Hi Nicole, I am a Prime membership subscriber. I just wanted to let you know why I still pay for this membership. I get tired of going to stores and have to do gymnastics to get around or over their mound of stuff that needs to be put away. The tons of excuse me, oops, sorry, oh my gosh, will you please just move... I just don't miss that. Oh, and lets not forget the how nasty people are .... Have these people forgotten how to present themselves??? Their attitudes.. I just am a happier person and probably safer, as well for shopping on Amazon. I get your video.. and completely understand ... I am in favor of my sanity over paying for shipping. I will say, in my early days of shopping online with AmazonI did overspend quite a bit. I put myself on a budget and doing well with that. Thanks for the good content. Take care, Kris from the U.S.A
Alternative- nearly every store has a pickup. Do your Walmart, Target, HEB, whatever shopping and have it placed in your car. Not through Amazon, no fighting people. I do this often.
I'm keeping Prime. I've cancelled it twice, and came back twice. People talk about buying locally, and I do that when I can. Then people talk about driving around to buy what I'm looking for. I don't drive. I don't own a car. I've been bicycling as my main transportation for over 40 years. I'm not riding all over town to find an item. I work 6 days/60 hours a week. I'm not waisting my time looking all over the place. I can't ride and buy three months worth of paper towels and get them home on my bike. It's a convenience tax, and I'm willing to pay it.
There's going to be exceptions, but there are a number of people who don't need the membership and may just be uninformed. If you ride your bike everywhere you probably live in or near a city, right? You may be close enough to just pick up smaller items, but not having a car is the real reason for this exception. Plenty of people own cars and live in the suburbs just 5 mins away from most major stores. Also, there are carts and ways to add storage to your bike. You could use free shipping for the larger items. Just my 2 cents.
Some things I buy I can longer get in the store. There's this hair spray I can online get online. I also have an amazon credit card, so I get 5 cents back for every dollar I spend. I always pay the card full every month so I never get charged interest.
I agree, I think I order way too much from Amazon to have it be realistic for me to cancel my prime. I don't see this happening in my foreseeable future if I'm being completely and blatantly honest with myself🥹
Honestly I used Amazon during the COVID-19 crisis but now it’s like Nicole said “ when you put things in your cart and wait awhile you forget the urgency of wanting to have it.” I don’t have a membership. However because I’m disabled and cannot drive, I found the convenience handy, and used their ‘30 day free trail offer’ (only when the moon was blue)but I do use it sparingly and shop around in my area and shops that offer delivery. After COVID-19 they do! I would much rather give a local store $10.00 than Amazon.
In the US membership is $14.99 month plus $2.99 month for no commercials on Amazon Prime Video. I recently cancelled my membership with no regrets. I live in a rural area and haven’t ever gotten an item in even 2 days for a few years now!
I pay yearly. I think it's $139. And I don't have commercials in my movies. I think you got that part wrong. Amazon doesn't put commercials in movies. That's Freevie or Tubie or something where you can pay extra not to see the commercials. I would just say if you want to rent movies sometimes, Amazon is a good option. They have nearly anything you can think of and you can be watching it in seconds at any time you feel like it. Otherwise you are driving to the RedBox and making a very limited choice that you then have to return.
I've tagged mine to cancel too when renewal date arrives. I feel taken advantage of, especially when they added ads to the streaming service. I didn't sign up for that.
I'm in the USA. I don't know what you are talking about with ads on Amazon Prime. I've never seen an ad in a movie on Amazon, only on Freevie or Tubie or something like that. I don't have to pay extra on Amazon, and it's cheaper if you pay yearly instead of monthly.
In the Netherlands, a membership used to be just €2.99 until November last year. Now it's €4.99 instead. I've never seen any commercial, btw. It sounds like Amazon really screws over their American customers big time.
Hmmm...I've posted two replies here and both have been deleted. Neither said anything bad, just that you are wrong about ads on Amazon. Well if my replies are going to be deleted for something stupid like that, I won't be wasting my time watching this channel. Sayonara. Unsubscribed.
I LOVE THIS VIDEO! My Prime membership was up for renewal in early Feb at $139.00 USD per year. I did not and will not renew - EVER. I can get everything I need from local stores or other online, LEGIT merchants. The last few items I purchased via Amazon were not the real thing but cheap knock-offs. Just one example: in January, I bought PowerStep insoles from Amazon. The ones they shipped were NOT authentic - not even close. I returned them and at that point made the decision to never pay for a Prime membership again. THANK YOU for this video - you are right on the money!
What gave you the impression that they are fake Powerstep insoles? I don't see that being a highly likely product to fake. Nikes or Hoka shoes sure, but not Powerstep. Even Superfeet insole perhaps as that is a much bigger name. So what makes you think they are fake?
I've had Amazon Prime for close to 20 years but I cancelled it when you spoke about it in previous videos. You pointed out how much it's turned into the "Amazing new stuff, very great stuff, veritable super stuff, prime cool stuff, make you feel more gooder stuff, stuff for make you happy, stuff" store. Your videos have pointed out how everyone (governments, businesses, nearly all social media channels (including yours), and many people in real life are trying to get your money or sell you shit to get your money. Everything is advertising or a scam and very few things have value. In fact, now I'm just journaling here..., you might consider making a video or series of videos about the few things in life that aren't actually scams and have true value. Love the content, keep it up!
Ya, 5 years ago when I started minimalism... I woke up to reality that 99% of things we buy is a scam to prop up an artificial economy with imaginary monopoly money used to create economic slavery. I watched the movie Fight Club for the first time last year... and it basically opened my eyes in a new way.
