      Gordon Zhu When they say "friend" does that mean there's a good chance they are dating?

    • @RichardYin

      Gordon Zhu I think 您 instead of 你 would'be been better.

    • @gory224
      @gory224 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the person. From what I know we said friend when we don't want to spill the beans quite yet. This applies especially when in front of either your parents or your significant other's.

    5:36 Chinese, the phrase for “sharing a pear” is 分梨(fēn lí). It is a homophone of 分离(fēn lí) which means “to separate”.

    unfortunately, bad gifts are bad gifts regardless of language or culture. most of these come off as cheap (yes, it is hard to come up with gifts if your not that close or familiar with that side of the family but ...)

    • @rawrs2849
      @rawrs2849 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      why? I'd appreciate them though. I wouldn't need to buy a new clock for my living room. And yay for free slippers to keep my feet warm. I don't think spending more money on a gift will make it a better gift. I'd rather get something I can use than something expensive that has little use... Just appreciate we're getting any gift at all. It's the thought that counts. Not everyone's good at getting gifts (close friends/family or not) no matter how much time and effort they put into it :(

    • @chloechen7436
      @chloechen7436 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      rawrs the word 'giving a clock' in Chinese sounds exactly the same with another word 'bury the dead body'. So clock is an ominous gift.

    • @chloechen7436
      @chloechen7436 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      rawrs umbrella means break up with your boyfriend. Green hat means your girl is cheating on you. Nice gifts If you wanna end your friendship...

    • @chloechen7436
      @chloechen7436 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      rawrs lol. That's right. Actually I don't think young people care these so much. I'd be happy getting slippers and umbrella.

    i notice too, if i give a gift, they dont want it, but if i get a gift from them if i refuse, is rude. like getting a free gift, from them, i say 'why you give to me' 'no worries, we like you, you part of our family''. being ''friend of the family'' like a uncle or nephew.

    pear fruit in chinese read sound similar to shi which is awesome similar to the word die... and in chinese new years... everyone is really strich on that day... not to talk bad word, bad thing, broke thing , clean hair or clean the house(just one day)... u should try to ask your wife on what u buying first or just play simple for a while to know what happen.
    althought I think this isnt real, honestly people gonna call me idiot to write this sentences out.
    but yeah, u should never bring everything that pronounce similar to bad thing or something u feel wrong in chinese new years, it's the most strich day of the year as they believe it will effect your faith for entire years.
