Total Warhammer of course, but I've been working through the novels too. Read all of the Vampire Genevieve and now I'm halfway through Gotrek and Felix
Lore and the Total War games. I'm more of a 40k guy, but almost entirely lore, though I do collect and paint small forces, I have never played a table top game my life even warhammer! . I have a small force of Blood Angels, Orks and Soritas and was really practising my painting before finishing my BA force and buying Custodes and a Sisters of Silence forces until the femstodes ruining my passion for it all. I still deeply love it but I'm not giving GW anymore money. Continual price hikes, removed ranges, commercialism, corporatism, and now the politicalisation, lore, and fan attacks. Fuck them!
Eh in my personal opinion lotr is the best fantasy setting but warhammer fantasy is almost tied with it and I've just started getting into it so that may change when I delve deeper
Same, I was never that interested in Warhammer as a kid most of my exposure was to 40K. It was only with the comming of Total Warhammer that I saw how great and silly fantasy is
Right? Imagine what GW managers felt when Total War and Vermintide brought an influx of thousands of new fans to Warhammer Fantasy, but they already had destroyed the whole setting and were trying to sell those silly Sigmarines 😂
Fantasy was my favorite tabletop game and when it ended with End Times I was kind lost and haven’t been part of a community like it since. No tournaments or clubs. I kept a good chunk of my Orcs And Goblins sitting in storage. Took them out this winter and have put together a sizable army. (Sold my painted Empire and Dark Elves years ago.) It was just my Orcs have always had a soft spot in my heart and I couldn’t let them go even though they weren’t that good in 8th. Now my Black Orcs have gathered together the weaker ones and are ready to bring WAAAGH! to the Old World! I’m also ready to sell off my other games to get either a new army or set up the perfect gaming table I’ve always dreamed of. Either way I have the game I’ve always loved back from the dead thanks to the Necromantic Gods at GW. Honestly I haven’t gamed since the pandemic and have almost given up on the hobby. It took the Old World to bring me back. Happy Gaming ya gits! WAAAGH!
For me, although it has some flaws, Storm of Chaos is still more the canon for me, every main character still acts according to motives and characteristics built for decades, no sudden Messiah Malekith, no sudden real Sigmar and Elven Gods, gods should be belief forged into image by Chaos, even Sigmar the God and Elven, Dwarven or Ogre pantheons. That’s the pinnicle of the setting, mortals fighting Chaos but still use Winds of Magic and worship Gods made out of Chaos itself to make it worse. And most of all, no delete of real life cultural inspiration which will make the setting familiar and alien at the same time, that’s the attraction for me. There are still so many futures can be told, Skaven invasion, other three sons of Great Kurgan, conflicts among the surviving Empire, Ulthuan and Dwarf Holds, or exploring of Kuresh, Cathay, Ind, Nippon and even the Monkey King. I will continue to enjoy the setting through Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4th edition, the world of Warhammer still lives on in my heart.
I love Warhammer Fantasy as a setting. I grew up reading Gotrek and Felix novels, but am only now just getting into the table top hobby proper with the groundswell created by The Old World. One of the most impressive things to me is how many players keep the older editions alive within their clubs and firend groups, really shows a strong sense of vitality within the hobby.

The books are also better written than I was expecting.