When I saw your title, I thought, "I'm not going to cancel, but I might enjoy listening." I listened and you made such a compelling case, I decided to cancel after all. Thanks, Nicole!
There's usually a month per year where we order a bunch of stuff in a short period. So we pay for Prime, and _instantly_ cancel it. It lasts for the 30 days, and we just get all the free shipping, without accidentally forgetting to cancel it. Works well for us.
I live in a rural area. The nearest town is a 30 min drive away If I'm going into town to buy something I have to make sure the store has them in stock, which doesn't always work, I've had it happened several times this year which is a few gallons of gas and over an hour spent in the car. Amazon works better for me. I do check if I can get a better price elsewhere, and when I do, I buy it. But most of the time Amazon is either the same cost or cheaper.
I live rurally also & Amazon always gets my items to me. I've tried other stores like Vitacost, that items get lost so I'm willing to pay a bit more not having to deal with shopping. Plus I do watch some films too.
@@mtngrl5859 I do support my local community as much as I can. Even after I confirm that a store has something in stock, many times I arrive at the store to find out that they actually don't have what I need in stock. This cost me me about $10 in gas, puts wear and tear on my truck, and cost me an hour or two of my time. So yeah, I often just order it off Amazon, and 99% of the time I get exactly what I need in a couple of days.
@@TammySmith-nb6se I've found that they usually are cheaper, or at worse the same as I could get locally but having to spend $10-$12 in gas and hour or two of my time to get it. I also get 5% cash back on the items I buy through Amazon, and that amounts to a few hundreds dollars a year. I wish it wasn't so good, and I wish there were reliable locally owned businesses that could at least match the convience and price. But the reality is for a lot of people who don't live in or around big cities, Amazon provides the best selection and price. I'm guessing she is talking about people who live in large urban areas with a variety of options. But Amazon is pretty good for people in rural areas.
I'm like you Edmund. I buy things from Amazon because I save money and they ship it all over for me. There seem to be a really lot of stupid people who can't figure this out. With 5% back I also save a lot, and they never take advantage of me. Let the Amazon haters keep on going. I snap up a lot of good deals they miss because they can't figure it out!
I seem to use Amazon a lot like Nicole describes. Probably 4-6 times a year. It's crazy to me how many friends literally buy something on Amazon every day or several times a week. I see piles of boxes on porches near me. I also think a lot of people get lazy and buy stuff on Amazon instead of noticing the price is cheaper in stores locally. Like dish soap, $4 at Target and $7 on Amazon.
@@seltzermint5 It still cost money to drive to Target with the added risk of being in an accident either on the roads or in a densely crowded parking lot. Many times the added convenience is worth it.
@@AfrocanukI guess that makes sense for a lot of people. For me it's weird because I live in a small convenient US city where everything's like within 1-4 miles from work or my house and rarely crowded.
@@seltzermint5 Yea, I would prefer to buy it things in store, but places stopped carrying 4k dvds, video games, pc parts, clothing, & shoes. Normally I would walk into a best buy for any electronic up until 2019, but every year after I stopped shopping there as their prices went up & carried less of a selection than amazon. idk why, but every time I'm trying to find things I'd like for clothing & shoes in my size are impossible to find in a store as well. Even if I go online to something like dicks sporting goods, adidas, or nike 9/10 it's sold out and the only place that has it is amazon. One thing I noticed with online shopping... is products never being in stock, instantly sold out, or straight up disappearing of the face of the earth. I pretty much only leave the house for groceries & work.
You hit another one out of the park Nicole. I am content to say I AM one of the exceptions. I have never bought anything on line, never used Amazon, I do not do internet banking and have never had anything delivered to my house (with the exception of wood and tin for my roof) I still for the most part, 90% of the time, use cash when I go to buy groceries, gas or the occassional outing for a beer. I do however pay to much for internet and cell phone so I will look into Mint Mobile. Thanks again.
You will like Mint Mobile service. I switched to Mint 2 years ago this April. I saved $40/month and yes, I did sock away that 40 bucks. I cut the cable cord at the same time and bought a Roku device for $25 and kept internet/wifi for a savings of over $120/month. I feel so stupid for paying so much for cable and renting that equipment. I bought my own modem/router. Best of luck to you!
I had Amazon prime for the last three years. I have way too much junk now. I did get rid of it and I do still order from Amazon but I just save it up till I get free shipping so I can get more junk. My latest junk will be here Thursday.
Agree 100%. I've never had prime, & most of the items I'd considered buying on Amazon are not cheaper. My friend who had prime didn't know about the $35 thing. One thing though I noticed is that during checkout, there's several areas where it's super easy to inadvertently sign up for Prime (I did it once, luckily realized it, & cancelled). So I wonder how many people have done the same but didn't realize it
prime used to be cheap, but now that they have destroyed all other commerce they have been hiking prices. you know who else uses that same business model who ravaged the US of all of its mom and pop brick and mortar stores? china.
I cancelled my Prime last year when I noticed that the shipping was actually taking MORE than 2 days... and the movies I used to watch on Prime has mostly all been removed... and my beloved Unsolved Mysteries all of a sudden had ADS on it even though I was paying for Prime??? BYE!
I do like shopping local, but when I needed to both both of my 4K cameras and my two Gimbals along with my RODE mics. No one in my area had anything I needed. My entire set up was available on Amazon and it worked out well for me. I used the Amazon lockers, not my front porch. 😊🤓Side note, Costco makes all of their money by membership. Great video thanks! I pay the Prime fee, it helps when I need a spare battery in the morning. 🤪👍😎
I quit buying anything from Amazon a few years ago when I realized that with a little bit of effort (using the internet or simply getting in my car and going shopping) I could find what I wanted for a better price, knew exactly what I was getting and wasn't getting all that wasted packaging. People ask me how I can do without it and it's no problem at all, it's easy. Plus I don't want to spend my money at a company that treats their employees like dirt.
