There will never be another genre like 80s rock. My brother took me to see my first concert in 1988 to see motley Crue on the girls girls girls tour in Roanoke Virginia. I was only 15 years old at the time. What an experience that was. Whitesnake is still one of my all-time favorites
Oh, my friend! You and I are brothers if you like Whitesnake! I have seen them three times, and love their entire catalogue. I saw the Crüe once when Alice Cooper opened.
@@PerkinsPipes I grew up at the skating rink and was on the speed skating team for 8 years. Our team theme song was in The still of the night. And then skating during couples skate to the song is this love. Lol
@@gohoosgo75 Nothing finer! "Still of the Night" is one of my all time favorites, and I'm sure I played "Is This Love" for the girl who would become my wife.
The most recent time I saw Stryper was in Dallas with my 3 kids!! Even in the 80s I knew they were good but it now helps when others validate their talent - even Lady Gaga. I also appreciate that they’ve never mellowed on their message. As a recent pipe smoker thank you for your Stryper rant!! 😊
I saw STRYPER quite a few years back at the inside out soul festival. I didnt know any of the bands there, but I knew STRYPER! Lol! I remember the video for " Free" from when I was a little kid. I have seen a lot of the duo guitar greats, Hanneman- King, Tipton- Downing, Hetfield- Hammett, and I can say that Oz Fox and Michael Sweet absolutely hold thier own in a live show. I was 2 feet from the stage ankle deep in hay at the bottom of a ski hill equiped with a tow rope. It was RAD. Well over a decade ago and I recall it with fondness. ROCKIN FOR THE ONE WHO IS THE ROCK!!
Thanks! They have been putting out INCREDIBLE music through the 2000s, which some say is even better than their work in the '80s. Check out their latest album, When We Were Kings, and take a look at their live show from just a couple of weeks ago: th-cam.com/video/x6GSuh8OH2A/w-d-xo.htmlsi=XneKBrzorOja3UVr.
Ashamedly...I have never listened to Stryper...🤷♂️. I have heard of them, but never got around to listening to any of their music (that I can remember). That said, i love it when someone is as "crazy" about a band/subject, as you are, because that enthusiasm seems to spark new interests where there may not have been before. So...I am going to go right over to TH-cam and check out some Stryper videos. I do love all the 80's hair metal bands though! Thanks for the enthusiasm and I'll let you know what i think...!
Oooh! I can't wait to hear your thoughts. For '80s hits, check out "To Hell With the Devil," "Honestly," "Calling On You," and 'In God We Trust." Check the links in my video here for videos from their most recent album, and take a look at their amazing concert from just two weeks ago here: th-cam.com/video/x6GSuh8OH2A/w-d-xo.htmlsi=XneKBrzorOja3UVr.
Okay...i just listened to the first song off of their new album...and yes, I do remember listening to them - and, to be honest, I remember why I never caught on... First, I LOVE their music and their sound...they ROCK! They have a sound which IS the essence of the 80's and I love it! But, that being said, I can't get myself to like the sound of the lead vocals. I think if you grew up with them, it might be different but, for me, it just isn't something I can really get in to. Now, if I was watching them, I could probably listen a lot longer, because I can watch almost any band and enjoy it much more in person. To me, listening to Stryper is similar to listening to Iton Maiden. The sound and hard hitting music is there but the lead vocals don't seem to match - at least what you think in your mind they sound be. I may listen to some more songs from their new album and see if I can appreciate them more but, for me, it's probably just a passing thing...which is a shame because I was really digging that see through blue vinyl album you were showing off. Thanks again for the wonderful discussion, enthusiasm, and new discoveries that you always offer! Until next time!
Oh, yes! I have it! I had the limited release on CD before the final version came out as well and was blessed to interview Rex Carroll and later the whole band for a podcast I used to do. That new album is absolutely fantastic and SO in the vein of classic British blues rock like Whitesnake. Glad to meet another fan!
Sure ,there ok i guess , far from amazing... in kmow way in any category with Judas Priest . Who are also a christian band, but then so is Black Sabath or any band that believes in Jesus.
I saw Priest and Sabbath and Stryper. All of them were killer live bands. STRYPER caught me off guard, I had no idea they were as good a guitar duo as they turned out to be. Since seeing them live I found an old VHS tape of a live concert, LIVE IN JAPAN, definately worth checking out.
Thanks for the tour, my friend. The 70s and 80s were definitely the times of great rock.

Mr Perkins, I am so excited when I see your episodes pop up. I never know what to expect but I am never disappointed.

Love it! And you have certainly named some great guitar duos there! Thanks for sharing that memory!
Nice paintjob on the pipe! You're giving me ideas...
I haven't heard Stryper since the early 80s, I didn't even know they were still around!
