After owning both of these knives for a decent amount of time, I have to go with the Baklash as the overwhelming winner...using your discount code at White Mountain Knives makes the price difference negligible...both great entry level knives! A great time to be a knife nut for sure...they just keep giving us better quality at a lower price.

Tough call there. Like you, I choose the 801 when I want a knife to disappear in my pocket, and to have something that looks classy on a budget. But the fuller handle, better traction, and warmth of the G-10 handle on the Baklash is irresistible too, which is part of why I carry the Ruike Hussar as much as I do. And I agree about the 9Cr18MoV - it's really good budget steel. I have a few other knives made of the stuff, and it has really surprised and impressed with its edge retention and ease of sharpening. I see a Civivi or two in my future.

That was a tough comparison for sure. I think the Ruike actually does have a cool Spartan thing going on, but yeah for just a little more money you get the comfortable contoured G-10 and extra touches on the blade design.
However I have a Bestech Thorn (my go to EDC) that uses the Sandvick steel and it is wonderful. Gets really sharp and you only have to touch it up to keep it that way. I actually think that knife is a better comparison to the Backlash and mine was on sale for $34. I had to jump on it and the action is sweet and it is ergos are wonderful. The only ding is the pocket clip, but I tend not to use them so I don’t factor that. I do like the Bestechs now.

SD, you took away one of the appealing aesthetics of the Ruike knife…it’s blue highlights! The blue gave it its individualism . You turned it into a boring grey knife. For durability, the Ruike is a more hard use knife, the Civivi is more eye pleasing aesthetics and super smooth operation. Value, you have to give it to the Ruike… the materials alone are worth more at a cheaper price… now $29. …the steels…. Owning a number of knives with both…14c28n is a better overall steel…. Especially with cold steel knives… both steels are equal to sharpen, but the 14c28n edge retention is better. SD… regardless… it was a good comparison!…well done!

If the 801 came with a g10 non locking side, it would be a lot more tempting due to the weight loss.

So I'm going to just put this out there I don't agree with your justification on value and I think the reason you're coming to that conclusion very much stems from a standpoint of luxury. A person who has the money to throw down $100+ per knife can look at 10 bucks and be like, "Oh no biggie they're practically the same cost." a person for whom $10 might mean you skip dinner for a night would be looking at that extra $10 and be like is this really 33% better than the cheaper knife and I think to be honest that if the knives are even vaguely similar in performance the one that is two thirds the cost has to take the value bracket no question.

@takez L Don't be intentionally dense even literal slaves had downtime much less the working poor. And unlike the $300+ bits of pocket jewelry all too often gushed over by knife nuts knives in this price range are very often used as tools, sometimes in order to make doing one's job easier, sometimes in order to help keep oneself safe. And anyone who lives paycheck to paycheck is a person who needs to evaluate where an extra $10 goes because that is literally equivalent to the cost of a meal it's not always going to stop you from eating but it might mean you eat ramen out the packet instead of something decent for a day. Do that once and it's no big deal sure but make a habit of it and you're going to get sick.

What idiot skips dinner to buy a knife? Also why are you mentioning luxury on a 30-50$ knife? When buying a knife in this price range your opinion is just different than his. He can justify his decisions however he wants to.

There has never been a better time to get into the knife world. There are so many knives at the $30-$40 price range now, it's hard to choose, and manufacturers are pushing for more and more value at the price range.

This was a tough call. I appreciate the struggle as I, too, have been torn as to which one I will buy. At the end of the day I will likely get both (or perhaps the Practic?). I am constantly searching for the budget knife that will nudge a non-knife person up in value. Quality construction is really important for this as they will likely just live with what they buy.

I have to agree with Ashkan, a 31% difference is significant no matter how you stack it. I actually prefer 14C28N to VG-10 by a slight margin. I just counted and I have 9 knives on the table that I'm "playing with" and the Backlash isn't among them..the Ruike801 is. I give the Backlash only 2 points, weight and aesthetics. Is that enough to justify the price difference? I'm thinking not. That also doesn't factor in the cheaper G-10 vs. steel.

Think you'd be in the minority on that one. It really doesn't do anything better than the Baklash, there's a solid reason the Baklash is often referred to as a budget gem by most knife youtubers. Nether is winning any high tier knife awards but among them... I don't see many if any reasons to go with the ruike.

Ever since I almost hacked off my finger (severed artery and nerve), I have shied away from the slippery stainless and Ti folders. I really want to check out the Ruike, but I'm concerned about fumbling it. Is there any texture on the Ruike at all?

No texture. Feels like a stainless steel butter knife.
Knife is good and sharp, but detent is soft so thumb pecker can easily open up the blade when stored tip up in a pocket. Wear it in your hip pocket with blade hugging the pocket seam to ensure that the blade is closed.

... One of the most knowledgeable and famous knife youtubers (Nick Shabazz) disagrees. The Ruike looks and feels like something I'd expect from Wish, the Civivi asides from the steel which is mediocre in both feels like a knife 2-3X its cost.
There's a reason civivi has blown up among budget brands and ruike tends to remain a lesser known entity.

@@mackhomie6 agreed... I’m kicking myself for buying a Kershaw Cryo from Walmart 3 days ago. But I live in Buffalo, NY and for some reason Amazon won’t ship flipper knives even though it’s legal to carry now in NYC and all of New York State for a couple years now. They got rid of that stupid gravity knife law as long as the blade is under 4” which is reasonable. I guess I’ll have to go eBay instead.