What brand of phone do you own? There’s the thing no one wants to leave their home, time is too precious. If I can do my shopping while on break at work and have it at my door step that day or the next saves me time I can spend doing something I like.
@@grd1184I'm with KASH. My wife just dumps the boxes in the garage and expects me to make them disappear in the recycling bin. Unfortunately that means actually cutting them down to fit in it. I'm just used as a hump in that process. FU amazon. Get a job where you don't have to shop from work... eek. Princess...
I live in a small town in the south and the shops and stores are about 20 miles in any direction. Sometimes there isn't enough time in the day to go shopping and it's easier to get some stuff online. Plus i dont want to lug my stuff from the store with my bad back. I'm on the fence in canceling my prime account. Since mine just renewed, i got time to contemplate canceling next year. But i will monitor my use during that time and see if it's worth keeping it. Thanka for the info as always.
I live in a small town too where it’s not so easy to find things I’m looking for. I think the point nicole is trying to make is that you can use Amazon for free. You don’t have to pay for prime. So I think using it to get things you can’t find anywhere else makes sense, but just waiting to buy what you need until you’ve hit your $35 minimum for free shipping. That’s what I do, and it works great. Good luck to you!
Totally agree. I had a similar thing when deciding to buy super compact cars, first a Toyota Aygo, now proud owner of the second make of a Smart 4 seater... the difference in price of ownership would allow me to rent a decent sized van once a month, and this just happened for the first time in twenty years last month... and won't happen again for another ten years I'm confident. Funny how you got seriously nostalgic about the mindfulness involved with going to a shop and buying stuff there :)
Let’s not forget: The sales on Prime Days are often a big scam - I’ve seen items marked up to way more than it usually is, just so they can “mark it down” for the same amount. That way you THINK it’s on sale if you have no idea what it usually costs. I watched a video where someone took screenshots of their wishlist, only to see this happen to most of the items they were hoping to purchase for less.
totally true! I also think many "Prime Day" items are absolutely unnecessary items that no one needs and only buy on Prime Day, they have never shopped for it before and have no idea if the price is a good deal.
It’s been eye-opening when I see something I’d recently ordered, and then it was on a Prime Day sale or a lightning deal a few days later. Multiple times, it’s cost the same or more when it’s a “deal.” Often, it’s because the regular price has a coupon, but the deal price removes the coupon and then gives a percentage off the regular price. So when they compare to the regular price, it looks like a big discount, but they’re not telling you that on a normal day, there’s like a $40 off coupon. What a scam.
Wow Nicole you can talk, and talk fast without taking to much of a breath,i just love your attitude and videos keep them coming Greetings from Stockholm Sweden
yep. I also shouldn't have to pay 4 dollars extra to watch some comedy from 2007 with a Prime membership. Soured me on Prime Video totally when that sort of thing happened repeatedly.
@@seltzermint5 Ya, I'm salty about amazon music. They promote it as if you have a prime membership you get amazon music for free... yet I was still being charged for both each month.
I came to the same conclusions about Prime. Not sure what I'm getting for the $14.99/month or $129/year, since all orders over $35 have free shipping anyway. What really bugs me is the way you're placed on autorenew by default, and you literally have to go through multiple screens to cancel or "pause" your subscription to avoid it. Their autorenew does not notify you when your subscription is up; it just goes down the list of every form of payment you have until it finds one that will go through. I felt like I was getting financially raped.
I didn't know notifications were an option. But the fact that it's off by default is part of that rapist mentality that seems to be the modern business model. Just yesterday I went to buy a Starbucks on the app, and it automatically reloaded my SB card with $25.00 and paid for my coffee out of that. Last time I was on the app, the SB card was not the default payment method. Now every time I buy a coffee on the app, I have to be sure to change the payment method to my bank card. @@joeb4294
Your take on Amazon is very accurate for sure. I use Amazon once or twice a month for convenience, locating something I can't reasonably find elsewhere. In that capacity, it works well.
Love the video as always, and Levi’s cameo too! When I’m looking for an item on Amazon I take a screenshot, then compare it to other stores. Sometimes I go through my photos and decide that I really don’t need the item anyway. I never had Amazon prime because there’s nothing that I need that quickly and I don’t like to pay extra if I don’t have to. I still listen to music in my car on the radio (gasp) or use the free version of Spotify.
I take it one step further Nicole and say people shouldn’t shop on Amazon at all. In my community the malls and downtown are dying. In this economy I think we are going to regret not spending our money as close to home as possible.
I agree. I almost never use Amazon and would never pay for Prime. My issue is I love Audible. The problem is it is becoming harder and harder to avoid these companies when they are in EVERYTHING.
@juliusstriker4465 No, not all of them. I live in a very rural area where there is virtually zero crime, and the malls and shopping centers are still struggling. Every time I look at my window I see an Amazon Prime delivery truck going down the road.
Amazon is probably one of my best subscription for money. I am in Australia, and I am a bargain hunter, Amazon is indeed cheaper than locals stores and supermarkets, plus I have Camelcamelcamel and Booko price alert services on, so I know when a product has fallen below a desired price to ensure I am getting the best deal on whether it's toothpaste, books, or headphones. I rarely need to buy "things that I don't need", because I need to make up the minimum spend on each checkout. Maybe it's different in the States, but here down under, Amazon is the way to go for the most part.
