    Tony Robinson and the diggers visit the perfect Oxfordshire town of Burford to investigate the location of a medieval hospital in the stunning grounds of Burford Priory, after evidence is found of even earlier archaeology. Pieces of pot discovered in the vegetable garden suggested the Priory was not only once home to a hospital but also one of the rarest of archaeological sites: a lost Anglo-Saxon settlement.

    i cant stop watching Time Team episodes. I think its so fascinating because, no matter how old the episode is, the archaeology never changes. Sure, the computer power and tech has come a long way since the the first series, but a trench is a trench and the digging is always the heart of the show for me. Love it love it love it.

      There have been several where it lasted longer than three days, but most of those were planned to be longer. And even the "normal" dig lasts MUH MUCH LONGER than 3 days. When the show stops filming, archaeologists continue with their tasks and finish what they started (they don't leave skeletal remains "half dug up"), and then is the long arduous job of recording everything, cataloging, and finally closing up the dig or turning it over to a local historical society who may continue for months or years. They don't just toss everything in the trunk and drive away come Sunday night. The Tonys and Micks and Phils have "regular" jobs and can't stay, but the student and field archaeologists will continue.

Col Ret of Dragoones ) and my wife were given the honour of leading the Burford Guard and the Carnival procession on Leveller Day . We had driven across the country to honour those prisoners at the Church who were finally executed for their forward thinking and beliefs after the events of the English Civil Wars when the franchise was denied them by the nobility and wealthier sort that still made up Parliament at that time . I just love this episode it's both fun and odd things in it a possibility of different ages & eras the ever possible hint of the Romans just a possible hint of them being there I mean clearly there was some signs of them being there or are there materials being moved there to all the way up to the Tudors wear some of the standing material of buildings were taken down not all of them clearly I find it funny the hint of all that history and mystery it's just absolutely interesting very fact that Nick was just insistent on trying this place out it was a great idea I hope he's doing well on the other side I like how they had a bunch of kids help them and Phil he's like Tony get off and me back! I got a permission slip I got a permission slip to dig here

    They should try the primary schools today and tell the children to help dig the archeology about their ancestors 😂

    I loved that episode. But I could have sworn I have seen it before. So I checked, and yes, It's a re-upload -- again! First aired on this channel on 03.02.2020. Unfortunately you have done that a couple of times now.

      I was also confused for a bit while watching, wondering whether I'd seen it already, turns out it's a re-upload indeed 👀

      I think the re-uploads are when they have secured the rights to show the episodes in the UK. If you are in the UK you only seem to be able to view episodes back to December 2020, the first being 'The Trouble with Temples'. Switching my VPN location means all episodes on the channel are available.

    44:25 - anyone else see the supposed 'maze' in the garden to the left of the Priory?

    • @ruthtuschling8362
      @ruthtuschling8362 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's not a maze, it's a copy of the Chartres labyrinth which is a symbolic representation of the pilgrimage to Jerusalem if you couldn't get there. It was made by monks and nuns of Burford Priory in around 2006, using a lawn mower. The community left Burford in 2008 and the building became a private house. The community is going strong in Worcestershire under the name of Mucknell Abbey. I was one of those who made the labyrinth.

    I wonder how many of those kids are now in Uni studying archaeology. They should be around the right age now, right?

    I don’t think that Phil would be so irresponsible as to break the law and dig where he shouldn’t.

    These kids are now in their early 20's. Wonder how many picked up archeology as a hobby or career?

    FWIW, Burford Priory is owned by Elisabeth Murdoch, daughter of Rupert Murdoch. And if Cuthred of Wessex, the Anglo-Saxon King of Wessex in the 8th century is buried at the Priory, then it's a good guess that there was an Anglo-Saxon settlement there.

    I'm confused, do we miss Phil and Tony? When I read the comments right below, it seems that both have left the Time Team.
    Didn't they choose to keep on trucking, after almost deciding to stop? With a few new team members? Phil may have left, yes, I've got a vague recalling of that choice, but Tony? Probably he'll continue to pop up, and step away from the camera as quick, with his usual enthusiasm for a long time, and even when he's in his grave, his ghost will continue to pop up, frightening the present Time Team members. Wouldn't that bring a tasty flavour to the menu? 😁

      As far as has been indicated Tony will not be back .He has plenty of other fish to fry. And Phil, bless him, is 71. But he is still active ,having celebrated 50 years in September. But to expect him to be grubbing around in a trench is a little much. He has Another project anyway - Salisbury!

    It never fails to blow my mind that you can literally put a hole in the ground anywhere in Europe and find something centuries old… but come over to the US and we don’t have history like that… I’ve heard of people finding arrows here (Pacific Northwest) but just around rivers, and not a whole lot else.
