Jared that's it... I'm unsubbing because the spelling error.. you and Kara's great, happy and upbeat personalities was vastly over shined by that spelling error. Sorry my friend but you lost me forever as a sub. You guys are doing excellent work and enjoyable videos. Hey Jared, my name is Billy. I discovered your channel about a month ago and have been pouring through your videos ever since your depth of knowledge and understanding of knives and Different steel types is wonderful to behold. Thank you for sharing these videos with us . I hope you had a good Christmas . Never forget the reason for the season 💪💪
Nice one! And finally someone starts realizing that a knife is primarily for cutting, not prying concrete bricks out of walls, and makes geometries according to this! Getting bored to have to grab a victorinox when I have to cut something else than paper, this one in a relatively dull condition will slice better than any sharp average modern pocket knife. Great job with the review, you really transferred the enthusiasm about this nice knife
I like how the thumb-studs don’t interfere with any downward slicing. On a short ass blade no less.. Civivi killed it on this design, well thought out for sure.
Yes, I wish that too. Not sure why so many models are now starting to feature smooth aluminum handles. Fashionable? If they were grippy like the add on aluminum scales available for the Hogue Deka, that would be great. I think an inlay would just increase the price. I won't buy this at this price and even less so if it is more expensive. On a decent sale, sure.
For me, smooth aluminum is alright in the summer, but terrible in the cold winter. If you leave it outside of your pocket for any amount of time, it's like holding an ice cube.
Agree...its beautiful, but eh G10 and Micarta textured handles are better for this reason - less slippery, less cold, easier to grip and hold in the cold.
I just commented to Stassa how attractive the green scales w/ Damascus was in pictures. Watching your review confirms it. I'd like to see it with one of those nice aftermarket clips Civivi offers. Beautiful knives from Civivi! Thanks! 🤜🤛
I got it today, the green one in Damascus. The button is a bit sticky. I don't care. I like it. It's sharing now the same space as my bugout 535-3, but it's way less expensive.
Definatly looks like a great alternative to the Elementum especially if you prefer thumbstuds. Civivi designs aren't always flashy but they make a solid working knife and the 14C28N is definatly a great steel. Thanks for the look see and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable
I am finally satisfied with my search for a full flat grind, 3-inch knife. The bottle opener is a great bonus, and I no longer need to carry my Swiss Army Knife with a bottle opener. This knife is excellent for slicing fruits, beef steak, and other food prep tasks.😊
Those scales you have on your Altus aren’t AWT, they are made by Unlocked Composites. I have the same set and they are awesome! I just wanted to point it out so the right maker gets the credit he deserves. Love the videos!
Been putting off civivi Damascus for a while also love the Elementum but this one I decided to give the Damascus a shot with. Thanks for the first impressions bud! Bang gang!
So, the Qubit is following Spyderco's blade grind paradigm, leaf shape blade, full flat grind. Nice. I may have to get myself one of the button locks. I'm kinda wishing it was a bit longer.
I appreciate the shit out of your reviews my guy, your prob one of the only knife reviewers that really breaks down the sharpening ability over time in regards to the plunge grind, a lot of knife retailers choose to overlook this and it ticks me off.
Awesome medium knife. I like it a lot. Unfortunately I currently prefer bigger knives. I'm thinking of going "old school" with a Praxis. Do you think there's a place for a Praxis in 2023?
Damnit!!! I told myself not to watch this video. I couldn't even get through the whole thing before I had to stop and order it... Thanks a lot Jared. 😆
I haven't had an issue yet and have had it a few weeks, honestly I'm not even sure it's meant to be a bottle opener or if it just had to be in order to hit the stop pin
The Elementum original blade is an elegant Spear point. The Quibit is an elegant Trianglular blade. Very much like the Skein Dubh (which was a utility knife used for everything fron skinning rabbits, cleaning trout & anything else you'd use a Pocket knife for. If you had pockets, instead of a purse.
I bought civivi elementum 2 dessert warrior few days ago. Added a little bit oil, and it is a butter smooth action knife. I also like the outline when it fold. It is a full smooth outline, not like Qubit the blade hook (I don’t know what it called)shows up. I mean when those knifes folded, elementum 2 definitely looks better in my opinion.
Qubit in Blue aluminum scales on eBay right now for $34.95. The listiing seems fishy to me due to the low price, but they do have photos of the knife in the original Civivi packaging.
Those scales on the Altus look to be to be CF scales from unlockedcomposites. I have those on a Baby Banter, Elementum, and Lander. They are simply the best.