I just looked at my orders for the last 3 months. It was all stuff I was pleased to have next day shipping for. Usually a project or a repair in the house, and most of it was between $3 and $15. So the free shipping kind of works for me. Fluorescent bulbs, printer labels, a broken bulb covering the light in the den, a can of gold spray paint, 10' USB extension cable, Paint Thinner, file boxes for that weekend closet cleaning, etc. All things I'm still using right noe, so no impulse buys. Each one saved me 15-20 minutes of driving time and $2 in gas driving to the right store. That's about a days worth of time and $30 in gas every month. Hmmm... I think I'll keep it. Nice to know about the $35 thing.
Since I live out in the mountains, subscriptions like Amazon Prime can save me money. However, the perks are being squeezed out these last couple of years and I'm wondering when it will be considered not worth it anymore. I really don't like the escalation of ads and commercials or the loss of UPS to my door shipping. There are other sites that will give free shipping for an order minimum, usually via Fed Ex. I find those worth my time and money too.
We got to vote with our time and money or this will be our only option and I refuse to sell out to greedy corporations who will just become more greedy. Thank you Nicole
I enjoyed this video. I encourage folks to (whenever possible), not just cancel their Prime but to avoid ordering from Amazon altogether. The perceived "convenience" just isn't worth it. That company is horrible in so many ways. Let's all be a little more mindful about who we give our dollars to. Cheers.
I cancelled Amazon Prime years ago and don't miss it. I don't have any paid streaming services. I own a vehicle that transports me any place I need to go to get anything I might need or want without having to step foot inside a Wal-Mart which I haven't done in over 30 years. Great video with deep insight for a young lady. Keep doing what you're doing. BRAVO. 🎉
my mom is a disabled senior and loves Walmart groceries which annoys me to no end. But it's kind of funny, I go to Walmart 2-3 times per month for her and as for my household personally we only buy like 5 items there in a year and a total of MAYBE $30 of our shopping is spent at Walmart. I haven't shopped there regularly since 1999.
I love the Amazon service! I get 5% back. I buy things all over town. I send stuff all over America and England with Amazon. It is a great service for me. I finally got rid of my extra cars and SUV's. But I kept one late model Toyota. I also love Walmart. I get a lot of things I need there and have an IQ high enough to know what I should be buying. This of course helps me invest better! Good luck
Thank you for finally setting my mind at ease. A few years ago I tried Amazon Prime but canceled it after a few months. Lately, I have been tempted to resubscribe but the price seemed too high IMO. I don't watch much TV, and I can listen to music for free. Now I know. No it is not and will never be worth it. Like you, I've never paid for shipping. I either pick something from one of my wishlists to get the order to the minimum, or I purchase the item elsewhere. Or the item goes on a wishlist to wait for it's chance next time.
While I canceled my Prime membership years ago, I still used Amazon for countless items. I made sure to buy *needed* items so I could get free shipping. It didn’t matter that the delivery date was 4 days away. I’m normally not that desperate for anything unless it’s produce (grocery store for that). Last week was the final straw though. Amazon dropped off my package at a door I didn’t recognize in the photo and I walked around looking for it but gave up. A lady walking her dog stopped by the next morning with my package. I canceled Amazon completely that Monday. I also noticed that jumping on Amazon was becoming a habit that I wanted to break, so all is good and I have zero regrets canceling Amazon. I know for a fact that some people need it for convenience like those who may be homebound, so it’s not a one-size-fits-all issue. I can go without it.
Well that would have been just too funny. Actually, It was Manila folders and a new Roku box thing. I buy my “back massagers” in person locally to test them out first. 🤪
Needed this! My subscription is on pause while I evaluate. Just turned 60 and living in Queens NY with no car, and the addition of their grubhub membership it may be worth it. Calculating and appreciating the perspective. Have already noticed that I am more conscious of what i buy and further prioritizing the value of supporting local, independently owned brick and mortars in my neighborhood. There is a ton of junk out with Amazon and over the past years, have been prioritizing mindful curation of quality goods while experiencing deeper discounts patronizing independent websites for items i.e. whole grains, bamboo paper goods, healthcare items, etc. that I can't access elsewhere. In addition, given the structure of chasing discounts on subscribe to save items have wasted a great deal of time and energy and causing me to lose valuable opportunity cost. Straight up, having to go shopping in the organic/3D world yields built in socialization, exercise and boosting happiness points as well. Further highlighting living values aligning to life purpose is huge. Thank you:)
When I worked at Amazon Fresh they wouldn't give you an employee discount unless you were a Prime member. And that's about all you need to know about Amazon
I have Amazon Prime and never paid anything for it. My brother had Prime many years ago and gifted me a membership (I guess you could give to friends and family back then). Maybe he pays $100 a month. I hate to shop so well worth it. You spend so much time in stores and don’t find what you need. I just went to Home Depot and didn’t find what I needed. Also, I don’t buy impulsively.
My b/f uses specialized electronic equipment and trying to locate the dozens of connectors and other items is impossible locally. Most of these stores either don't carry it or have gone out of business. So Amazon fills that void. Also, many of the online stores either don't stock it or just do not carry it due to low sales. His orders are hundreds of dollars each, so free shipping, and when he is onsite, ships the products there. Just my take on Chrome Domes empire.
Always, and I mean always, cart your stuff. Never use buy it now. A good way to make sure you stick to this is make Amazon your window shopping site. Find what you're looking for, and then let it sit while you comparison shop. If you're not comparison shopping, then you need to.
