    What a beautiful way to display those precious memories we don't want ruined! I'm thinking I want to use this idea to make a quilt out of each of my two girls' art work, and gifting it to each of them for next Xmas (I have some time) 🤣. I'm also thinking about transferring some of them onto canvas and framing them to make an art gallery in my hallways. So many ideas you've given me! I'm heading to my precious artwork archives and getting started right away. Thank you for sharing! 🙏❤️

    • @Rebecca-zw4pm
      @Rebecca-zw4pm 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@willow2333 thank you. I thought the same about the hand towel. The quilts are going to take me a while, but I went to the store today to get the transfer paper and a couple of large canvases. I picked out a few art pieces and transferred them onto the canvases. They turned out so much better than I imagined. 😍😍 I'm making the frames tomorrow. I figured I would start with a couple of large ones and go about making my gallery in our upstairs hallway from there. My girls are both adults now, so having my precious artwork there, done in a way that compliments my decor is perfect for me. I can see myself going overboard with this project, though. 😂😂

    • @JANEEDISTURBED
      @JANEEDISTURBED 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was literally JUST a thinking the same exact thing, regarding quilting. I want to transfer not just artwork, but family photos on them. Working on a family tree quilt, and wanna have all of our families memorabilia and photos on it. Also need to find out if once transferred, if these are machine washable. I'm assuming so. Because after she lifted the paper on the fish towel, it looked like what you'd see on T-Shirts. I know those are best washed after reversing the clothing inside out. But this would be good to know.

    • @Rebecca-zw4pm
      @Rebecca-zw4pm 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JANEEDISTURBED that's a great idea with the family photos. It sounds very lovely. I got the Avery brand washable transfer paper for the canvas project. The lady at the store said it washes very well on t-shirts, so it should work very well on a quilt since it gets washed less often than a t-shirt.

    I use water slides on tumblers. It’s doesn’t say this in the video, but be sure to seal the water slide with at least three coats of clear sealant to make image durable. When applying water slide to cup, it should be left of the backing paper, placed on the cup, and then slowly slide the paper backing from behind. Also, the cup should be wet, and air bubbles can be removed with a silicone flat brush used in tumbler making.

I bought it two or three years ago, but I can’t imagine it’s gone up too much in price. It works like a dream and has all of the different size and shape bits. Nice to see you showing what can be done with a cheap cutting board bear in mind you might want to use the reverse for cutting as the writing won’t last five minutes cutting on it. Here's a tip: they are called "water slide decals" because you are supposed to bring the decal on the backing to the object, and sliiide it onto your object, not try to pick up the decal film out of the water, you can easily tear them and distort them.
    If you pick up the backing AND decal out of the water you can position it where you want it and slide the backing out from under it

    I love the mug with the art on it! It would be neat to get a bunch of matching plain mugs and do an entire set with your child’s art. Of course then it would be much more upsetting if one broke! Maybe a good idea would be to make doubles of each just in case. Lol.
    I’ve also seen people frame their child’s art really nicely with beautiful frames and patterned matting behind the art, Then make a gallery wall with that and favourite photos and anything that’s a personal memory, like some field flowers your child picked for you while on a nature walk, flatten and dry them in a book then get two matching frames and secure the flat, dry flowers between the two pieces of glass in one frame. It’s a beautiful look! And a great way to save something special. Or if your child has a favourite cartoon character or story or game, print off a neat screen shot of it you can find online and frame that. Actually my daughter would have an extremely hard time letting go of old toys, every single craft she’d make, clothes she’d grow out of, old bicycles, plastic toddler dishes, every single stuffed animal (she still has the MOST special ones, I’m not heartless, but they sure add up and take up so much space as most parents know.) literally hundreds of rocks she’d collect from walks along the lake (actually those could be used for a rock garden or in potted plants), she’d get personally attached to these things. So because I didn’t want to end up on an episode of hoarders, or make her feel like I didn’t care, or have her cry about it for the entire day or longer (i’m not even exaggerating)......So I had the idea that we could donate the items for another little kid to enjoy but keep the memory of the object by taking a photo, which totally worked to help her let go! (and tbh she’d usually forget all about it after she took the photos anyway). I think she was mainly bothered by the feeling of things she cared about not being appreciated, so just the acknowledgment of her feelings, that the items were worthwhile and the memories important to her (to give it to another child and then the token photo farewell), was what helped her emotionally cope with letting go. But it would have been neat to also make a collage or something of those photos or send them out and have them made into one of those books of photo memories! Something small she could keep forever if she wanted, to look through and remember the things she enjoyed as a child. I wish I still had all of those photos, it would have been a great gift, to give to her, now as an adult, one of those photo “coffee table” books, as well as add in some favourite photos of childhood trips to the cottage, or the nature walks etc. I know she’d absolutely cherish it! And now with a grown up perspective, she’d also appreciate that it wouldn’t take up nearly as much space as if she’d literally kept everything! I really hope someone with a young child reads this and can help their child who has trouble letting things go and then will one day surprise them with a beautiful photo book of all of their child’s favourite memories of special childhood toys, crafts, adventures, friends (that’s another huge one I forgot to mention! Its so hard on kids when a friend moves away...), and of course pets are a huge one as well! Just imagine how cool that would be for them to eventually share those memories with their children and then do the same for their children, and have generations of beautiful coffee table photo books full of special memories for the family to share together.

    Very informative. I love your ideas! I need a cheap idea on how to transfer a copier image to a piece of silver sheet metal, so I can cut it out.

      I haven’t seen this. Granted, since DT went up to $1.25, I really haven’t been in there but I’ll look.

      Check a couple different stores, if you have that option. Some of our stores sell out more quickly than others. I bought a couple at our DT 2 years ago, using one for veggies, the other for fruits when I'm not cutting enough to need my large,heavy wooden boards. They're thin, but well-made. Can serve sliced onion and sliced tomatoes for sandwiches right on the boards. I use perm marker to denote in the corner whether the board is for fruits or veggies.

    An interesting video for these products. I might have titled it ’how to capture an image on a DT cutting board’ it was a little misleading.