Wow, that BTE on the qubit is pretty crazy. The Qubit and the mini Nightshade (I think 0.0135" BTE) are my top two slicey folders right now I think, although I haven't tried the Chaparral
that bottle opener type hook in the closed position kills for me. I would be constantly hooking my fingers on that when reaching into my pocket past the knife to grab other things
The elementum is the bar. Its classy elegant sophisticated yet minimal. The qubit is the little brother more its own person not the sweetest guy but just as loyal to the family.
I’m thinking of getting a Manix 2, and throwing a lynch clip and some AWT scales on it. What about that Kansept Damascus? Isn’t it like VG-10 base or something similar?
i don’t like the button on the cubit because it feels like you have to push it too far or like the button is not tall enough and it really takes away from the fidget factor.
I shot my mouth off about this being thicker in the pocket than the Button Lock Elementum ,.. I was wrong, it’s slightly thinner. I’m still not a huge fan of Civivis 14C28N edge retention but it’s respectable. I wish they would go back through some of their better designs and offer premium steel. I’d vote the first reintroduction being the 3.5 Button Lock Elementum. Meanwhile I’m looking into the Damascus on this model. Maybe I’ll give it a go?
I 😘 ve both. The original Elementum has the advantage if kicking closed. Sometimes that's exactly what I want Locks closed opens fast. Just what I want to slip in my pockes with out a clip.
Good review, don't care about the bottle opener, like the blade shape, but this doesn't have steel liners? I've had bad experience with aluminum handles in the past that didn't reinforce with a steel liner. Thanks Jerad.
@mohammadmobassir2363 my favorite is the Large Elementum 3.5" button lock, but the civivi Qubit is Also Really Really Good, I would take it over the regular button lock and liner elementum
I don’t think AWT does any civivi models or carbon fiber. Those look like Unlocked Composites scales on the Altus not AWT. They do carbon fiber scales for a bunch of civivi models (and other brands) and the carbon fiber looks just like that. They’re making me some baby banter scales right now And here’s a question for you Jerald, is the qubit better than the sokoke?
Neeves you forgot 1 special point. The handle is thinner than the elementum 2, significantly thinner. In fact it's only .01 inches thicker than the elementum 1. The entire reason I didn't want to buy a button lock elementum was because of the handle width. This knife is a real winner, ergonomically, weight, etc. I don't think it being slicey matters so much though, unless you want to impress a lady with the thinnest apple slices she's ever seen.
Well geometry does play apart in not only cutting performance but also edge retention, and it being 14c28n its the perfect blend because that's what 14c was made for
Good review. Nice blade shape and thin blade (overall and hehind the edge) however the smooth aluminum handle turns me off. I'd prefer a grippier surface.
@@sharpdad33 id say the quality is probably the best on the civivi, the Pyrite or Ekko is quite a bit heavier which does feel like quality but its just heavier, however as far as heat treatment , grind, build quality yes the civivi wins hands down, but the other 2 are still amazing
About the Spyderco Chaparral, I think the blade is as thin (or thinner, my caliper measured blade thickness at 0.07 inch) as this new civivi folder. The other advantage, personally speaking, is the grippier FRN scales on the Chaparral as well as the CTS-XHP blade steel (which would have the edge with regards to edge-holding ability, though likely not as tough nor as stainless as 14c28n on the civivi). The Civivi is easier to open/close, however the Chaparral can be opened with one hand without too much trouble and closed as well. I do like the blade shape on this civivi model so if I find a good sale, I may buy it and then can compare directly to the Chaparral. By the way...where can one buy those grippier scales you show? Thanks Jerad!
I checked Applied Weapons Technology page and cannot find those scales you show on that Altus...were they discontinued or are they made by a different company? Thanks!
Dont know why they dont do milling on those alu scales. Real Steal Metamorph G5 has perfect alu milled scales, makes a lot different. I pretty much dont carry my Kizer Original due how slippery it is.

The difference is the carry! I can drop the elementum button lock in any pocket- including office EDC... no way in hell I'm doing that with that pocket shredder- oh sorry i meant "bottle opener" 😂 great way to pass off a design flaw as a feature!
@@khaair Thanks. I still find it an ugly feature (and near useless for me) but overall the knife is very cool-looking and has other good features as a slicey blade and a tough stainless steel like 14c28n). I will wait till I see it on sale and possibly get one then. Thanks again!
@gaberoo9099 Yeah, I agree it's kind of a random feature. I'm convinced it was a design coincidence, and they just threw it in there as a "hey, we got a bottle opener on it" LOL

If Kara approves of the scales then this knife is a no brainer!😂 This is a perfect cookout knife it’s non threatening looking and a bottle opener what’s not to love! 🌭
its not at all, the damascus is just created differently, they do a good job with there damascus but its not better it just looks cool, you could say its more stainless than the d2 but it depends on what steel you are comparing it to. but your mostly getting it for the look