I disagree. I buy all sorts of daily items on Amazon from dog food to my oatmeal. It’s gotten to the point where if I can wait two days for something, drop it off at my house tyvm. It saves me s lot of time, the cost of driving, and the aggravation of the store. The cost is often comparable and the convenience unbeatable. It frees up my most important resource, time. I can either earn $100+ an hour working or do something I’d rather be doing than errands. Their algorithm is not good enough that I mindlessly scroll the way I would social media. I’m in, I’m out, I move on.
hard to believe for many people ... one of the biggest items ordered are cat litter and cases of bottled water (because they are too heavy for so many people) @@lunayen
enjoy making $100+ an hour while you can. amazon is another giant who has been shutting down companies in the US left and right by making cheap chinese junk available to the masses. even tech giants will soon just switch over to AI and have computers work for free. make sure you are putting money into savings, you will need it!
So, Nichole, regarding the stores here in the Chicago area, there are so many items under lock and key, due to rampant stealing, that it makes it impossible to shop in a brick and mortar store. For example, Walmart. If need something, I get it delivered by Amazon instead of going into the store. It’s worth it to me. At Walmart, I have to find someone to unlock the case, then if I find an employee, they walk away, then I’m standing there waiting and no one comes to unlock the case. After asking multiple employees, finally, someone comes to unlock the case but I can’t put the item in my cart. It’s left by the employee at a different register. Then when I check out, I forget to tell the cashier that. So when I get home I realize I didn’t bring that item home with me. I’m buying only needed items from Amazon that I would have to buy at Walmart. Id rather avoid that store completely.
I actually canceled my Amazon Prime membership because you made the point of how awful it was in your other video. I've made one purchase from them since canceling for over $35, my life hasn't changed at all, & I kept that annual subscription fee in my pocket. It didn't really matter the package took longer to get to me & if I needed something sooner, I went & picked it up. Got me a walk & fresh air. Sounds like a win to me.
I love Amazon, it's very convenient and I order from there frequently. I'm older and have less energy to do all the shopping I need to do. It saves me time as well. I get many necessities from there and I shop for gifts as well. I rarely return anything.
I am also a senior and find Amazon very convenient. Normally I check stores around me for items first but there are a lot of things I can't find and that is when Amazon is my go to store.
I have prime membership $14.99 here in the US. I do order lots of things under $35 that I need within 2 days. I live in a beach/ farm town and the art & gardening supplies are not available within driving distance. I am also old as dirt and hate driving. So although I love all of your advice, Jeff and I will remain friends (well not exactly friends lol).
I agree. I'm in a rural part of Ohio, and we don't have specialty stores. When I'm working on something and need a part or a cable to make it run, Amazon usually has it.
While there is a small percentage of video you have where I don't agree with your conclusions, here without even fully watching the video I know I'll agree with you 100%. Now I'm going to finish watching and possibly amend this. But more than likely this video is probably accurate. Yep, I agree with you. Amazon has probably done more to hurt the small retail business person than Target, Walmart, and more. In addition , As much as I love technology I often wonder if this world would be better if we were all artisans of products, from home building to making rugs, using our hands and not relying on so much technology. I still want electricity and plumbing; but I often wonder how much Man is being removed from "Man" and how much Women is being removed from "Women" as we go down this tech utopia. I know, that's a fleeting thought really, but I've recently started to wonder about this bigger picture of what ideal life looks like. And one thing is clear, we're moving further away from it, not closer.
I live in a rural area in Tennessee. Not many stores around and I return a lot of things. I’m not planning to keep prime forever but it’s very convenient now.
Same thing here...there are lots of things not available in my little town, and I am partially disabled and cannot always get out of the house depending on the day. Amazon is a major lifesaver with tons more options than I have locally in stores. Most things come very quickly. Many items on Amazon are actually cheaper than they cost in the local stores, even the big box ones like Target.
Many things you can buy on amazon can be purchased via the retailers website directly, as an alternative (I also live in a rural area and understand how useful amazon can be).
Let me explain to Princess Nicole, how I use Amazon Prime. I, like Nicole, am Canadian. I live South of her, near the US border. My Amazon Prime membership is US. The US Amazon and the Canadian Amazon are different animals. Generally, Canadian prices for the goods on Amazon in which I am generally interested, are much higher that in the US, even after the exchange rate. There are virtually no superfluous purchases in my Amazon history. What Amazon enables me to do is to stay productive. I can be working, while Amazon is busily sending the things that I require to keep productive. Half the time, I cannot even the get the things I require in Canada. Since I visit the US often, I can also take advantage of returning items to Whole Foods, as well as getting Prime discounts there. The best part about Prime, for me, is that, in the event that I forget to order some little thing that I need, I can simply order it, without having to worry about adding additional items to reach the Free Shipping level. One other thing, Nicole should consider Prime along the same lines that she considers her Espresso machine; that is, something to enjoy using.
I live in a small US exclave (just S of Vancouver), and thought I 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐝 the Prime service to avoid two international border crossings, but no. It is easy to wait for the $35 total to accumulate, and besides, their video service is not interesting. I let Prime drop in early May, and have no regrets.
