while the so called big boys want way more for sometime inferior products.The Rave neo has great sub bass and stays clean sounding on the top register. It would be worth a try to contact Anker and describe your TH-cam channel as they do give samples to small TH-camrs. Anker used to send speakers to Oluv back in the day as he had a video about it.

Hey Alan! Just would like to say thanks a lot for all of the work that you do! Because of you, got myself the Motion+ and it sounds great! I own a Sony XB31 and the Anker just beats it by such a big margin - not even close. Just got a question tho, how do I replicate the exact Custom EQ settings that you have? The sliders in the app dont have exact measurements and I'm only basing the EQ by how I see it. Hope you could let me know! Your Custom EQ sounds so good that I wanna copy it exactly!
unfortunately thats how you have to do it, by sight. even then sliders randomly move on their own and also if its between the actual hidden settings of the app. so yes, its a hit and miss, trial and error by sight. open and shutting the app a few times.

distortion would be something you hear, not feel. decent bass should be felt so job done 😁

Hello sir... can u plz made a battery life test.. ihave my anker motion plus.. idont have argue interms of sounds quality i choose to use ur eq setting it is dbest compare to other BT speaker, but the problem i personaly encountered if i use this in a full volume sounds setting the battery rapidly decrease i set my timer to know how long the batt can hold on but i found out only 55 minutes of playing time in a full volume..
Yes i keep pointing out my motion plus seems to have different battery management to the newer ones.