I don’t subscribe to Amazon Prime for the very reasons you mentioned. I put my stuff in the cart and order after I give it a good think and it totals enough for free shipping!👍🇺🇸🙋♀️
The problem is impulse buying, not the convenience of internet purchases. Pros for Amazon Prime is free shipping and return, I ordered many books shelves, beds and mattresses which are bulky where stores would charge you upwards of $200 for shipping, and not able or inconvenience to return. The many comments on each products also help hugely, as I’ve difficulty in choosing similar products between brands. Choices available is also convenient as most stores have limited choices. I’m not an impulse buyer, I chose a product and if it’s not something essential, I put it in the wait list and most often did not purchase it, I drive, but at 69, do not want to, and Amazon saves me the time, effort and gas cost to purchase necessities. I understand you’re a minimalist, so your needs might not be as substantial as many of us, so that’s not a problem for you. I hugely enjoy your videos, and admire your wisdom as such a young age, but in this case, and maybe others, what makes sense to you does not apply to some people, and in this case, especially the older or handicapped population. As far as exploiting workers, it’s a universal problem, you wouldn’t think the Walmarts or Targets don’t do it? I do farm shares and buy local products regularly, but also generic grocery in supermarkets, the local farm’s products are just too expensive for me to solely rely on.
After hearing you mention this a few times last year, I did not renew back in January. I had so many of my followers saying they could NEVER cancel their membership bc they get such value from it. I was like well we shall see if we really need it. Here we are halfway through March and still do not need it.
i cancelled when it got to 16.53 a month if you include taxes. The only reason I was still keeping it was for the shipping. I have saved hundreds of dollars since I cancelled amazon because as this video mentioned I really have to think about my purchases and it led me to the epiphany that I was buying a lot of things I either didn't need or I could get some where else for cheaper with slightly more effort.
Anything to get away from rude store employees or being forced to hear profanity while checking out or listening to undisciplined kids scream. Love Amazon.
There are no 'good' options out there for the most part if you use Amazon for business like I do. If a customer needs a part for instance, I can hop on Amazon and have the part delivered 'same day' or 'next day' in many cases. All of the brick and mortar part suppliers in my region are gone. Even if I find the part cheaper at another company the customer generally doesn't want to wait for standard shipping of five to seven days on many sites and any returns are generally arduous. I make more orders on Amazon yearly than there are days in the year, because I will order many times a day sometimes for customers and yes many of those transactions are under the free shipping limit. An example I bought an XLR cable for ten dollars including shipping, which ironically arrived right as I started watching your video. A local music store wanted fifty-dollars for the same XLR cable, which is insane even if I wanted to support their local business. I do appreciate your video for the average home consumer though.
Why people want to throw away money by paying membership? FREE shipping is not free, either the buyer or seller is paying shipping. Cost already included in the cost of the item or added in at checkout.
You're young and naive. You're one of the woman survivors in a Titanic lifeboat complaining about the lifeboat. The Titanic is brick and mortar retail. The other lifeboats are other online retail companies. All of them are a little creaky and leaky. But they are performing a function people want. Choose the service that suits your needs. Amazon Prime at half price for low income buyers is a good deal for all you get.
It is a GREAT value for me. I live a rural life. It's over an hour drive to the closest movie theater. ONE of the wonderful items I buy from Amazon is socks with animal faces and ears (which for some reason is 'wrong' according to you tho they bring me pleasure). When I watch your videos I get the feeling you lead a pretty joyless life, other than a fancy coffee-maker, of course. Maybe a video on 'things that make me happy' maybe to balance out all the negativity? I love your take that Amazon is the reason people have NO self-control, therefore it's okay to take no responsibility. "It's Amazon's fault I bot that." Lol - You need to take that viewpoint and run for political office! Seriously, you'd do awesome in today's world.
I'm not sure where you're shopping but almost everything sold on Amazon is cheaper and even if it's a couple cents more expensive I live in a rural area where it's 30 minutes to get to town, I drive a SUV so for me to spend 20-30 bucks every time I need to buy something is absolutely pointless, this video only applies to people that live in town, I absolutely love Amazon and use it to buy everything except for perishables because I live to far so I just go into town once a month and stock up at Sam's club.
Nicole, you hit another home run. I agree with everything you said about Amazon & Bozos. I have prime but I use it mostly because I no longer have to drive to a dozen local stores to see if they have what I’m looking for. If I call the stores I’m always faced with ultra long telephone menus and when I finally get to talk to a human they don’t almost never can help me. Keep the wonderful videos coming! I always love watching them and your no-nonsense delivery. It’s so refreshing to hear your honest descriptions of things. As a fellow Canadian (but currently trapped in the bowels of Texas) it makes me long to return to Canada and my roots. But as you highlighted in another video houses are too overpriced for me to want to buy there. By the way, my dad served in the Canadian army. He went to Canada to join the army in 1939 to fight the NAZIs. He served over 7 years in the Canadian army so he was there for the duration of the war. My uncle was in the Canadian navy and my grandad was in the English army during WWI. I loved hearing about their service. All the best Nicole and keep up the fantastic work!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Having to DISAGREE. Been with Amazon Prime for 10+ years. Being a senior I pay $6.99 monthly for free shipping and movies. What I like when I do buy is SELECTION AND CONVENIENCE. Do you need a shirt in powder blue, size 3X (they have it) I need my monthly grocery staples (they have it) ETC. All at prices that are the same if not cheaper than local stores. Most of the orders arrive in 24 hours. Also i use the Amazon credit card and get 5%-6% back on every purchase. (make sure you pay it off monthly) Returns ? print out a shipping label, go down to my local UPS store and DROP it off. It's a win-win for me.
Me too. Given the amount I spend per year anyway, the 2%+ extra I get on my Chase Amazon card in points more than covers the yearly fee for prime. And they're great with returns.
I have been a Prime member since it was launched. It has been at least 6 months since I have received a package in 2 days. Usually more like a week. I checked my membership status to make sure that it was still active and it was. I too am planning on cancelling my Prime service. Amazon is definitely not valueable to me like it used to be.
What I think about Amazon Prime is a nightmare 😅😅 This was a brilliant video. I fingercross 🤞🏻 for you to pass 50k subscribers. I hate influencers because most of them do not provide any value to society but low or no quality content. I am glad you are different. 😊
Thank you for posting this. I have been disappointed by Amazon's garbage merchandise and/or failure to deliver on time many times. I had been thinking about canceling my Amazon Prime for two years, but kept failing to cancel. Today, after watching this, I finally went ahead and canceled my Amazon Prime, so my Prime membership will continue until the next expiration date, but will not renew again.
They absolutely are. The stuff they have listed on there now are absolutely no-name fictitious brands of rock-bottom quality, choking out the good/real stuff. It’s so sad to look for a camera on there these days, or a stereo. You’ll see a couple discontinued things from legitimate brands, and a bunch of junk from drop shippers that only exist to look decent in the product photo.
The best part to cancelling subscriptions is also cancelling the internet bill. The internet bill is the root of all evil... it's a gateway drug to subscriptions.
I am not sure, the returned items go to a landfill. I recently ordered Revlon paraffin bath, and received cracked bath with melted wax inside and some missing parts. It came from Amazon as a new item. Of course, they returned my money, when I called. And I was the one, who had to send it to a landfill
In my area we have a ton of Amazon return stores - in most cases they have all the random stuff in giant bins for a set price that changes throughout the week, starting at 10 bucks and then if you go on 99 cent day it's literally just broken plastic and boxes of food with 2 weeks left before it expires. Pretty gross but preferable to landfills.
Love Prime! I price shop all the time. By the time you add shipping. I have not found cheaper often. The Amazon shipping is rock solid. The return policy is awesome. I don’t have time to drive around looking for stuff. My truck gets 10 miles to the gallon. So driving to find something it not cheap. Plus local stores don’t have the same selection. Locally I buy food, large items like building materials, Cars and trucks liquor and beer, get my hair cut, go to the gym and support local attractions, and restaurants. Everything else Amazon. Have you ever ordered on line directly from a vendor. Most of the time you’re waiting weeks. I once waited months. I gave up trying . Love the video. It is not correct in every situation. You did not say that it was. For me Amazon has earned my business. I fact I bought stock in the company. So I am now supporting myself.
Pam here….so EMBARASSINGLY forth my hubby and I had PRIME….which is now 139US/yr. Sheesh!! Canceled ONE. And he found where we can MURGE us to one. We do watch movies from PRIME and he has a lot of business purchases for clients that he wanted to keep his account for. Put a tickler reminder on his renewal time and will reassess the value and probably cancel his as well. Thx for being a POSITIVE influencer!! Not a dirty word!! Hehee
I find my Amazon prime worth the cost. I am living about 30 minutes from shops and find it very convenient for house maintenance items. Like furnace filters and refrigerator filters and items as such. Mere convince for me that I am willing to pay a little more for. Love you and your videos
Great video very valid points. You could have included the free trial aspect that people forget to cancel as well. I just canceled my free trial on Friday. I did buy a few extra items that were not on my needs list but have been on my radar for a while but totally agree its way too easy to buy on there.
The only time I use Amazon is when I absolutely can't find it locally and I absolutely have to have it. I've only ever had to use it a handful of times,
Hi Nicole, I am a Prime membership subscriber.
@@KentPetersonmoneyI love the credit card rewards system. I have that too so I get points for everything.. Bezos gottts me. They got me good 🤦🏾♀️
I think you are wasting your time in working 60 hours/week. This is 10 - 20 hours too much.
Just cancelled mine. Thanks for the eye opening report.
🙌🏼
I just did too! Been meaning to cancel since ads were introduced to the streaming service but just hadn’t gotten around to it.
Look in her description. She's an Amazon affiliate.
@@WilliamTheHeretic I haven't watched the video yet but maybe she sees Amazon prime as the problem, and not necessarily amazon itself?
Nicole, I love the "in your face" truthfulness. Thank you for sharing.
I was paying 14.99 per month plus 2.99 for no ads streaming. I just went and canceled. Thank you. I needed to hear this today.
I only pay 6.99 for Prime

@@smileychess😂
I don't use Amazon Prime and use regular Amazon maybe twice a year at the most.

Yea, I would prefer to buy it things in store, but places stopped carrying 4k dvds, video games, pc parts, clothing, & shoes.
I just got Mint last week. It works great!
That's funny.
BYE!
I do have Amazon prime and your making some pretty good points. Something to consider. Thanks Nicole for another great video.
WOW. What a MASSIVE dopamine hit. I think I'm addicted to rational thinking now.😃 No more toasted tortilla blankets for me! 😂👍
I roll myself up like a joint with my blanket with a big industrial fan blowing cold air. Best sleep ever.
Thank you
What brand of phone do you own? There’s the thing no one wants to leave their home, time is too precious. If I can do my shopping while on break at work and have it at my door step that day or the next saves me time I can spend doing something I like.
@@grd1184I'm with KASH. My wife just dumps the boxes in the garage and expects me to make them disappear in the recycling bin. Unfortunately that means actually cutting them down to fit in it. I'm just used as a hump in that process. FU amazon.
Get a job where you don't have to shop from work... eek. Princess...
Uhuh...I do not have a car. Talking about waste.
Just cancel now and it will stay active until the renewal date. Then you can resubscribe next year if you decide you still need it.
I never use Amazon. I really love the background music you use in your videos enjoy rest of your weekend Nicole!
Everybody does that on black Friday too.
Exactly. It's like Black Friday...the deals are not really deals at all!

Yea, choosing to be notified that your subscription is about to renew is an option, and it is off by default. That doesn't smell scammy at all /s.
@@joeb4294
I have always been notified when my renewal comes up.
@@bonriver9420 I was not notified in previous years. Are you outside the US? Maybe you live somewhere that has consumer protections?

I have a friend who goes on about injustice. He shops Amazon all the time. Like many people, he just doesn't get it.
malls and downtowns are dying from crime
@juliusstriker4465 No, not all of them. I live in a very rural area where there is virtually zero crime, and the malls and shopping centers are still struggling. Every time I look at my window I see an Amazon Prime delivery truck going down the road.
@@BathtubMary Scary isn’t it.
Love the videos. Thanks again.
Thanks for watching!
That is me too. No wasted gas or time looking
There is nothing needed next day, unless there's a flood or a sick liver. As it is, they no longer abide by it.
Imagine if she accidentally opened it up and it turned out to be a personal back massager you had ordered.
Well that would have been just too funny. Actually, It was Manila folders and a new Roku box thing. I buy my “back massagers” in person locally to test them out first. 🤪
Nicole, why oh why are the smart channels having less subscribers. Keep up the great work 👍
Needed this!
I agree with you however as a handicapped person it makes my life so much easier. Love your content Nicole.
I have chronic illness, so I understand, but I do not have Prime. I wait until I have $35 worth in my cart, before I order.
A strong America needs local mom and pop brick and mortar businesses!
If it works for you, then great. However, the majority of the things others buy are knickknacks that they don't need or wanted in the first place.
hard to believe for many people ... one of the biggest items ordered are cat litter and cases of bottled water (because they are too heavy for so many people) @@lunayen
How would you know this?
enjoy making $100+ an hour while you can. amazon is another giant who has been shutting down companies in the US left and right by making cheap chinese junk available to the masses. even tech giants will soon just switch over to AI and have computers work for free. make sure you are putting money into savings, you will need it!
Such a great video, Nicole!
I canceled Amazon years ago and never shop or any of the companies they own anymore for all of these reasons. Thanks for spreading awareness.
I so want Mint Mobile but I'm in Canada! Thanks for the great videos Nicole.
That makes two of us
I need it here in Australia too.
You are top-notch informative and hilarious!
Wow. This gave me a lot to think about. Just discovered this channel amd subscribed. I find these videos very useful.
When I put items in my Amazon cart, as well as putting items on my wish list, the prices go up the next day!
I understand where you are coming from. I know an older couple on the coast. They say Amazon has wiped out most mom and pop brick and mortar stores.
Love the channel!! Can't get enough of your content! Especially the Simpsons clips, etc.
You’re very good at making sense.
Thank you 😂
I don’t subscribe to Amazon Prime for the very reasons you mentioned. I put my stuff in the cart and order after I give it a good think and it totals enough for free shipping!👍🇺🇸🙋♀️
Nicole, you're the best! I love how you talk about Bezos. He's such a cartoon villain.
Keep up the good work, influencer! 😉☺
And his girlfriend 😂 could you get more Saturday morning with these two?
❤. I like the points. Another way to overspend. 😳 Basically, we're spending money we should be saving.
After hearing you mention this a few times last year, I did not renew back in January. I had so many of my followers saying they could NEVER cancel their membership bc they get such value from it. I was like well we shall see if we really need it. Here we are halfway through March and still do not need it.
Love your videos!😊
i cancelled when it got to 16.53 a month if you include taxes.
I’ve been thinking of canceling it, you just “influenced” me to do it. I had no idea about the landfill.
Have you done a video on buying gold? I don’t think you have, but I’ve only been following you for a few months.
I know this will go unnoticed, but it is this content that makes me choose you as an honest(wants good shit)person. I look forward to seeing more.
Totally True!
What I think about Amazon Prime is a nightmare 😅😅
This was a brilliant video. I fingercross 🤞🏻 for you to pass 50k subscribers.
I hate influencers because most of them do not provide any value to society but low or no quality content. I am glad you are different. 😊
Learning of the whole drop shipping thing and return process has completely changed the way I look at Amazon.
You are a breath of fresh air.
Amazon is turning into Temu
They absolutely are. The stuff they have listed on there now are absolutely no-name fictitious brands of rock-bottom quality, choking out the good/real stuff. It’s so sad to look for a camera on there these days, or a stereo. You’ll see a couple discontinued things from legitimate brands, and a bunch of junk from drop shippers that only exist to look decent in the product photo.
Amazon was always temu.
I cancelled 2 weeks ago and I haven’t missed anything. Now I’m just saving money! Thanks for your content!
Hilarious and awesome video! When I think of Amazon, I think Evil Empire.
it sound a bit too much like amazon 'crime'... that amazon prime... or is it just 'a steal'?
Pam here….so EMBARASSINGLY forth my hubby and I had PRIME….which is now 139US/yr. Sheesh!! Canceled ONE. And he found where we can MURGE us to one. We do watch movies from PRIME and he has a lot of business purchases for clients that he wanted to keep his account for. Put a tickler reminder on his renewal time and will reassess the value and probably cancel his as well. Thx for being a POSITIVE influencer!! Not a dirty word!! Hehee
I dislike to go out shopping. Amazon is wonderful.
This is an excellent video. You have me thinking. Thank you. I’ve had prime for YEARS.
Consumerism is fun and gives me dopamine hits. I love Amazon.
I've only ever had to use it a handful of times,
If you use Amazon responsibly, it can save you a lot of time and money. If you use it mindlessly, yeah, you'll waste a bunch of money.
